There seems to be a lot of confusion. The next chapter is not the final chapter of Inverted Fate. It is the final chapter of Null, which is the first story in the final arc. Then there are at least 13 chapters that comprise the true finale and will contain a ton of custom assets, maps, etc, and will have some of the highest production values in IF to date. Null was important in setting up a darkest hour, exploring character, and tying up some loose ends. However, Asriel is not in the Underground, and there are still many things to explore with him. The lengthy final arc is important because if they tried to fight Asriel right away, it is unlikely that they could win. Also, the dragon is a character I've had for over 15 years who will be in a project I hope to pursue after IF. He also appeared in Chapter 38 extras and in Chapter 54.

i'm not sure if lilac having the name of a flower is foreshadowing because dorked didn't name lilac (said on a post on the IF tumblr blog) but it could be very likely that dorked just specified it had to be a flower
Man, i wonder how it feels to conclude a work six years in the making, one which is really high-quality and has persisted through the periods in which perception of Undertale was... Warped, due to the fanbase. The webcomics were genuinely bombastic when they began, and now we are at the ultimate, and they have only gotten better.
Also, hope nothing terrible befalls lilac, which is conveniently named after a flower and Frisk's best friend ツ
Thanks for the kind words! We've actually got quite a ways to go before the story ends, though. 2023 is gonna be a very big year for IF with a lot of awesome stuff. We've already got close to an hour of footage done for the next part of the story after null, and lots left to do.

Also glad to see Chara's warmed up a bit more to humans in general, to the point that they at least don't have beef with another kid who's been thrown into this with them, and one who _hopefully_ can still be Frisk's friend.

The thumbnail gives me the whole "That moment when you're trying to relax and then your younger siblings are starting to argue with eachother" vibes.
Although Frisk and Chara don't have a sibling relationship in this AU and are the same age. xD I do get that vibe, tho, in terms of the overall mode and Cap being so exasperated.

I started watching/reading IF just recently (literally when null_5 came out.)
But, I’ve went back and this honestly is one of, if not, THE best written au I’ve seen yet.
The protagonists (Frisk, Chara, and Lilac as of last episode) aren’t perfect, but that’s what makes them so enjoyable to root for. Seeing Asriel acting like Flowey (and not like after fight Asriel) is a breath of fresh air.
I’m honestly really hoping nothing terrible happens to their friendship.
This video alone is enough to keep me waiting for more. Seriously, this is insanely high-quality.
I’m just hoping that the ending for this gives everyone at least a bit of a happy ending.
Also, the scene at 6:15 just made me die laughing.
I like how in thumbnail you can see Frisk and Lilac talking and confronting the past, meanwhile Chara just standing here with a face that says "I'm so done with this, will it ever end?". Also given what happened in the last postcredits I'm really curious what will happen this time. I'm pretty sure there are some interesting theories. Oh yeah and I want to see if Lilac will join Frisk and Chara and will be playable party member as well.

The reconciliation went slightly better than I already expected! Well done, Frisk! Nice cameo, too! (Even though I don’t know that dragon…) Also I didn’t expect Asriel to still have use for his former flower form… o-oh yeah he also gave me a chill down the spine at the ending.
Yeah, that dragon is a major character in a project I'd like to do in the future.
Considering how absolutely incredible Inverted fate is, I’m excited to see what that project comes to be!

I'm glad Frisk and Lilac managed to tie some loose ends with each other and that she also decided to go along with them. I'm worried though, but I hope everything will work out. I suppose the next chapters will be much more harder to predict, because now we'll get some action on the surface...? If surface even exists anymore, we still don't know what Asriel did with it. Seeing as it'll be mostly original content I'm really excited. I'm sure it's gonna be amazing to the point that we can't even imagine.

