To all the people saying they wouldn't buy a SCAR because an AR10 is cheaper, you're comparing apples to oranges. No shit a budget AR10 from Aero Precision or whatever brand you go to is cheaper. Do you make the same comparison when talking about a KAC M110/SR-25? No, most people ignore that part. Compare the SCAR to other military AR10s that are in it's class. Noveske N6, GA Precision GAP-10, KAC SR-25, LMT MWS, PWS MK216, HK 417/G-28/M110-A1, Sig 716. Those are all rifles that serve the same purpose and have seen real world military use in combat, and the SCAR-17 in it's DMR configuration is either equal to or cheaper than half of them, yet has added capabilities like being lighter, foldable, easily swapping barrels/furniture, etc.
@@practicepractice5719 Im just so sick of clowns bitching about the SCAR being "too expensive" and then put their PSA AR10 on a pedestal despite being a budget rifle, and then NEVER talking about the fact KAC guns and Noveskes are way more expensive than the SCAR while doing less

Lucas gives out some of the most logical and well thought out advice on the internet period. If our country was full of Americans with his mentality towards firearms and the second amendment we would never be in fear of losing our liberties and would probably be able to stroll into your local Walmart and pick up cans and full autos and ammo lol. Which would be great
Yea, cause learning firearm discipline in classes or on youtube stops crazy people from existing! Also, how are you in danger of losing your "liberty"? You mean losing the right to buy a gun? or losing the right to buy ANY gun you want instantly? Im honestly curious. thanks
@@SoakDisko, the liberty to buy what I want, without government knowledge, both of which are "illegal"; however, the fact that the government has made that "illegal" infringes upon our rights already. Because the second amendment was created to protect the first, and to defend this country and it's people from a tyrannical, unjust government, which is exactly what is happening right now. The federal government holds too much power, if we are not careful, it will only get more powerful to the point it's almost impossible to stop. Plus the government wouldn't pass any of the background checks they ask us to pass. This tells me that they aren't "good" they only want to know who has guns so that they can take them away when the time comes.

I picked mine up in 2011 while on emergency leave, even went so far as hunting down the SCAR-H AAC suppressor for a total match to the team guns back in Afghanistan. I has done everything I have asked of it. I did finally add the Timney drop in trigger just a week ago...
These used to mainly sit around in our arms room unused. Running them suppressed, was like carrying around a damn Kentucky long rifle, and it was hard to get UTM bolts for them for qualifying dry runs in shoot houses, plus the reciprocating charging handle was kind of a nightmare
Hmmm, 5SFG and Bat Boys don't seem to share your sentiment. Maybe your unit should have actually attended the familiarization and indoc for the new platform?
i think seeing Lucas fumble the rifle is very important to see because it greatly amplifies the fact that repetition is SO IMPORTANT for becoming efficient with your platform, we see how hes an absolute MACHINE when it comes to pistols and the ar platform, you can visually see the difference with the scar, and if he shot it more, hed be just as proficient with the scar as he is with an ar (not saying that hes bad with the scar by any means)
I have several m1a's and I love them. Used to compete with them when I shot some accross the course stuff. Even deployed with a chassis'd m14 as one of the companies DMR's overseas. For a range toy/positional shooting rifle they are great. If you want to train to fight, get a modern rifle. Optic mounting is a pain, ergos aren't great for cqb work, and it's heavy. Getting an m14 pattern rifle fully kitted (example: see the sage chassis) is going to cost as much (or more) than just buying an ar10 or SCAR17. Try finding a couple buddies who already have what you are considering, and run some drills on each platform. The m1a is a great rifle, but you are going to be really struggling to keep up with a scar/ar10.
Love your PfP and yes. Got my Scar awhile ago. Though I don't go shooting as much due to my current situation to save money and bullets, I do not regret it.
I applied this logic to optics. I bought different dots, prisms, and and magnifiers until finally settling on a acog. I don’t really regret since I got to try many things on different uppers and learn what I like and made sense. A red dot on my 20” upper was goofy.
@@ryancoffee339 I have an ACOG on my 17 as well. Went from an Eotech which was fantastic to 100 yds. But the ACOG is crystal clear and fast on target. One of my friends wants me to Put a budget vortex on my SCAR. He doesn’t understand quality performs, and lasts. I’m sticking with my Trijicon!
Awesome video. I have loved the scar platform for years. The 17 is very reliable, very lightweight, and even the recoil impulse is very manageable. What I can say is, the angled charging handle is a must for those of us that don’t have the new NRCH version. With the new version coming out, the rifle will be even softer recoiling. Maybe it’s time for a 6.5 Scar 20 for me next?
I have the NRCH and thought the same thing about optics. I put an EOTech on it and ended up having bloody knuckles. The NRCH comes with ambi charging that you can swap. I put the angled one on the right side and the straight one on the left. This allows me to still charge it like I do with my left hand, but at the same time during reloads I can do the ak style with the charging handle forward.
@@squidy4082 AR-10 is typically heavier depending on the barrel length and because of the non standard parts used in each company that makes an AR-10, it can be more finicky. That's why an SR-25 is not the same as the later M110A1 even though they are both "AR-10" designs. Also it depends on which company makes the barrel, which may not be as accurate as another. From what it's been advertised, the SCAR is a more mass produced weapon vs specific AR-10s that the military has been using that were built and then specifically selected.
One thing I learned watching a lot of really good distance shooters is when you're shooting off of a bag or bipod you want to try to interact with the gun as little as possible. Meaning not holding the handguard and letting the gun just rest on the bag. And if the gun has a pistol grip to move your thumb to the same side as the rest of your hand for your firing hand. Hope this helps you like it helped me. Loved the video and I think with armor becoming more common we do need to start considering using a higher power rifle. Also loved your point on owning 10 cheap ARs and no DMR.

