You can clearly see that Merc had a Mark of the Wild buff on himself during the duel. The DK would have killed him at 6:12 when he was at 500 hp, but the extra resistance and stamina enabled him to stay alive and win the duel plus the 100k gold.
Having a good weapon is not against the rules of duel, but having buffs from other players is.

You can trade drums between players just like potions. I don't think a leatherworker or an alchemist should be allowed to use those items to gain an advantage only because they've created them.
+Reklen75 Yet engineers are allowed to use the speed buff, parachute, the rocket for extra dps, jcs have extra dps from gems etc etc. Each profession comes with its perks, this loss was only due to DK not playing his class the best it can be played, everything else is excuses.
I already knew who was gonna win when that Blood DK keyboard turned.

I remember fo this day... Blood dks in this patch were THE MOST broken class in wow history. No other class or period even holds a candle. Bone shield reflecting and mitigating damage. Blood strike rune gave it 45% more healing... Last but not least if they had pve armor they had like a 70% parry rating...

No way he is at a loss of words... That DK sucked ass! On more than one occasion he could have ended the rogue. A simple death coil would have gone a long way, and the death grip was off CD when he was togue was low and running away. The DK let him have that win.

hes a pve blood tank knight he may not even have death coil on his bars lol. The rogue was constantly running away and running back in making death grip pointless (the chains made more sense at low range) , he would have frustrated the the hell out of the dk. When the rogue truly tried running away the dkd did use death grip. he did start using death coil near the end but it was doing shit damage and was costing alot of runic power, so that's why he didn't spam it, he snot an unholy dk.
there was a point where 1 death coil would have worked, and it would have killed him.

McZipline dude, DK only had his own buffs, he has more health from talents and spec which is part of the game whereas Merc had a buff that WASN'T his own
Still one of the most epic duels I've seen.
Really though any rogue that vs'd a dk in that patch had to be epic just to get close to this.
PVE gear goes against a rogue for a 100k payday. That guy was the classic case of 'more money than sense'.

MOP fully almost balance in all spec. still playable.
Ehh feral druid and ww monks were pretty op and some specs were outright unplayable in pvp for the entire expac

And you, on the other hand, are leaving such comment under a duel between 2 DPS lasting for 9 goddamn minutes, while this gameplay piece is a perfect exemple of why PvPers started to leave the game massively as Cata came out.
Placki Plicki hmm I disagree pvp in cata was fine, mop it went to shit with the continuous development of pve content and the lack of fixing unbalanced classes, as when they tried to they would make another character over the top. this duel is long as its between 2 very good players, pvp in cata was fun aswell in mop it was just rerolling the current op char and steamrolling everyone

Key factors to everyone crying about the mark.
1-The Dk jumped around him for 15 mins before the fight, he knew it was there.
2-Even with the mark the Dk almost and sometimes did have 100k health on Merc.
3-If the Dk isn't crying about it than you shouldn't be, just mad cause Merc would take your gold.
If the DK had a 5% Strength buff, it would have been over that time he got Merc down to 547 hps.
That being said, Blood DKs were so ridiculously OP at that point in time, 1v1,, you can make an argument that the agility buff just brought things a tiny bit closer to even at the get go.
Worst blood dk I've ever seen in my life. I wonder if that guy heard for lichborne heals and rune strikes tho cuz most of the time his runic power was full...

This is why I hate rogue's, run away and wait for cd's then pop back out of stealth hit you some more, then rinse repeat etc. Back in WOTLK I could wreck any rogue with a warrior.
Hm, maybe I'm just sour about the lategame PvP in Pandaria. I like it but by fuck it can get on my nerves lol..
Maybe if you caught one out of stealth and got a bleed on them preventing them from getting back to stealth. Besides that warriors were meat for rogues in WOTLK even when prot got buffed towards the end. Prot warriors were the only warriors that would even require my Mut rogue to vanish or shadowmeld to get a second stunlock (tried to always avoid getting a bleed on me for obvious reasons) to finish them off.
And yes I cheated and used some PvE gear to boost my dps so that most classes did not stand a chance. Only thing that did stand a chance versus rogues 1v1 were Prot Pallies and Warlocks setup to duel with port/succubus.

