Yeah, imagine this, my husband always bought both the sweet and the savory, almost every weekend. And when i asked if he had a mission to made me fat he would say, one or two it's not a big deal. He really doesn't know the calory for one pieces of sweet martabak i pressume.

You should try chocolate+peanut+cheese topping. That's one of Indonesian people's favorite topping for martabak
for most westerners chocolate and cheese mixture is forbidden, according to them chocolate and cheese should be eaten separately. but for some Asian countries the combination of chocolate and cheese is a favorite flavor.

You order the wrong ones. You should order the chocolate and cheese. I know it sounds weird for westerners, but once you taste it, you'll introduced to the best combination ever.
Try: cheese topping (one of the best martabak's topping), and cheese-chocolate sprinkle/ovomaltine topping-crushed peanut (I know some western people don't like chococheese combination but just give it a try, it's actually good in martabak manis).

We Indonesian (me particularly) eat martabak manis as a snack. Eat it with friends, families, etc., when we gather in family room or when we chill out. In private, one portion is enough for 2 person. But when you're in a crowd, believe me, you'll never satisfied eating martabak manis 😄
Actually you gotta order the OG of martabak when you try it the first time. That is coklat kacang keju (chocolate peanut cheese). Da bomb 😀

Martabak Manis (sweet pancakes) is sweet dessert origin from Bangka island, have u try Balinese dessert; jaje, jaja wajik, bubur injin, pie Lengong, pisang rai, u will be amazed
I recommend for 'Martabak Pecenongan' maybe little bit expensive, but worth it for once you try
Martabak Manis is called Terang Bulan or Moon Light in Javanese Regions (Central Java eastwards to East Java). It's called also Martabak Holland. It's actually a Dutch Pancake.
Originally, it's served on table and not flipped and cut for takeaway. It doesn't have topping either, only a yellow round surface just like a full moon.
The further adaptations by Jakartan vendors or Semarang's, put the chocolate topping then various topping including almond chips.
Indonesia most favourite flavour : Mix : half cheese & half mix (chocholate, Peanut, sesame nut)
For savoury martabak (martabak telur) 2 or 3 eggs is perfect

Try to eat them with Ice tea or warm tea without sugar or black bitter coffee. Good for breakfast.
You can put the left martabak in the refrige and eat them in the next morning... breakfast with cold martabak and hot Black Coffee will be perfect..
Martabak is definitely for sharing and I really recommend you to try the chocolate+cheese+peanut cause it's the most classic way and maybe even the best (in my opinion)

They use instant spread, like Nutella, Ovomaltine, etc. for the more modern flavor but you should definitely try the more traditional one like the classic chocolate-cheese-nuts combo

The best way to enjoy. Buy martabak holland. Tell the seller dont put sugar on it, just cheese and condensed milk on topping.

if you go at jakarta, try martabak 43 pecenongan, in my opinion, that's the best ever, or martabak 65a pecenongan.
Cz they are using pandan essence , u must looking for using real pandan leaf in batter, its more nice flavor than essences one

Martabak Manis sometimes is also available in any Indonesian store outside Indonesia, so you might not need to go there to taste it
Next time try it from some famous seller. It should be different. Some good martabak manis have less oily, less sweet and less chewy. For a good martabak manis someone can eat whole portion or at least half of it. If you can only eat two or three slice, usually to much butter or too sweet.

From that price list, I believe you didn't buy the premium one. Usually the premium quality martabak manis will cost you 3-4 times more expensive than that price. It is not that expensive in dollar. (7-10 US dollar). I can assure you, trying the premium one will give you amazing experience. Try it. Visit the stall in Pecenongan Jakarta. Don't forget to prepare a plain flavor drink, like milk, water or unsweetened tea. Good Luck!

you didn't insult us. due to the fact, sweet martabak contains very high calories and sugar. we as Indonesians used to eat 1 box for 2 or 3, 4 people. only if you craving something sweet.

If you want to eat martabak but can't stand the heavy taste, try the thin version of martabak called TIPKER (tipis kering) which means thin and dry (crispy). They're as good as the thick ones and you'll feel less guilty! 🤭 Try 2 versions, the cheese & milk (keju susu) and chocolate & peanuts (coklat kacang). Both of you can finish 2 portions easily and all martabak stands has them. Enjoy!