Ok, so is asriel here omniscient and omnipresent here? Obviously he’s omnipotent here, and at this point can warp reality whenever (he could even force the flowey armour on frisk, though weather this was a activation thing he set up beforehand or he concisely did is unknown), but can he see literally everything? And technically can be literally everywhere?
He can see whatever he wants to see when he feels up to it, but he's been making preparations, so he isn't constantly watching them. He's multitasking, basically.
I think this part, more than any other part thus far, suffers in terms of pacing. I understand the necessity of their reunion being short and sweet but I do think that having so little time to establish Lilac and make sure these three characters properly know each other is a pretty huge deteriment to the way this story's going. I'm like 95% sure Chara doesn't even introduce themselves to Lilac besides saying "I'm a reanimated corpse," which is just so weird to me.
I think the best instance of the pacing really making this part suffer narratively was the whole detail of it being Frisk's birthday. I was actually quite excited when it was brought up on the Discord server that this would be the case - it reminded me a lot of a favorite book (and Netflix) series of mine, A Series of Unfortunate Events. In the seventh book of that, the three main characters, a trio of orphaned siblings, are locked in prison and set to be executed the following day. During the long night of hopelessness, the eldest sibling, Violet, realizes that it's her brother Klaus's birthday, and attention is drawn to the sheer irony of having a birthday in such a dismal and dark hour for the characters. The moment is given time to sink in for the audience, and we feel for the characters because it's written in such a way that feels realistic.
Here, this detail feels entirely extraneous. For how excited I was to see it be brought up, I was shocked to see it reduced to such a "huh. well let's keep going." I do understand the urgency of the situation but the sheer lack of reflection on that detail from any of the characters makes the moment feel really empty. Lilac brings it up, Frisk says they forgot, Chara doesn't even comment, and then they... keep walking in sync without anything conversationally leading to that. Even a line from Chara saying "we don't have time to dwell on this, let's keep moving" or something similarly cactus-y would have helped a lot. It feels so odd, out of place, and really narratively insignificant the way it's used that I just felt disappointed.
I guess that's my issue - I was really excited for these characters to get some screentime to interact and play off of one another in this one before we dive headfirst into whatever cruel things await us in null_7. Instead, it feels like we're being ushered straight into the action - no time for these characters to really interact beyond brief conversational snippets, and whatever dialogue bits are strictly necessary to move the plot forward.
It's especially confusing to me that null_3 gave Frisk and Chara (and the readers) a much-needed breather from the walkback through the Underground and gave the characters some time to reflect. But now that Lilac's here - she's really not getting that same courtesy, and that's a shame, since I'm kind of struggling to get a read on her character and personality just from how fast everything is moving.
Considering the sheer amount of effort that goes into IF, I can hardly say this is a bad part at all - it's brilliantly animated, the production quality remains just straight-up bonkers, and the post-credits with Asriel is chilling and leaves me hyped for whatever's coming next. I just wish the big moment of Lilac finally becoming a part of this story didn't feel like it was being rushed through - I think the best way to describe it was that it felt like the S3 episode of Owl House where they had to squeeze a ton of content into very little time (no thanks to disney) and the pacing was really rapid-fire as a result. I'm excited that the proper final arc is apparently gonna have more parts that are each longer in length - because as is, Null's felt like this really rapid-fire part of the comic (for at least the parts after 3) that don't give the readers much time to breathe.
I would say that this was the only real installment of “Null” that felt a bit rushed to me. The rest progressed about as fast as they should have, in my opinion; this overhauled Underground is just a scare tactic from Asriel, it doesn’t really need to be expanded upon.
I do agree about Lilac maybe needing a _bit_ more time to talk with Chara and Frisk, but at the same time, I’m not really sure where it could have been fit in to feel natural. And one thing that should be noted is Lilac actually _does_ know who Chara is, at least somewhat: It wasn’t included in the video, but optional dialogue in the Spamton fight has Lilac mention Chara’s birth parents built a memorial statue of them in a park on the surface. So she at least knows their public _image_ well enough, and Chara would have gathered that through their interaction.
Actually, including that dialogue in null_5 might have helped a but with the issue you brought up. Still, it is there, so thought it was worth mentioning.
As for Frisk’s birthday, I’m actually kind of unsure where I would have implemented that. But as of now, I feel like there might be more of a payoff to that fact, and it was just being set up here. Asriel _does_ know about Lilac and Frisk’s initial falling out, as shown by the Flowey battle; it’s likely he’ll bring this new revelation back around in the next part.
Guess what I’m saying is, is that while this is probably the biggest “filler” episode thus far, all things considered it did what it was supposed to. And with each successive part of this arc nicely following up on any elements left hanging, I wouldn’t cry foul just yet.
One point I feel should be brought up - even if Lilac knows who Chara is, she knows them by their deadname
Honestly, that's fair. Admittedly, concerns like this are things that I wish had been brought up in the scripting phase of development- but it never was, so by the time it was put to animation, it wasn't really something we could address. If it helps at all, there will be a couple more Lilac interactions in the next chapter, but it was tricky juggling it all because we didn't want to pad things out either, if that makes sense. Given the urgency of what's going on outside- especially with Lilac bringing it up to Chara and Frisk, during their conversation at the start.
Though that is an interesting criticism in that the scene at the start was close to five minutes, so around the same length as the Chara and Frisk conversation in null_3. I do think we could've potentially had the video version of null_5 include more of the optional acts (e.g. Chara interacting with Lilac)- 'cause there is some extra stuff there, but obviously that's only for the playable build rather than the official video, which I can understand means the video version is missing some stuff.
The balance has been hard because we also didn't want the empty underground to grow stale, but a big part really is just- we had these scripts locked months ago, and it's been too late to really do anything about that whereas with the next portion of the story, we are still in progress of scripting.
@@MasterSquirrel993 It really is just a case of nobody bringing up pacing concerns when I asked for input months ago. We didn't want to dwell too long with the urgency of what's ahead, and we tried to have things like all three of them talking on their way through New Home to give the three more time to interact with each other. The birthday comment was admittedly a late addition- we wanted to have onscreen confirmation SOMEWHERE, but I do see why it might've felt awkwardly handled.
Like, we didn't want things to drag, but we did want the important part of the chapter- Frisk and Lilac finally talking things out- to get some time, and we felt a four minute scene was a good place for that. Null_7 will give them a bit more time to talk to each other, and honestly, I think the overall pacing of null may be smoother when all chapters can be watched in sequence. I might do an edit of them all together later as a sorta "movie" edition.
@@Dorked Yeah, that's kind of what I've been finding regarding pacing between episodes. A few of the earlier parts admittedly felt like they ended a bit abruptly as well, but re-watching them after the new episodes' release made everything flow much better.
Giving Lilac some more time in Null_7 I think will help a bit, as well as her role to play in the true finale... whatever that role may be, of course.
That tease at the end where all the human souls and monster souls were absorbed was honestly so exciting! Cant wait for the finale of this chaper

