I came across this quote that reminded me of today's discussion, "In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into into growth or step back into safety" by Abraham Maslow.
We are accountable, therefore "responsible". Our " response"-ability " is found in our "ability to respond. " We do not control outcomes, or other people. We do have " free will " to choose our attitude. As well, we decide how we treat ourselves and others. There are many aspects to consider. Everyone wants to be understood, and heard. Aiming to create a climate that includes the highest and best interests for all concerned asks for patience, tolerance and consideration. Being open to express our concerns and to listen to others' perspectives will allow for a collaboration, and outcome that works for everyone. Mutual aid is the path to collaboration. It is both respectful, and inclusive.
Life presents us with many opportunities to respond, some of them automatic. I am trying to slow down and consider love as part of my response. It's a challenge, but I think it's the only way to change the world.
