1 minute, 2 minutes, who cares! It's just about the ritual. I remember that I also like to pull over some vinyl records, clean, turn on the console, put the vinyl, move needle carefully on the exact starting point, sit, relax, close my eyes, and start listening to the analog textures of the record.... So, it's just about how you enjoy life and use your time. :D I think most of the time convenience kills on how to enjoy a particular thing and the required attention to do so. Thank you Hoons for your passion, your time, and this channel!

If both grinders produces a particle size in a range then the sieve was a fixed point in that range. if you were to move the grind slightly finer on either of the grinder you would get more in the middle secion. If you go a lot finer both grinders would probably get all their coffee in the middle section. Doing a range of grind settings might give a better picture of the range of sizes in the grind.

It took me 45 seconds at 8 clicks to grind 18g with the comandante c40 mk4. I think the key is to keep the grinder in an upright position and try to minimize movement to prevent coffe been jumping into the grinder so it goes faster into the burrs.

I'm in Tucson too. Thinking about the 1zpresso J-Max to use with my 9Barista. I have a Knock Aerogrind and I'm often having a hard time making fine adjustments. With the 9Barista you can't choose your shot time only coffee g in and grind setting. The Comandante w/ Red Clix is 0.015mm per click and the J-Max is 0.0088mm. The finer adjustment is leaning me to the 1Zpresso.

You really need to do a BLIND taste test. The flaw here, is that even after a clean spoon and a mouth rinse, you still just "warmed up" your taste buds on cup1 for cup 2. Try them in reverse order, or go totally blind and see if the results change.

The particle sizes was very similar. Not sure how a different grinder with same sized grind makes a coffee different. The 2nd shot ended up with a couple more ML of extraction. So, not really an accurate comparison.

Please note that compare grinder is a non sense if you do not have the exact same size in microns for each one. Because if you have a grinder that give 380 and the other 410 it's normal the taste will be different. The grind size have to be the exact same to compare the quality of uniformity beetween the grinders. Then the taste. The red clix have 15microns per click and you can see a difference with one click on tasting so impossible to be as precise to compare 2 different grinder because you need the size in microns of each to have exact same setting and i've seen any youtuber doing this level of technicity. Morality you CANNOT test two grinder at same level of quality like jmax vs c40 if all same parameters. Jmax have 8.8 microns per click it mean you have to install red clix on comandante to have 15microns then with jmax try to have the exact same size out.... Then you can have a shot. Otherwise you do not compare anything here.

Your conclusions are flawed. Most straight espresso drinkers (you are not one of them) will not care about the extra time involved in grinding for espresso with the Comandante, as they probably will only prepare 1 or 2 shots daily. Straight espresso drinkers only care about taste, and the Commandante delivers that in spades. The milk drinks you like can adequately be prepared with a $50 hand grinder purchased on AliExpress. There are more hand grinders in Commandante's price range than you mentioned; they are : Apollo, Orphan Espresso Lido OG, and the TimeMore Chestnut X, with their newly-designed (game changing?) burrs. BTW, if you remove the 2 washers from the burr set of your ROK grinder, it will be stepless, offering more grind adjustments than the excellent 1ZPresso JX.

Hoon loves his espressos most. He makes others for our benefit mostly.

I think you're right, Hoon is not typically a straight espresso drinker. And espresso lovers do only care about taste.
However, caring about the extra time involved is different, for each barista, espresso lovers, too. I Love espresso, that's my own commandante, and I still use it sparingly for espresso.
I only ever drink milk when I go out, but I wouldn't trust a $50 grinder for espresso, unless it was a cheap high-end one lmao. I think the cheapest one out there that's, espresso capable, is 1Zpresso Q2. That's $90-100, with some good burrs. Timemore Slim and C2 are also in that price range and good for espresso.
