    I'm so proud of what MH has become. I feel like any of the 14 weapons have become fun and deep enough that I could play through the whole game with that weapon type alone. This is what over 15 years of incremental development and refinement has accumulated into and I know it'll still get even better in the future

      100% agree. As a 14 year veteran hunter I usually rotate between 4 weapon types (Hammer, Gun Lance, Dual Blades, Great Sword) but so far I'm so enamoured with dual blades I don't think I'll ever switch.

    Great video, learned a thing about Gunlance!
    A few other tips I've discovered:
    -You can perform the Gunlance's aerial burst by pressing ZR+A after the midair shelling
    -The Hammer's charge switch mentioned can also be used to immediately use max charge silkbind moves
    -You can perform a special aerial attack with Insect Glaive by pressing X during the silkbind vault
    -The Great Sword's plunging thrust can combo into a strong wide slash into a true charge slash
    -You can press A after the Sword and Shield's guard slash to skip the initial jumping slash of the perfect rush

    An additional note for the Insect Glaive's airtime you showed off: if you hold A between wirebug dashes then tap B you can kill your momentum and then immediately accelerate back to full speed in any direction with the B input, after whihc you can continue to use Insect Glaive's airdash and airslash before using another wirebug.

    Another tip on LS, from sheath pose if you do an IA slash its a 2nd shortcut into spirit combo and replaces the first attack in the combo, just like you can do with fade slash. This is especially useful because you can soaring kick, helm breaker, sheath pose, IA slash then go straight into spirit blade II hit and finish combo to hit red gauge in a very short amount of time.

    A faster option than the tip you gave for Gunlance is to charge a shell in the air to get the Wyrmstake shortcut. Charging shells in the air seem to be slightly faster than charging them on the ground. If you have a large opening then from the aerial slam doing fullburst > widesweep > wyrmstake is one of your strongest options.

    Awesome video, but tbh a few classes were the same explanation of being able to attack after a rush up wirebug, however others were very useful and informative, (charge blade in particular, awesome! Gun Lance also, kicking myself for missing that shortcut to wyvernstake!)
    Will however say with long sword, you forgot to mention the other advantage of the plunging thrust, is that for every strike it makes, it also charges the spirit guage. The iai slash does not charge the guage, it just initiates the blue regen mode.
    Another LS shortcut often missed is the fade slash, it lets you counter a move (but I've never seen any major advantage using it as a true counter) however it also allows for swift repositioning and quickly builds spirit guage again when landing the follow up. It also acts as a shortcut into the later spirit reckoning combo.
    But yh, sorry to have been that guy, I did appreciate your vid tho! Thanks

  • @darthplagueis13
    @darthplagueis13 2 года назад

    Also, for SnS: You can activate a roundslash by pressing X+A at any time during a combo. You can use this with a directional input to change direction around mid-combo, not unlike the spiral slash you might know from Iceborne. Outside of being able to turn, there's two things to note about this move:
    1: If you are into this kind of playstyle you can use the roundslash for an infinite combo where you always round slash instead of performing one of the lengthier combo finishers.
    2: However, there's a good reason as to why you might not want to do that which is: The roundslash gains a big damage increase if used after a full combo.
    Another bonus application of X+A that wasn't in World: If you are airborne from either the final strike of a perfect rush or from using the wirebug jump, you have a third option next to the mid-air slash (which is almost entirely useless) and the falling bash: Pressing X+A will instead perform a plunging thrust that hits several times on its way down and since it is performed with the sword, it still retains its elemental damage, possibly making it a better damage option than the falling bash if your build focuses on elemental damage rather than raw.

      It's very probable that you're just used to your strong builds from the other games, demo weapons usually feel really weak and underwhelming.
      I was the same with SnS, I was so used to a Perfect Rush doing like 1700 damage with the Fatalis SnS from Iceborne that when I played the demo and a Perfect Rush only does about 150 damage I felt like the weapon had been ruined.

    Also holding spinning bludgeon is not really a good idea since it actually takes longer to charge your hammer while holding the attack than normally charging it.
    Not to mention the monster is never gonne magically position himself were you're aiming.

    So on the one hand, every weapon is getting a bunch of new things specific to Rise. One the other hand, Clutch Claw is absent so I'll have to get used to not flinch slamming monsters into walls, off cliffs, into other monsters and laughing maniacally as I seize the advantage.

      Bruh wyvern riding and wirebug is way more fun u can not only still slam monsters into walls u can make them attack each other and control their actual attacks.

    What is a good weapon for a beginner, which isn't ranged and not sword and shield?

    • @jakeryan2805
      @jakeryan2805 3 года назад +1

      Hammer. Its move set is quick enough for you to dodge, but meaty enough for you to feel like you are hitting hard, plus you will get "accidental" knockdowns on monsters by hitting their head as you learn how to dodge. No meters, or phials to worry about. It was what I start on in world, and I have no regrets. The game tells you sword, and shield but that weapon is actually complicated, and should not be used by beginners imo.

      And if you feel like the hammer is too slow then I think Dual Blades are a good weapon for beginners too. But whatever weapon you choose, I would suggest looking up a weapon tutorial for said weapon, just to know exactly what moves and options you have while you play. Even I as a long time MonHun player always look up tutorial videos for weapons when a new game comes out~

    • @jakeryan2805
      @jakeryan2805 3 года назад +1

      hmm i thought about it a little more, and the above poster didn't have a bad suggestion. Dual blades are relatively straight forward, but you have to watch your stamina, and it will train you to dodge, and learn monster move sets. Also another suggestion is Lance. This will allow you to block most monster attacks letting you learn their moves in safety, preparing you if you wanna switch later.

    Bow does not have healing as it's arc shot 100% of the time. Each bow has a different arc shot. There is healing/Affinity/Brace. Healing obviously heals(it's a regen not a straight heal) in an aoe affecting all allies including buddies. Affinity gives allies a affinity boost in an aoe increasing crit chance. Brace gives allies in an aoe a brace buff that stops them from getting knocked off their feet. You can check what arc shot each bow has in the equipment stats.

    This game is a prime example of Capcom at there most technical.
    A wise man once said...
    A good game should be easy to play,but hard to Master 🔥
    MH is beyond anything out there within terms of longevity.
    The game is still the same as it humble beginnings,but refined towards modern tastes.

    Does anyone know if you need to grind a ton to get matching armor pieces in this one?
    I looked like a jurassic hobo for most of World cuz I just wore whatever I had materials for.

    • @quickrick1631
      @quickrick1631 3 года назад

      The armor will most likely be just as expensive but weapons will cost less to upgrade, because they want to encourage trying out more weapon types, so you will at least have some extra materials to spend on armor.