Anyway, real comment: Short, but sweet (sweet in the heartwarming sense as well). It’s nice to see Frisk be able to tie up loose ends like this. And Lilac’s been a surprisingly fun character! She might be in over her head, but she’s also not going to just stand back and be a bystander to this world’s insanity.
And Spamton’s still great, naturally; whoever came up with the Spamton chair deserves serious praise. Oh, and even if he’s not a Darkner anymore, and thus doesn’t have the same backstory, it’s actually really sweet seeing the Creation of Adam painting (off putting as it may be XP) of Papyrus offering Spamton the phone. That’s just… man, it feels good to see this spammail salesman bastard be happy for once :,)
Flowey’s abandoned husk, though… it never even occurred to me Asriel would have discarded the flower once he got back his body, but it makes a _lot_ of sense. Or heck, even if it’s not literally the flower, and he just placed it there as a sign of his “victory,” it was highly unsettling to see represented here. Especially speaking as someone who did kill the dude on my neutral playthrough.
A “simpler” episode it may be, but just call it a hunch: Before the next episode shows us what’s on the horizon, we’d better savor these moments of familiarity while we can.

Flowey/Asriel is also my favorite character and I love how IF portrays him. A vast majority of the stories return Asriel to the way he was before everything that made him flowey, being a throwback to his complex and well-written character. And others on the other hand imply that the only fate flowey deserves is to be killed (which completely contradicts the message of undertale)

Do you have a idea How to find the exit and escape from the underground? Chara, Frisk and Lilac are Fearless Children they can go to asriel to take happy ending of inverted fate.

oh my god, i am such a massive big fan of the null AU! its so cool how this fake chara swaps personalities with asriel, it’s such a neat take! though canon chara is my favorite character in all of fiction, so can’t wait for her _proper_ debut in the genocide route where she’ll throw some knife murder into bad!asriel’s plan :D
also the underground now being a dark world is really neat, since frisk is already undertale’s version of kris! though since this is a role swap, shouldn’t spamten be themed after undyne the undying? also frisk having the purple soul as a best friend is neat, but perserverence is supposed to be purple not lilac lmao, maybe change that before the finale next time xdd
this was a short au, but definitely one ill remember for a long tim. fireglobe, you were definitely one of the best aus makers, right up there with murdertale horror sans, waters of megalovania and underswap dustbelief. This is a very interesting chapter. I'd put in a spoiler warning but everyone who is behind should've went back to the chapters they didn't read yet because this segment is very spoiler heavy anyways. But back to what I was saying, it looks like we might get a glimpse of the surface, but it probably won't last for long. I also highly doubt that there is going to be a battle, but by the looks of things I think we are truly going to be jumping into the new world Asriel made. I am very curious in what Asriel new world is going to be like.

10:43 so uh... havent watched the rest yet, but it just occured to me... asriels had full access to the surface fora not short amount of time... while we know a monster absorbing 7 souls makes them effectively a god... we also dont know if they can absorb more than that... and asriel here looks pretty different from his regular god of hyperdeath form so.... just wondering if maybe theyre going to be fighting an asriel with more than 7 souls (or the equivalent of, given the monster souls) this time around...
