When this was released I was 15 years old. My favorite bands were Cheap Trick, Black Flag and the Circle Jerks. I heard this song and thought it was the most unintentionally hysterical song I'd ever heard. I literally couldn't catch my breath from laughing. However, in a pathetic nostalgia deep dive I played it and as a 55 year old man, I love it!
Band out of Boston. You need to listen to some other tunes they did. I wanna be like Jakie Onassis and what does sex mean to me . Yes sarcastic, but good shit. BTW same age, but was listening to WBCN and WMWM back then.
Overwhelming theme song to my existence! the Story goes it was inspired by empty Heineken bottles placed in woods! Band likewise from Boston, doesn't get any Better than that.
Go back to Boston on Lansdown street at the Club Spit around late 1980 or early 81. I saw this band play there one night for Pat Lyons the owner of the club. They sang the Association hit song Cherish. Their Vocals were SPOT ON! This was one Band from Boston that truly Had much more Mass appeal than most of that era! I was fortunate to have grown up in that era as a kid going to school working part-time could rent an apartment in a not-so-nice section of Boston. But still have a fun time on the weekends!
Actually, they used to do this song as an occasional a capella encore six months or a year before they introduced this version, so I think that's backwards. I remember asking Larry Bangor if they had any plans of turning it into a proper song, and at the time he didn't.
Yes that was exactly the guitar player used on this song a Heineken beer bottle! I saw them play this song at the Rat almost 40 years ago. They were a fantastic band.
I saw this band play this song on Saturday Night Live when I was a kid, and remembered the Heineken bottle intro. Knew nothing about them and forgot about them immediately but that song stuck in my head and pops up occasionally. Today it pops in and I look it up and there it is! :-)
I heard this song once, when it first came out (well, until now, whereupon I'm listening to it a second time), and I *still* remember the melody and lyrics!
I first saw these guys on that old 80's show 'Fridays'. I had a Betamax and recorded their performance on the show, and I remember just playing the tape over and over and giggling, but being amazed!
Love this song! It reminds of winter. I always thought glass pinecones were frozen pinecones. And I thought the percussion on the guitar was made by a dulcimer hammer. Thanks for the comments. Very helpful.
many shows at the old “ living room “ Providence RI kicking back smoking fatties laying across the over stuffed couch’s & recliners w every known bodily fluid on them .. great band / great times
I remember first hearing this around Christmas time in '81 or '2. I thought it was a nice alternative Christmas song and I had to buy the lp. Heh, heh, lp's. Nice upload.
Majestic and incredible. I remember seeing this group on SNL or Fridays, can't remember which, but it was so amazing and fresh. Obscure, but immortal, thanks to the internet and youtube (not a plug, just an observation).
Always Loved this Awesome tune! Heard the Story of it being inspired by empty Heineken bottles placed as ornaments in woods. it just doesn't get better than that!

@@JamesHadfield-qz9rvI heard it was smashing beer bottles under the bleachers at Fenway.

Boston please rise for your national anthem...
Yes 👊🏼
They turned into 2 or 3 different bands, I think? Wasn't one called, The Zulus? It's been so long - granny needs a tincture😆
With a quickness. 🎉
If Boston refuses I most agree to sponsor it all as my role ofe Custodian of 1980s NorCal Punk Rock. #🎉
@@Sdragnastyyes The Zulus and they were awesome
The best song about an ice storm covering the trees.
Another classic from them was I want to be Jackie Onassis. The best
Lest we forget "butt fuck"
Haven't heard this song since the days of Laquidara, Shelton, and Parenteau ("DJs" who worked WBCN-FM in Bahstin)
me too!!! I think of it every Xmas because of those guys!!! I miss 'BCN!!!
Oedipus!!!
I always think of WFNX- Lynn/Boston when I hear this song. Never could find it until the magic of the internet!
As a Californian I have a special appreciation fah Beloved Bahston. Strong beautiful women, yah.
Are you sure it wasn't Glasscock?
This reminds me of getting high and shoveling snow in NH. January 1982
In case nobody else says this, the "tapping" guitar sound is a Heineken bottle. That's what inspired "glass pinecones."
Actually, they used to do this song as an occasional a capella encore six months or a year before they introduced this version, so I think that's backwards. I remember asking Larry Bangor if they had any plans of turning it into a proper song, and at the time he didn't.
Wow.

Another video shows a Bud Light bottle being used....
I thought it was about the bottles broken outside Fenway?

I haven't heard this since 1982. Thank you! Never thought I'd hear it again.
fantatstic song from a legendary Boston band. i was privileged to see them live.
I play this song at least 10 times ....just love it
As intriguing today as it was 40 years ago.
One of my favorite Christmas songs of all time!
Still all time greatest song ever written.
I heard this song once, when it first came out (well, until now, whereupon I'm listening to it a second time), and I *still* remember the melody and lyrics!
The greatest song ever recorded. Fight me.
Forgot about this album - I think I still have vinyl up in loft somewhere.
Huge for me when it came out! I turned friends on to it! arty, surreal, lyrical, a bit punkish and slightly absurd which I love!!
Not sure why I thought of this song today but it was an absolute favorite of mine 👍👍👍👍🌺🌺
Fenway Park baby !!!!
I first saw these guys on that old 80's show 'Fridays'. I had a Betamax and recorded their performance on the show, and I remember just playing the tape over and over and giggling, but being amazed!
i like all kinds of tunes, this is some they would play on UNH in the 80's. it looks like a tribute to the tubes.
This song is about BEER BOTTLES. How clever,WBCN. .... RIP!! TANK on sports....geez.miss those days !:)
Tankletoes!! I miss those guys but Carter is the man now.
Love this song! It reminds of winter. I always thought glass pinecones were frozen pinecones. And I thought the percussion on the guitar was made by a dulcimer hammer. Thanks for the comments. Very helpful.

I have not been able to remaster from the vinyl. This sounds great. Thank you....
♫ ♪ My all time favorite Christmas song. ♫ ♪ TY for having it..
No one ever believed me when I told about this song in 1989.
This song is about decorating a christmas tree with budweiser bottles.
Sets off a tingle in my jingle!
Always Loved this Awesome tune! Heard the Story of it being inspired by empty Heineken bottles placed as ornaments in woods. it just doesn't get better than that!

The Rat
I grew up with my mom singing this
Love this song!
Nice tune.
I always thought glass pinecones were empty beer bottles
Because that's what they are.
Oh! There's someone listening to this awesome music in 2019!!!
Gr33ts from the Netherlands 🇳🇱!!!
I thought the glass pinecones were sticky buds sparkling in the moonlight; a whole field of them.
@@karenhorton4062 Also good!
Greatest song ever!
I once heard this on a progressive rock station back in the 80s.
this song refers to the Fenway area in Boston
Not sure why this song crossed my mind, but I remember hating it when it came out. Used to hear it on WUSM all the time.
Oh nooo... Such a strong word! lol ... I must have at least one olde cassette with this song on it and the USM station tag LOL...
le gusto mucho.
Ah, the diversity of 70s & 80s era Boston bands.
whyyyy isn’t this on Spotify
still unavailable on iTunes . . . . pity.
Any idea where you can buy this cd or at least the single song?? I cant find it anywhere except on vinyl!