Bought a 7 lug bolt SCAR-17S in 2013 and have had 6 malfunctions in 11,000rds using mostly cheapo milsurp. It still holds 1.36moa with 168gr Fiocchi Exacta. I switched out to an aluminum SR25 lower in 2016 because my son and best friend are running LR308 variants and I still have 99.99% reliability. I started with an SWFA 10x42 fixed scope and then a 1-6x24 Gen II-E Razor and now a Primary Arms PLX 1-8x24 ACSS M8 Compact. After owning an SEI Crazy Horse M14 a KAC SR25 Carbine and an HK91 I can honestly say this is the winner of my 40,000rd/30 year long 7.62x51mm "Pepsi Challenge" MBR/DMR taste test. It just runs and runs and never throws me any curve balls as long as I torqued and loctited all of my screws properly out to 650m.
I really like the beginning of the video, where Lucas highlights the SCAR 17's main advantages as a battle rifle. Battle rifles, like this, or the M&P 10 have a place on the modern battlefield.
I've owned a SCAR17 for quite a few years, easily over 2k rounds through it........one thing of note, I have yet to EVER have a malfunction of any kind. AR10's I've had? I could never get close to that number......tuning, ammo they didn't like etc.... The SCAR just eats it all.

There was an incident where a crazed killer was shooting into an apartment building and a dude took out a bolt action rifle, most likely in .308 and took him out. That alone is reason enough to justify owning a .308 for defense.