To be completely fair, as a rogue, your main heal is a HoT so you rely on letting that tick for as long as possible. Additionally, the heal (on average) is around 14-15k per second so that is worth letting tick. BUT I do see your argument, rogues can easily keep that heal going forever. But like Brandon Holbert said, you dont wanna just sit there and get slapped constantly. Thats what I do on my rogue :)

2023 nostalgia ....
Key phrase was "if you were have decent". Warrior-druid was countered by good players s1. The few that actually knew how to arena got glad with little to no effort.
The 2nd and 3rd season on the other hand, when pvp started to become more popular and everyone started to know all the tricks of the trade including the warrior/druid teams is when it became a little much. At least season 3-4 more specs/classes became viable.
That's the craziest duel I have ever seen! Can't believe you got so low the whole time :o
The only improvements I find watching all the hotfixes/patches that imho are actually good are, 1) first cc doesn't last for 40 secs, 2) diminishing return, 3) they gave each class at least one interrupt/silence. But these things plus fast cooldowns, endless mana and so on can make a 2v2 match last forever with a healer on both teams! I see arena videos lasting 30 mins each match, 3s' yes they require more strategy.
So, to clear things up, yes the dk was fine with MotW. However, if Merc didn't have it he possibly would have lost. the 5% health buff from MotW gave Merc 7750 more health. Matty would have popped his cheat death around the 6:12 mark. Thus giving Matty the win at 6:27
There's still 40% base pvp resil... so the fact that he has full pve gear doesn't mean that Merc didn't do an amazing job! He's the best rogue out there!

That is the idea, Rogues have control over how they start the battle and they can pick the target and who to stun and kill and sap and blind, but what you have control over is how you react to what the rogue does, if you choose to trinket or pop a defensive cd in order to stop the rogue, what you do is your choice. But do not qq over rogues just because you do not know how to beat them.
did you even play WoW back in this patch? blood dk's healed ~20-30k per death strike, and to top it all of, it gave them a shield that absorbed for 6-8k. Sacrifice minion for ~100k health or more. Rogues and mages were the only classes in game who actually had a chance at killing a well geared blood dk.
Final summation:
Blood DK's had high damage
Blood DK's had high sustainability
Blood DK's had 100% uptime slow
The only reason rogues were viable versing DK's was cause of Recuperate.

It's not a joke. I'm being absolutely serious. There may be someone who has no idea that this is a virus, try it, and there computer crashes and never turns back on. So that was uncalled for.
If the Mercader did not have MotW, it would create a different timeline, and the entire fight would have been different.
If you're letting a warlock chaos bolt on you, then you're doing something wrong...

Recuperate =like 80K heal,
Blood Strike =200K heal + a Shield that absorbs upto 1million damage.

I think giving every class a heal is a good choice, because then all classes can win duels against any class, the pvp is actually pretty balanced and it depends 95% of the skill of the player, not the class. Now I might just be ranting for no reason because I cant tell if you're sarcastic or not, but I really like the way mop pvp works.
You can say that about literally any other class - they all have "constantly the same basics."

Sure the DK made some mistakes in the fight. But the mental fight of dueling for minutes straight no one can play the whole duel perfectly. The Mark of the Wild did make a very small difference but Mercader even asked if the guy wanted a rematch and he said that it was okay. All in all good duel.

If the DK knew how to turn properly and to deathgrip, rogue probably would have lost (rogue is at 500 hp and running away... why wouldn't you deathgrip?!). But still good pressure and self heals from the rogue, blood DKs aren't easy to beat especially as rogue

It's all about, the rotation, how you reforge, and the gear, the DK was in PvE gear which gives no resilience, which allowed merc to stun him easily..
To be fair, this DK had the fucking most op weapon at this time...

You realize this was Cata correct? Recuperate healed about 30-40k over the duration with 5 combo points up. Blood strike with shield was about 20-30k mid season.
