Man I'm loving how Thor stories have evolved. When I was a kid Thor was cool but wasn't selling comics like the others. Now I wait for these videos to come out to help me from opening the comic lmao
The elder gods have been good parts of the rogues gallery for Thor and right now Thor is one of the better avengers storytelling series going on right now.
Asgardians & the other pantheons were *kind* of created by the Demiurge. The god energies that Demogorge absorbed after he ate the Elder Gods was later dispersed back to the Earth and then given form by the minds of mankind, resulting in Asgardians, Olympians, etc.
"The Wheel" is often a symbol for a tedious unrelenting cycle that just like a wheel continues moving forward, but repeating the same pattern over and over again - grinding everything beneath it into dust. So it probably is a metaphorical representation of the Elder Gods' endless battles (explicitly called out as cyclical in the story) which kept destroying the earth more and more... Then this is basically Toranos' divine domain: He is the God of the War of the Elder Gods. "Breaking the Wheel" in turn means getting rid of this cycle, stopping its merciless destructive path. So the Thors cracking the Wheel feels more like a symbolic token, saying that they (or rather the entity/concept of "Thor") have the power to end the mindless conquest of Elder Gods for good. Not necessarily in a physical way, but in a metaphorical one.
9:55 wrong again. Before Thor was introduced going back to the mythology of Thor, there was NEVER EVER ANY enchantment on Mjolnir. In myths it was Thor’s strength that made him the only person able to lift Mjolnir. And another misconception that even google will get wrong is that Odin was the chief god. Nope. Tho he was always Thor’s father, Thor was the most worshipped God during Norse times.
Alright, Al Ewing gets classical mythology. This reads like the folklore of old where the main character defeats a god, a monster, a force of nature, using trickery. And yeah. Jason Aaron had an interesting idea, but obviously the writers who grew up with Thor, namely Cates and Ewing, were like “Nah. The fire bird ain’t his mom. Gaia is his mom, and we’re actually gonna make a story where it’s important that she’s his mom.”
I would have been down with Thor’s mom to be a Phoenix force infused Gaia. Phoenix needs a host. If Gaia was the host of the Phoenix force when she gave birth to Thor, that would be cool.
Maybe during the avengers 1million days they bonded against some force and while combine had coitus with Oden. This would mean both are his mother and he still hasn't reached his true potential

thor is the only one that does not lose his power from losing the hammer, the 60 second rule is that it applies to anyone else who gains his powers from it
Thor must be like, "Ha! Yet ANOTHER reality felling foe? Tis the 11th one this century! First, the Marquise of Death and now this? Well, yet again, HAVE AT THEE FOUL BEAST!" . At this point, thor is a multiverse powerhouse. A god above gods.

10:44 wrong again. In comics it was Odin who decided who was worthy. Smfh. That was retconned into mother storm being the one who decided (Jason Aaron’s garbage) then mother storm was defeated. Now Thor being the all father decides. One of the things marvel is doing is doing away with the foolishness that Jason, Aaron did to the character
Small correction: Mjölnir having an enchantment that grants it's abilities to specific people is from Marvel. In the original mythology it was just really heavy, which is why Thrym was able to steal it.
@@callmestorm23the enchantment isn’t gone. Ours back to goes out originally was in marvel comics back in Journey into mystery. This channel has gotten its store content wrong from the day. The current story is that Gaea and Odin are his biological parents in as much as gods have biological parents. Thor was killed as an infant and to revive him the phoenix blessed him with her fire her powers restored life to him so he became her son as well as she is one who brought life back to his soul. Gods having three parents is not unusual in mythology
Right on Rob for bringing these kinds of stories to the forefront. The masses need to know what's going on in this Thor saga. Marvel should be thanking you!
I really like Cates take thus far, and I'm interested to see his how his precived death/ showdown against Thanos and his army is going down. However I must say I am heavily in the stand that appreciated Marvel sticking with Gea/ Gaia as Thor's mother as it's always been like that in the comics (which ties him to a lot of other mythologies and thus makes multiple belifes co-existing feel more authentic) and the fact that it matches actual mythology in which Jord (the embodyment of the earth) also is his biological mother.
Seems like the writers are doing a massive build up for Thor, but he has always been nerfed after becoming arguably the strongest character in Marvel comics, be it Herald of Thunder, Rune King Thor, etc. Hopefully he gets the power up and recognition that he deserves and the writers do justice to such an amazing character.

