- We started making "Gay Family Values" videos as a response to prop 8 here in Ca. These videos have been a huge hit. We have come to understand that the reason these videos are so popular is that people dont get to see what it means to be a gay couple in a long term relationship raising children. Our family is no better and no worse then any other family.
We have been getting lots of questions about our family and in the past we would respond to every email we received. We have decided to open our family up to questions you may have.

I love the way Daniel is always looking at the camera and nodding or gesturing to punctuate a point his fathers are making! Such a great kid. He's been through a lot in his short life, and I think the support of his family has turned all his experiences into strength of character.
I love that you didn't even remove Daniel's last name. I read on a naming site of so many people who adopt kids age 3 to 7 and even change their first names. I feel like a name is a part of you identity, even as a kid and although I think letting the last name go is fine I really like that you kept it somewhere.
Brian, you are a male form of an actual mother that the kids won't have the need to miss a mother at all. Jay you too a perfect role for your cute children ! Keep your videos coming. We all want to see you grown old together ! :) Best Wishes!!
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your videos today. You're family is absolutely beautiful on the inside & out. I respect you all so much. I know you've all been through tough times in your lives &it amazes me how u turned your life around & see everything in a positive light now. As an Asian straight atheist highschooler, I wouldn't have thought that I would have a lot in common with your family but now I see we really do. Ive actually seen all your videos but I just decided to comment on this one.

Oh I'm booked. $65 for the bus ride. Providence to DC is only 405 miles or 6.2 hours. We leave the night before at 11PM and arrive around 8:30AM on the 11th. Then we depart at 6PM and arrive back in Providence just before 3AM. It's going to be frenetic but this is my first national march. I can't wait.

I really liked hearing about your name changes. My partner and I havent decided what to do about our names when we have children (we're a lesbian couple). Neither of us like our last names so we will probably both change our names a pick a new name we both like.

They look pretty "normal" to be. They are living with two parents that love and support them. They go on GREAT vacations have a beautiful house. They are also being taught to respect people and are being prepared to live independently when that time comes.
If your definition of "normal" is to live in a household of judging and making fun of people then I think those two beautiful kids are in a wonderful place!
Hehe.... well, you never know. But luckily for them they won't have to worry about that with two amazing dads like you. No matter what they'll know you will back them up and support them... something every kids deserves, but unfortunately not something all kids have.

As regards what the kids want be when they grow up. My mom said that when i was akids i always made my school friends act my dreams, and now i´m in film school, so i always says that your action as a kids will probably stick with you all you life.
Be whatever you want to be, that´s the great part of life, posibilities.

Actually, of course, I know they can both be anything they want with the love and support they get from their great Dads.

LOGO might not pick you guys up for a show, but they have a documentary series called Real Momentum that might be a good fit. They have some pretty neat topics. The last one I saw was about the children of gay couples as they become teenagers.
@mazajaria Having long lasting relationships has to do with attachment capacities not about if it is a hetero relationship, or not. We learn from our family of origin how to relate and love. We learn if our emotional needs and/or sexual needs can be met via our relationships.

I totally agree with you on how they do a lot better than straight parents. I'm from Utah and I know exactly what you're talking about.
For everyone who says that their lifestyle and family is wrong, well it's probably better than yours. I mean, look at Daniel, he looks up to Daddy Jay and wants to be like his daddy because he's a good parent. And if you think that being a parent is all about getting your genes in the gene pool and manipulated your kids to shape them the way that you want them to be and if you think that's right, then you have a problem. Their children are themselves and Jay is just awesome.

That's one reason why I'm out of the closet. The more people who know a gay person in day to day life, the more likely they are to think when someone talks about homosexuals in a negative manner. There are those who don't want to 'know', but I don't act more or less than my straight counterparts.

I think I'll jump in the car and drive up to Toronto and buy a couple. (I'm really sick of mowing the grass and doing housework-they will really come in handy!) ;-)
I mean, while I never worry about acting straight or gay, as you might see on my video blog I am someone who (if it worried me enough) could probably pass for straight. But I don't want to be anything other than the real me. My new job has me surrounded with straight guys and while the subject hasn't come up yet, I don't plan on being anything other than honest about myself.
Oh, by then she'll probably be too busy being President to worry about med school! ;)

primeribs: There are too many unwanted children in this word, and not enough good homes for them. This family is a perfect example of love and living life to the "American dream" potential. This is a normal, healthy family, from my view.

I always found it interesting that Jay took on Brian's last name, since I've always found it heteronormative for wives to assume their husbands' names. It's not like either of you are the "woman" of the relationship. In terms of distancing yourself (Jay) from your father's name, it makes so much sense now. Is there a more private way (email, FB) I could message you guys with questions perhaps not age-appropriate for all that would help me out as a young gay man?

@steffyb528 I commend you for your beliefs and your utter faith in the bible. As long as you yourself practice what you preach to others than I have no harsh thoughts towards you. It's one to thing be selective about what you believe, but then don't preach your selectiveness unto other people. I believe that in the end, we will all get judgement from the one and only. The very sentiments that caused Jay to choose Leffew over Fox??? (couldn't quite make it out), should, imo, have driven both of you guys to forsake christianity: just as Jay's dad disowned him, christianity disowned gay people for 2000 years (and that to put it mildly). Just as Jay's father doesn't deserve to have his surname perpetuated in his grandchildren, so does christianity not deserve to be perpetuated by fine people such as the four of you.

Sex outside of marriage is now so common place nobody is doing anything against this. But yet when two loving caring people are trying to raise children, its a bigger priority to protest? Even for heterosexual couples? So therefore logic dictates that the only time that a man and women should have sex is for procreation purposes then. Do you follow this logic? Do you only have sex with a woman to procreate? Sex as pleasure should be a sin in Gods eyes by your logic.
