  • This is a prime time special recorded on NBC affiliate WXII-TV Winston-Salem, NC on January 14, 1987. Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley host the special. Willard Scott and Gene Shalit also appear. Guests include Tom Brokaw, Frank Blair, Joe Garagiola, Jack Lescoulie, Barbara Walters, Lee Meriwether, Betsy Palmer, Helen O'Connell, Florence Henderson, Betty Furness and others.

    Today it 2016, and this 35th anni special, is almost 30yrs old itself...time sure fly's...thanks for this trip down memory lane 👍

    I remember this very well
    TODAY on Prime Time and this was back when TODAY aired for 2 Hours in the Daytime instead of 3 hours and now 4 hours which is an overkill

    I think the speculative piece and interview on the future of television...in 2022...is worth a watch! 43:00 onwards.
    Very prescient in many ways if you think about the features they show. Including the 2/3 second ads lol given we have 6 second ads on RUclips now, and Tiktoks of less than a minute.

    I think 🤔 that TODAY AT 35 actually aired 💨 on the night 🌚 of January 31, 1987, at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, not January 14 of that year.

    The Today Show was at it's best when it was a serious news oriented show with Frank McGee in the early 70's. When the 90's rolled around it was becoming fluff and silly.

      They railroaded her out for Deborah Norville. Always knew it was a bad choice. Jane was such a great fit for the morning show.