I want to see Thor godsmack the Hulk...allow me to summarize please. So it is a typical day of the Avengers to wit somewhere on earth or in space our Marvel heroes defeat an unknown foe. To the Hulk's credit, as usual, he decimates a literal army of bad guys in this battle which easily clenches the victory. Without saying the other incredible feats of power displayed by the other members of the Avengers to include that of Thor, Son of Odin, nothing but ashes remain of the earth threatening enemy who will go unexplained for now for the sake of keeping this commentary short. The jade giant still ragging after the fight is at peak incredible strength right now because of an ultra deep level of anger which makes his strength literally off the charts. I mean at this particular point in time Hulk is stronger than he has ever been to the point that 'NO' comic book hero or villain, for that matter, can engage him. Hell even the comic book writer at this point can't write Hulks power deceleration in the script. However, the god Thor, Son of Odin after this great battle has had enough. He confronts the savage raging Hulk with no help from the comic book writers or scribes and looking up to him he speaks in a firm but calm voice, "Shut it down old friend." And with those words, Hulk clenching both fist, raises his arms up above his head to smash Thor and Thor upon realizing that there is no other way, shows his frustration of this rage monster by dropping his hammer and looking at his own open palm hand with each finger extended forming a palm swatting posture to wit as the Hulk comes down with world breaking force with both fist, Thor steps back just out of reach and smacks the living shit out of Hulk so hard that it penetrates Hulk through the surf of the earth or outer space planet they defeated an unknown on such that Hulk comes out the other end of the planet and is crashed into another planet or asteroid 50 Zillion light years away resulting in him reverting back to David Banner after being godsmacked by Thor. I would like to see the godsmack added to Thor's power spectrum as an ultra powerful forces that CANNOT be overcome by any past, present or future god, hero, villain, devil, demon, witch, robot, alien, space creature, legend, magic, science or anything imageable in the world and universe of comics. 😁
Thor simply isn't an idiot. Waititi, made him an idiot. Thor is a brave warrior who is always learning and will think about the big picture as well as enjoy the pleasures of his allies company and battle. Waititi...just made him a fool. And it started in Ragnarok
Hey Comics explained outside of Marvel there was exactly one god with a conscious. The Brother of Cthulhu. He's the reason why the Eldritch are sealed away and can't just break into the universe in the Cthulhu mythology.
Destroy was a bad choice here, you should have used Humbled, I get where you were going with it but at the same time it made it feel click baity when the Elder God just leaves and is not in fact destroyed.
I thought Gaea and The Phoenix sorta combined energy as his mothers cuz Thor wasn’t breathing and the phoenix breathed life into him cuz of that Avengers story with Avenger Prime and all the multiverse linking and Robbie Reyes meeting like hundreds of himself.
I know there's been ups and downs in comics the last decade, and especially in the MCU as of late. But I really do appreciate Rob finding some real good stuff to share, hell, half the comics I read are from his recommendations. I really love comics, but I like finding the diamonds and reading those.
I got a question Rob, in terms of the pantheon landscape, between DC and Marvel who do you believe has the strongest pantheon in their respective universes? Because it just seems to me that marvel keeps elevating their versions of the gods to universal heights while DC keeps there’s a balance level.
Marvel lost all sense of balance level. OP heroes need OP threats or they are boring. Balanced heroes leave greater options in story telling. Storm and Hulk rather bore me now. The pantheons are running without rules, with revisions and additions running amok. Like... the Mother of Monsters dates from The One Above All and her brood resides on Earth, but how does that play with the Demiurge and the Elder Gods? The bigger the stories became in different titles the bigger the contradictions and contrivances. Marvel plays loose. Writer's create new canon. DC's approach seems more stable. Which is weird because in the 80s it was the complete opposite. It's hard to make comparisons between an apple and an orange, though maybe Marvel would be more aptly called a tomato at this point.
Not Rob (obviously), but the name "Demiurge" is borrowed from philosophy where he is the shaper of the world, but not necessarily its creator. IIRC, some of the Gnostics called him the "false creator", trying to trap human souls in his flawed world, keeping them out of god's heaven. So, probably not TOAA, and not a good guy, either.
Seeing Thor use his intelligence & wit, as opposed to endlessly swinging his fists & hammer, is a much appreciated turn from what’s normally expected of him. I love it

And with those words, Hulk clenching both fist, raises his arms up above his head to smash Thor and Thor upon realizing that there is no other way, shows his frustration of this rage monster by dropping his hammer and looking at his own open palm hand with each finger extended forming a palm swatting posture to wit as the Hulk comes down with world breaking force with both fist, Thor steps back just out of reach and smacks the living shit out of Hulk so hard that it penetrates Hulk through the surf of the earth or outer space planet they defeated an unknown on such that Hulk comes out the other end of the planet and is crashed into another planet or asteroid 50 Zillion light years away resulting in him reverting back to David Banner after being godsmacked by Thor. I would like to see the godsmack added to Thor's power spectrum as an ultra powerful forces that CANNOT be overcome by any past, present or future god, hero, villain, devil, demon, witch, robot, alien, space creature, legend, magic, science or anything imageable in the world and universe of comics. 😁
trash
The one with wheel and cycle sounds like Mahoraga from JJK
Marquis of death.... Some McGuffin.
😂😂😂
Elder god history is reintroduced.
So marvel is bringing back the rune element. This will be interesting🔥
I love Storm & Thor's relationship.
When did Thor fix the hammer
Cthons origin and the consuming of the elder gods is actually a pretty big part of the side stories of the Midnight Suns videogame.
Man, awesome 💯...
Could you make a video explaining Gaia?
Thor's supposed to be intelligent? Shit... someone better go tell Taika Waititi, then. Apparently he didn't know...
@Click_Profile_for_more_info588 huh?
Please clarify.
Hey Rob can you do a video on Madame Webb? Since the trailer for the movie came out, I would love to see a comic explained video on her.
I was so hoping for a God blast😅
I know there's been ups and downs in comics the last decade, and especially in the MCU as of late. But I really do appreciate Rob finding some real good stuff to share, hell, half the comics I read are from his recommendations. I really love comics, but I like finding the diamonds and reading those.
Immortal thor is probably marvels flagship series right now, not exactly a hidden diamond.
What all this is telling me is that the Demogorge is rather lousy at his job if dangerous Elder Gods are allowed to act in the main universe.
Can you please do a video on marvels Godzilla please
Hey, Rob so is the demiurge the one above all?
Not Rob (obviously), but the name "Demiurge" is borrowed from philosophy where he is the shaper of the world, but not necessarily its creator. IIRC, some of the Gnostics called him the "false creator", trying to trap human souls in his flawed world, keeping them out of god's heaven. So, probably not TOAA, and not a good guy, either.
I can’t wait to hear your excitement over Johnathan Hickman doing the entire ultimate universe NEW ERA of comics starting in the new year 🔥
What about sentry can he defeat elder god 13:58
No Minataur, Skurge or Utgard Loki?
this channel one of a kind. Just pure comics. I gotta give credit where it's due. Huge value here if u like comics.
