Hey Daniel, I have a question. My church is expanding and I am the current drummer and our music leader has mentioned that we will be doing rotations. Which means I won’t be playing every Sunday. I don’t know how I feel about it but I do know it’s not about me but about God. How would you feel if this happened to you and what advice do you have for me? Thanks brother!!!
Hey, I’m my church’s drummer too! Right on! I know I’m not Daniel, but I used to play for a jazz band, and we had two drummers and one kit. We usually had songs assigned for each other, and we would switch between songs. We would also learn each other’s songs in case an emergency would happen and one of us couldn’t be there. One song, I played the bongo drums, and he played the kit, and we both had solos, and it was fun. I would talk to the worship leader about switching songs instead of whole sets, but if not, just look at it as an opportunity to just bask in worship without needing to focus on playing, when you’re not playing. If you absolutely don’t feel like you can do it, as harsh as it sounds, there’s a lot of churches with worship teams that have no drummer, so maybe God is calling you to one of them. God bless you, and whatever you do decide on, trust where God is taking you. You might learn something.