Heard a lot of good things about the FN SCAR-17. I'm just satisfied with my Armalite AR-10-T for all targets to 1000 yards. Using .308-win, 175-grain, match ammo. The "T" designation shows a match grade barrel from Lothar-Walther barrel from the factory. A 24", full bull contour with target crown muzzle. Made from LD-50 stainless steel. This AR-10-T is no longer stock as from the Armalite factory. The first upgrade was to install the gen-2 bolt release to use the type-B, gen-2 Armalite magazines. Based on M-14 size magazine. Not compatible with the Knight Armament SR-25 magazine. SR-25 magazines are designated as type-A, gen-1 magazines. The type-B magazines are a slimmer magazine. The type-B, gen-1 Armalite mags were a reaction to that now defunct Clinton Gun Ban of 1994. The type-B, gen-1 mags sucked beyond belief. The much better type-B, gen-2 are far better. Lots of precision upgrades. Making the total unloaded weight 14.7-lbs, scope included. My difficulty is finding shooting ranges longer than 200 yards. Interesting show today. If I was in the market I would consider the FN SCAR-17.
I really enjoyed this video. Keep up the great work! Would love to see more of these longer, in-depth overviews on platforms like this and what you did with the Ukrainian Sig MCX setup.
Lucas i just want to say god bless you for you being BRUTALLY HONEST and having the courage to say these certain things out loud given the fact you have so much influence and we know how they may treat you. We love you fellow patriot.
I understand it’s expensive and may not be worth the money but it’s still better than most if not all AR platforms. At least to me. The Scar 17 heavy is the one I like. The light version is cool too but I like the heavy. That at the XCR-M the version below the full length one. Not the short barrel one though.
It’s really amazing seeing how Lucas has grown over the years. His demeanor and how he carries himself and speaks. He’s become a very admirable man- not that he wasn’t before- but if you’re not growing, you’re dead, so, glad Lucas is living.
For everyone talking about scar prices. Just buy used. I got my 17 for $2750 with 6 mags. Only had 75 rds through it. You would really have to search for a 762 scar with more than 1000 rounds through it. Few have the budget and motivation to actually shoot it that much. I would venture to guess most used scars will have between 250-600 rounds though it which frankly is just breaking it in.
Night vision clip on that's "kind of expensive," a L3 PVS-24-LR is $12,500. Its incredible how deep the rabbit hole can go, there's a money pit in every hobby.
I’d love to see a comparison between a REPR and the SCAR 17. Obviously they’re not quite apples to apples but it would be an interesting comparison as far as distance shooting.
I don’t ever comment on social media or other RUclips bullshit, but this intro… great job Lucas and team. Almost as awesome as Grand Thumb.. keep it up.
💯 Absolutely get a scar17! I love the ugg boot stock! That's what makes this unique 👌. Also, so happy my lgs had one in stock so I put it on layaway lol
This isn’t going to be a popular opinion. It has been a couple year transition and one I’m surprised I have made: I’ve gone all in on the 7.62 NATO cartridge. If I could only keep one rifle, it would be my 16” lightweight .308 with an LPVO. I live in the boonies and often find myself needing some “umph” beyond 300 yards. This rifle makes it easy. Now I know 7.62 as a “primary” weapon may seem overkill, unnecessary, and even just difficult. But in all honesty, if the military is transitioning to an “AR-10 style” weapon with larger rounds, limited capacity, how much more sense does it make in a rural setting? Maybe if I had a lot more money into my 5.56 rifles, I could justify them more. But I have over $2500 into a single .308 rifle, and I trust it much more than my “budget” AR-15s to carry me in a pinch
@@coltonjohnson6302 the gun may make things more difficult in the wrong situation though. But I feel confident with it. I got my split times and reloads up fairly close to my 5.56. I also shoot 7.62 fairly exclusively 😬, pretty hard on the wallet.
Good to see longer range get mentioned for 2A activities. Only thing I'd say is don't put much stock in m80 ball for distance. Match grade ammo exists for a reason, the deviation of velocity between bullets can ruin your day at distance. MOA groups at 100 aren't taking into account a high standard deviation of velocity which can take your 700 yard 7" groups out to a vertical line.
Honestly… I’m upset that Lucas is calling the SCAR 17 a DMR… everyone that owns or has put many rounds thru a SCAR 17 knows that it’s a battle-rifle, only a SCAR 20 can take the title of DMR. One would have to modify a SCAR 17 to meet official DMR status.
I have built out several ARs for different purposes revolving what the 2A is for. I have a bunch of fun ARs from movies or just trying new parts. The 'fun' ones could easily be used to arm friends and family effectively. I do need a 308 rifle for reaching out... Time for a new gun!
Honestly I gave this video a thumbs up two seconds in I don't watch videos on scars to be talked into or out of them I really just watch them because I love them.
I built an ar10 from an aero enhanced kit and used all premium parts. I’ll say it ended up costing almost as much as a scar17 and it’s heavy, but it has ran flawlessly (even with soft tip hunting loads) and I’m happy with it
My two cents, the average shooter that is either new or new to long distance is going to have a tough time out shooting the potential of 556, for a little while anyways. Put a scope on a quality 16+ barrel AR and spend the $2500 difference on ammo and training.
VERY WELL SAID SIR!!!!💥......man, you said everything true.....AND.....they should do everything you said , AND just go buy a very cheap, very accurate $500 hunting rifle in 6.5 CM or .300 WM, or something...and do long range training for a TENTH of the cost(even withthe addition of quality expensive glass)
I love the .308. I dont have a scar, but my HK MR308 makes my heart feel warm too :-) And i love to see ur vids too !! Great weapon handling and shooting. greets from ol germany
As he literally said in the video: Any descent AR-10 is gonna run you about the same amount of money. Of course, you can grab a poverty pony gun, but good luck shooting flat with that at 800 meters (and at sub-MoA accuracy). Not to mention, that cheap AR-10 is going to be about one to two pounds heavier then a SCAR right out of the box.
@@RexSpec yea bro don't get me wrong I own a Psa Ar10 it’s good for the money but I’m trying to see how far I can take it out to right now 1moa at 100 maybe less so imagine at 876 yards but let’s be real you will not shoot out that far hunting in tn maybe 300
The 2A isn't for hunting or even self defense. Thank you for saying that. But I will say on having "10" of the same platform is important for the sake of spare parts. I love the scar but a AR-10 will do everything you're bringing to our attention.
Comparison of Scar and AR10 out of the box isn’t a realistic comparison. Weight and length are two aspects I would look at before choosing a DMR. A closer comparison against a Scar17 isn’t an AR10, it would be closer to an AR 15 platform that utilizes 308/7.62…”POF Revolution”… but then again you sacrifice length, if that’s even an issue without crawling down the SBR/form 1 rabbit hole.. I currently feel the AR10 is more of a sniper platform after owning both the AR10 and 17s.
After a year of owning and shooting the SCAR 17 I can definitely say it’s getting really gross eating the free Heinz Sweet Relish from Circle K and nacho cheese from the dispenser, off of napkins. I’ve fought for my life twice in the last hour with 8 Rabid Cats in an alleyway in search for Real Estate, can’t afford ammo anymore, my SCAR 17 is more of a baseball bat/waifu at this point and my mental health is deteriorating, I don’t even know where I’m supposed to get my mail anymore.
@@joshdaniel8746 While true, a barrel can last 10k + rounds, if someone can afford to put that many rounds downrange after buying and kitting out a scar, they can probably afford a spare barrel lol
Two is one and one is none. "Likely won't break" is not a plan I would endorse. Everything breaks (if you actually use it). SCAR parts are already expensive and hard to find. Is that ever going to be "better"? Likely not...

