    This is what I've been calling "The Big Blue 5", which is a Seiko SRPB89K1. Part of Seiko's budget Seiko 5 line. Although unlike many other Seiko 5s, this has a newer movement. The 4R35B adds hacking and hand winding.
    A little on the larger side at 43.3mm, and while this looks like a diver, it's more of a dive style watch with 100m WR.

    Just wanted to mention that on some of the video the date is between 3 and 4 as I just happened to be filming this close to midnight. I should of advanced it, but it was late and I didn't notice at the time. 😎

    What a refreshing change, a diver (or dive style) that isn't a microbrand. I love Seiko 5's in general. Particularly the smaller dressier ones (the movement really doesn't bother me). Although I like the look of this one, I do think it's a bit too big, and I personally think it's an easy choice to go for the Orient Ray2/Mako2 for the price. I do also completely agree 100m WR is sufficient for most people's use of a watch. However more does seem more desirable. Great review. Enjoy the ❄️ Monster ⌚

    Great vid and review as usual. I love the stunning blue, but I feel very much, like some others have commented, that it is a bit bland. The dial just doesn't work for me. I recently purchased an Orient Ray II, and definitely prefer not just the the dial layout and details, but the smaller size. The Orient is a natural on my wrist. That said, I really enjoy my Seikos (especially the Pepsi Urchin), but this one just isn't for me. Looking forward to more of your vids!

    I love the dial/bezel of this Seiko Big Blue 5. I have an Orient Blue Ray 11 and to be honest if the pictures in your video accurately represent the color of the blue dial, I think I like the Seiko Big Blue 5’s dial better than my Blue Ray 11. What are your thoughts? I’m curious as to why Seiko decided to omit the day window? Perhaps space limitations. I think your images depicted a single digit date. I’m wondering if double digit dates seem cramped for space within the date window? As usual, you cover all the bases in your review, since you answered all my other potential questions. Thanks for taking the time to put together this very nice production. The narrative, content, and images are all excellent quality. Great job!

    Very strong review as always and great photography work. You do know how to make a watch look GREAT.
    I love the look of this Seiko 5 but I was wondering, what are your thoughts on how it compares to the Invicta Pro Diver Automatic 9094OB? The Invicta can't hold a candle to the Sieko 5 in terms of illumination however, the blue bezel and face, 40 mm case, crown guards, screw down crown , 200 meter WR, and Seiko NH35a movement makes the Invicta a real alternative. Ok ... there is the "INVICTA" engraved on the side of the case but as you noted in your review, “An Infamous Shade of Blue: Invicta Pro Diver Review (9094OB)" no one can see that while its on your wrist. Lastly, with the Invicta you get all the aforementioned goodies for about ½ the price of the Seiko 5.
    I would love to see a head to head between the Seiko and Invicta. If you can fit that match up into your schedule it would be great. Again, these are just may thoughts, I have the baby Orange and Ice Monster S5s and I love them both but I just wondered what your thoughts are on the Invicta Auto 9094OB compared to the Seiko SRPB89K1. Food for thought... Cheers!!!

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 лет назад

      Hmmm good question. The big difference is going to be size and lume. If this was shrunk down to 41mm, then it would be very similar to an Orient Ray II, perhaps with better lume. So the pros and cons would be similar to a Ray II vs a Pro diver.
      Either way, I think the finishing of the case and bezel will be better on the Seiko and Orient. Yet the bigger difference would be the shade of blue. Depending on the light the pro diver almost seems to have a slight purplish shade to it. While the Orient and this Seiko are more of a Royal blue color. So that would more depend on what you prefer.
      A matchup would be interesting, but I'm not sure I'll have the time. At least not for the next few months. I'll write it down and see in a bit.
      Although your right about the price. Not much can touch the Invicta pro divers for value. Maybe a few of the Chinese brands.

    Great video. I agree with the seconds hand too, I believe an all red seconds hand like the Seiko srpb15 or srpb21 which also have that nice blue dial would have worked better. Check those out if you have a minute, another good Seiko 5 with turtle case and 4 R movement. They have a bit of a Hamilton PanEurop look to them. I picked one up recently, and the blue dial really pops like this watch. B.

