It is a great place to take out a pontoon boat. I have been out on that lake many times.

Very good. I was reading my hardback copy of the TVA Technical Report No. 12 and wanted to see what changes had occurred since 1949. I see the 161-kV switchyard has been increased in capacity and the vegetation has certainly sprung from the walls of the valley on the downstream side of the dam. The dam would not have cooled naturally for 50 years, had not the ammonia refrigeration system been installed to cure the concrete properly. When the dam was built it was the 4th highest dam in the United States. Great video. I'd love to see the dam myself. Your tour will suffice for now.
One other interesting thing. Even though the Fontana Dam approval act went through Congress just days before the Pearl Harbor attack, the construction was hastened, because Oak Ridge Laboratories needed the surplus power (in fact taken in the name of Alcoa Aluminum) to help diffuse uranium for nuclear fuel refinement. It seems to me the majority of energy produced here went directly to Oak Ridge. Wish I could remember the percentage, but it was remarkably high.
