My favorite version of this song, was a big hit for me in the club i played in Studio II Toronto Ontario Canada. He was also nominated for a Juno Award, which is the equivalent of a Grammy in Canada

Knew of this version but the first time I've heard it. Quite similar to the John Paul Young original. To the commenter earlier in the thread, the JP Young version IS the original as it was specifically written for him and the writers (Harry Vanda & George Young) also produced it. Not knocking this version, I quite like it.

It's not close in the least bit but I don't dislike this as I thought I might. He did a slimy thing by hearing Young's demo and copying it but welcome to the music business. Young's has lasted and in every territory except Canada, his is the one we remember. There you go.

The instrumentation is very budget minded on this version. Sounds like only 1 violin for the zenith of this classic. J.P.Y. is more enchanting, sorry to be so critical.