Agree! Never going to argue with more guns but when most are collecting dusk... pointless. Been saving up for either scar or m1a.
M1a socom is so cool, and way cheaper lol

I applied this logic to optics. I bought different dots, prisms, and and magnifiers until finally settling on a acog. I don’t really regret since I got to try many things on different uppers and learn what I like and made sense. A red dot on my 20” upper was goofy.

Those last videos (DD and SCAR) are gold, keep on making us grow !

Don’t know why people just use an ar10
@@squidy4082 AR-10 is typically heavier depending on the barrel length and because of the non standard parts used in each company that makes an AR-10, it can be more finicky. That's why an SR-25 is not the same as the later M110A1 even though they are both "AR-10" designs. Also it depends on which company makes the barrel, which may not be as accurate as another. From what it's been advertised, the SCAR is a more mass produced weapon vs specific AR-10s that the military has been using that were built and then specifically selected.
Ammo cost more than the gun.
I joined the military without ever owning a gun, I got stationed in Japan and have been watching your videos since. These videos get me so excited to hop into the gun game when I get back to the states. MERICAAA!!

I understand it’s expensive and may not be worth the money but it’s still better than most if not all AR platforms. At least to me. The Scar 17 heavy is the one I like. The light version is cool too but I like the heavy. That at the XCR-M the version below the full length one. Not the short barrel one though.
Is it just lighter materials with the non heavy version or what? What's the difference between them other than weight?
It’s really amazing seeing how Lucas has grown over the years. His demeanor and how he carries himself and speaks. He’s become a very admirable man- not that he wasn’t before- but if you’re not growing, you’re dead, so, glad Lucas is living.

Love my Scar 17 as well, definitely doing the gun its service
As a city dweller, an m1 garand with a red dot is as close as I’ll get to a dmr. Plus they’re not heavily regulated like ARs where I am.

I can’t believe Lucas killed administrative results and his family
But I have over $2500 into a single .308 rifle, and I trust it much more than my “budget” AR-15s to carry me in a pinch
it’s not the gun, its the guy pulling the trigger
“IEDs on the end of your gun” 🤣🤣🤣
I want to see Lucas run this same course of fire with a POF Revolution DI.
First this guy is a good shooter. I envy the us for their ability to have such a variation in firearms. And that anyone can buy them.
By the way, another platform I had for a battle rifle as an alternative to a scar is the galil ace in 308. I highly recommend that rifle
