    This video series features the complete restoration of a 1972 CL350 Honda Scrambler motorcycle. The videos should help anyone whether working on a cafe racer build or a full-on original restoration. I'm definitely not an expert so please refer to your manuals for proper disassembly and assembly instructions. Please leave comments if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help answer questions if I can confidently provide solutions. Again, I'm not a professional. This is my 2nd Honda motorcycle restoration and I'm learning every single day. I'd love to hear your tips if you have better ways to do things. I hope you find the series useful and entertaining. I strive to show as much detail as possible so that the videos can be used as not only a how-to resource but also a reference for the placement and original set up of parts and systems.
    If you don't have one already please get a manual for your specific project. There are many available online for download for free.
    Common Motor Collective, from which I source many of my replacement parts, has a fantastic resource on their website: bit.ly/CBManuals

    Keep on wrenching, Friends!

    Just did this yesterday and it looks fantastic. I never knew this method existed but with some patience it's almost factory perfect.

      One big heavy coat. Don’t tip it! Let it dry. You could also clear it a week later. I didn’t. Still looks good.

    what did you use to remove the old paint on the badges? I've soaked mine in mineral spirits for 30 minutes so far and it's not softening up

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 года назад +2

      It actually cracked right off by using a dental pick. Really brittle paint. I just poked and pulled at it and big chunks would fall right off. I didn’t use anything other than the dental pick.

    • @at_offthegrid
      @at_offthegrid 4 года назад

      Brian Matson yeah me too but my paint seems to be holding up a lot better. I just tried boiling it in baking soda and water and only a few chunks came off and I also managed to strip the shine off the aluminum parts (oops). I might have to resort to paint stripper?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 года назад

      Or can you just scuff up and paint over it? I’d be concerned what stripper would do. Metal badges would be ok. But plastic I’d be hesitant.

    • @at_offthegrid
      @at_offthegrid 4 года назад

      Brian Matson I thought about it but it looks like it was painted over before so the paint is pretty thick so it wouldn’t have that nice even layer of paint unless I clean up well. I believe my badges are aluminum like yours?

    • @KeepOnWrenching

      Make sure you clean the surface. Alcohol pad or something similar. Might be caused by some residue.

      @@KeepOnWrenching Thank you very much. If it's ok, I have another question for you. I am painting the Quattro emblem on an Audi. The original is chrome with black recessed letters. My grandson wants black with red letters. I plan on using your advice about the syringe for the letters but the black will be going around the letters. I'm trying to think of something I can fill the letter recesses with that I could paint over with black and when completely dry I can pull out what's in the recesses and use the syringe for the red. Do you think I could squirt some thinned Elmers glue into the letter recesses and let dry? Will I be able to pull it out easily? Sorry for the length on this. I'm trying to do an awesome job for the best grandson in the world.

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  3 года назад +1

      This would take some experimentation. Couple ideas: paint the not recess first or use Vaseline in the painted letters. That would wipe right out when done. I’d definitely test, test, test. I think the glue might be a little much.
