I've been playing bass 4 42 years it's not so much about competition. I've been around mono and Victor. Both started playing at like 4. Both are phenomenal. Mono is the young new cat Vic is 52 now all tricks aside. Vic can go places I've yet to see Mono go. But Mono will get there that simply comes with maturity. It's easy to try to discount one generation to the next. It's obvious Mono is great but it's obvious that he has been watching Vic closely and defining himself in his own right. I wish nothing but continues success.
6 years ago huh, Boy you realllyyy underestimated Thomas hahaha, right after you made this comment he started dropping amazing songs Edit: and to be fair, mononeon is definitely going way further than his dad has gone, which isnt really fair of me to say, I don't actually know anything, But I do know mononeon is everywhere right now, and I ain't never heard of his dad, Hell I went to berlin this year, and while I was there mononeon showed up on tour, blew my mind, but berlin IS the city of musicians after all,
@@selfactualizer2099 How did I underestimate him. In 7 years he has matured and set his own course and career as I stated earlier. Bass players don’t have egos. We love to see growth especially when we see someone as gifted as MonoNeon, Thundercat, Mohini Day and the next wave of bass genius’s.
And so his bass career begins. I was introduced to him through a RUclips video of him and Marcus Miller live at blue note 2022, just about 4 weeks ago and I’m thinking who’s this dude hiding behind Marcus but plays with such attitude next to Marcus. And I’ve become an instant fan of Mono. Phenomenal self taught magician.
I just learn about mono in the last few weeks; WOW! I grew up around the corner from the Wooten family (and I think Vic would agree), music is freer today in its theoretical expression than it was in the 70s! Thanks in part to Vic! (aka Rubber Band Man! WHS Talent Show circa 1978)
twainfunk57 you obviously have no clue what you are talking about with that bold statement sir. (unless you are doing the primus sucks thing, hard to tell here on the internets)
I watched something about mono and it was saying he uses a different type of bass guitar, where he has strings on there that are (I forget exactly what the notes are called) off key. I'm not sure if les plays one of those but yeah I would say mono hands down is more funky then les. but if we are talking slap bass les is up there I don't know who I would put above him.
I don't know if that band cant play or if theyre purposefully doing nothing but mono makin everyone sound amazing while playing some of the sickest lines ever is insane
"Where did he learn this, he ain't had enough time in life to learn this" best comment. Man you crazy good!
I am always surprised these aren’t viral videos!mono has to be the most under talked about bassest on the planet
I totally agree!
he's known more now...
He had runs like this at 17 years of age?! Whew!!!!! No doubt about but, this dude is a Phenom!!!
god bless whoever took this footage at the time
Such a killin take on Teen Town. MonoNeon has the true spirit of the bass in him.
Not sure which is more entertaining: MonoNeon or the awe-struck expressions of the onlookers...
Whoever that young man on bass is: he'll go far!
Just saw him at Newport Jazz Fest 2022, Blew My Mind! now I’m doing the deep dive and not disappointed Wow!
I'm obsessed with this video

in a regular fit, I guess he wasn't neon yet
how many ideas can one man have
Mono KILLED this solo, but I'm also going to give props to j drew. He murdered the drums on this one.
"What in the heck!?"
ya man me too
Mono Neon ya playing ,ya style and funkiest dude on the block!
I was there, sitting behind Lance I think. Look at Wallace Walker. He still had dreads!
That’s what happens when your parents lock you up in a room, with a bass, then 17 years later you come outside for the first time
At mark 10:25.....Jaco would smile so big!!!!! That tune (Teen Town) is a wonderful piece alà Weather Report!!! Just simply "really great music"😌
Incroyable !😱😱😱magnifique !💪💪et bravo les batteurs aussi !!💪💪🤘🤘

csharpbnatural i
LEGEND
ooooooof my Lord :) greeting from the UK
upside down...i'm just saying. UPSIDE...DOWN.
He's got the groove and the pocket
he is smashin!!! what earth wind and Fire song is that he's playing on the neck?
His double thumb is so crisp! So much attack! Does that attack come with practice or is that just how is thumb is lol?
He threw in a taste of Donna Lee. His bass vocabulary at 17 is scary.
this dude is absolutely ridiculous on that bass.
8:57 for the transition to fire
and 5:39 sweet couple runs into the offset ghost note groove
looks like les claypool might have a challenger. mono neon is brutal on that bass, I would love to see that live.
Les Sucks!
twainfunk57 you obviously have no clue what you are talking about with that bold statement sir. (unless you are doing the primus sucks thing, hard to tell here on the internets)
I'm not even famous but i can play bass better than Les.35 years in funkdom and while i can handle Les,i can't fuck with Mono, that's real!
I watched something about mono and it was saying he uses a different type of bass guitar, where he has strings on there that are (I forget exactly what the notes are called) off key. Victor Wooten
I don't know if that band cant play or if theyre purposefully doing nothing but mono makin everyone sound amazing while playing some of the sickest lines ever is insane
This is a jam session spotlighting Mono, I’ve seen a few like it here in Memphis
That groove at 9:50 though!!!
It's you can't hold no groove by Victor Wooten. He adds his own slightly punchier feel, though. Very impressive.
Harmonic riff at 5:07 gets me every time
He snuck tracy in there and then left her!! Lol
❤❤❤❤❤
G'lord God almighty!
“😊😮😊😂😂Keep on”
💯🔥🔥🔥
Is this at a church? Which one?
A monster "den", a monster now.
12:19... and who's on drum at 15:00
please ?
I'm willing to learn.
LAWD LAWD LaaaAAAAAWD
He snuck donna lee in at 5:43 wow!!
Did Church realise what they ushered in to this world?
3:12, they piss me off because he just started a dope groove that he was about to murder and they stopped him!!
You're telling me playing a right-handed bass left-handed was just how he grew up?
1:38 trust me...
drumtravelfun hell yeah
whats that riff at 9:50? isnt it from a larry graham song
thats cant hold no groove if you aint got no pocket by victor wooten
Well damn
If you want to play like this, never learn using shapes
10:18
+Fidmark1 That's teen town by weather report I think
I noticed that most drummers can’t keep up with him
RIDICULOUS! NASTY
2:12 4:08
:O
He’s gotta be on the spectrum somewhere for him to be that ridiculous!!
I was a bass genius at 17 but not like this