    • @RelativeTime

    Thanks for another perfect review. I have mixed feelings about this Seiko 5. Is it a true Seiko 5, without a day wheel? It strikes me as a little boring too. I think it is not the dial, but the bazel that makes it boring. In my opinion It can't compete with the quality of its nephews , the Orient Mako and Ray II.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 лет назад

      If I remember correctly. it's called Seiko 5 because of 5 key features. One of which was a day/date. So in some ways it's not really a Seiko 5. At least not from the traditional sense.

    The dial looks a wee bit sparse to me, probably because it's the size of a pocket watch. Still, there's no arguing with the quality of that sunburst, something at which Seiko have excelled for years. On the whole I have to agree that the Ice Monster is the pick of those three on grounds of distinctiveness without being as ineffably strange as the Bottle Cap, but none of them will be displacing the Russian Clunker in my affections.

    I don’t think it has solid links bracelet. I have a SRPB513 that has what I think it’s identical bracelet, and it doesn’t actually have solid links they are just made to look solid but you can see the welding lines on links sides. I think this watch looks really good but for sure the Ray is a better option.

      I’d be curious. Mine is definitely hollow (but made to look like solid) and from the look of it (and the fact that my watch belongs basically to the same Seiko 5 series) your bracelet seems identical. I actually modified it and I wear it on the SKX009 and it looks fantastic. I don’t really mind the build because it is light and comfortable, and I’m not banging the watch on anything 😀

    It says 100 meters of water resistance but without the screw down crown could you swim with it?

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 лет назад

      Short answer is yes. Longer answer is a bit more complicated, and I'm not an expert so bear that in mind.
      From what I've read in the past, a screw down crown by itself keeps water out at lower pressure, but once you get some depth it's still relying on an internal gasket. The screw down part is more about keeping it secured rather then being pulled out.
      If you think about it most crystal's are secured with just a very tight fitting gasket as well. Although your not usually pulling it out or rotating it.
      Personally I have no problem getting a watch without a screw down crown wet, and the occasional swim. Yet if it's something I'm regularly taking into water I would prefer a screw down crown. Just for piece of mind.

    Although it's a nice watch, to me, it's a bit boring. Somehow it just fails to capture me and make me want it. Unlike, let's say, my Helm Khuraburi and Komodo. Or, staying with Seiko: the bottle cap...

      Some have pointed out that it looks a little black bay like. I didn't notice that before, but otherwise your right. Nothing really special, or distinct. Between the Khuraburi and the Komodo, which do you like better? So far I like the komodo, love the dial. It is a bit tall though, although I think that's expected. Seems to built like a a tank, or a submarine.

      @@RelativeTime tough choice. I think the Komodo is more for edc as it also has a date. But the Khuraburi is more distinct. I knew you were going to say that about the height, given some remarks you had in recent videos about liking flatter watches 😀 apart from the height, the size of the Komodo is actually pretty perfect for me. And I tend to like a bit oversized anyway. Love the weight and feel of both watches. The clasp on the bracelet is a miss in my book. That is way too big..

      I was a little concerned about the height, but after wearing it a while. Not a big deal. At least until you try to put it on a thicker nato. Then I think it starts to be too tall, and feel a little top heavy.
      The bracelet and clasp are very well made, but maybe over engineered. I think it's a perfect diver for someone that does dive, and a great summer watch from everyone else. The height and bracelet are going to make it a little tough to wear in winter when trying to layer a sweater and a jacket.
      Absolutely love the white dial and powder blue indices though. Already tested the lume, easily held it's own against the Ice monster and a turtle.

      @@RelativeTime for sure! It's a lume "monster" (no pun intended). I tried on one of my NATO straps as well, but it wears way better on a Zulu strap indeed. Now I can't wait to get my hands on a Vanuatu to complete the trio...

    Those cheap "dive style" watches would be far better if the bezel didn't look so cheap. I can live with the limited water resistance. But the absence of the lume pit on the bezel, screams cheapness. It's maybe nothing for someone unfamiliar with dive watches. But for those who love and care, it's a huge cheap eyesore. If you can't afford a real dive watch, just don't buy one at all.

      Your comment got me thinking if I could remember any real divers without a lume pip. Other then Vostok (which is a thing to itself), the only other divers that don’t have a pip, have a fully lined bezel. So you have a point.

    Why am I the 222th like with 2 thumbs down? 222 is manifestation angel number means manifesting. I am Double Aquarius (Sun & Moon) means Double Blue and Red as Aries Ascendant.
