Did you know a bear does not growl? They make many other sounds, like moans, whines, clacking their teeth. They may also stomp their feet or bluff charge. See and hear bears talk! The mosquito is scaring me. I would be so focused on the mosquito and swatting at it that the bear would probably attack me, another reason to be afraid of mosquitoes.

But an aggressive bear is uneasy and nervous. In fact that is virtually the only reason that a bear becomes aggressive in 99% of the time. So it is safe to assume that a nervous bear is potentially aggresive.
Reminds me when people say "my pitbull is a scaredy cat, he would never bite anyone". And I'd say "Well no mam, your rrstrained dog is a potential fear biter growling at me from 5 feet away".

Good explanation Mike, I have captured numerous bears for research purposes and although most exhibit these behaviours when first approached, all just want to get away as quickly as possible once the anesthetic has worn off.

This is amazing and very helpful information. We all have the wrong idea regarding the behavior of bears because of Hollywood and its desire for sensationalism. I find it inexcusable that we have gone for so long without being educated about bears and their attempt to communicate while so many of us behave very foolishly and are terrified of being attacked. I didn’t hear a single growl throughout this video. Amazing. How many of us actually know that bears do not growl? Yet, they growl and behave viciously in movies and television programs. I think that teaching about the wild animals in our areas should begin at childhood, right in public and private schools, and home studied children. It’s unconscionable that our education of animals seems so unimportant to those who make these decisions in education. If we are to be good stewards of our environment, should that not include an education about our animals?

The black bears are watching a video about how when a human shoots at you they're nervous, *they're* too close to you, think you behave like a grizzly bear, and recognize the disparity of your great power. They're just scared. For additional entertainment, go ahead and meow at the people. Make them laugh. Please submit this footage to America's Funniest Home Videos.

Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I love animals and I hate it when animals get killed because of humans ignorance or lack of respect or care. I had a bear encounter once and some other people came along the same encounter but they were way to close, I kept thinking you stupid people your way to close then they finally got the hint when the bear suddenly in the blink of an eye quickly moved towards them and they backed off. Thanks again for sharing. ❤❤❤

thank you for this amazing, and very useful info for people who deal with wild animals ! like me, living in the centra Europe with brown bears incidence... So this was black bears bevaviour... well, and how about brown bear (grizzly in the North America) ? Do you think they too have similar behaviour ? As grizzlies are a bit bigger, so who knows ... I have never heard of clacking the teeth in our European brown bears (when experienced bear biologists informing), but perhaps only i have not enough information.

If a bear is killed by a human, it's always the human's fault. It's so unfortunate that humans aren't always kind and intelligent as they could be. Thank you for the work that you do. It's very educational.

You're so wrong it's not even funny. I was nearly attacked, as it ran full speed from a long distance. No bluff, the rear feet were digging into the ground and it came at me full speed. I killed it, and I would do it again if I had to. I'm not about to wait around and ask questions. I've been face to face with several bears, and this one was not having any.

@@samsanxiety321 black bears. The 2020 season I saw 23 different black bears. I found myself on top of a den without realizing it. The bear came out shortly after I walked away, it walked up to my truck and then I ran after it because I had dogs in the truck. I was a couple hundred yards away at that point. Had one staring while I was staring, telling myself that looks like a bears ear, then it flickered and both me and the bear went our separate ways, one in the dark without a flashlight, another that ran over 100 yards to get at me, and the rest were just off in the distance. Two things I contribute this odd season to. This was in Shasta county CA. First, the fires were big and out of control which probably drove a lot of these bears into a more condensed area. Second, I had a new body wash that smelled like charcoal and watermint. Watermint is one of those plants bears love, and charcoal... Well there were plenty of reasons charcoal didn't bother any animal. The only reason I mention this is because I've never encountered bears that were so curious and that was the only thing different for me that season. I guess there are three things. After nearly being attacked I dove down black bear rabbit holes and learned at much as I could possibly learn without trying a degree. I started to recognize habitat better, the small signs that usually get missed, where they like to hide when people are nearby, how they act etc. It took me the whole season to get comfortable being near any kind of brush, and now bears don't even get me nervous. If you watch the body language you can tell (mostly), just like with a dog, whether it's going to be an aggressive charge, bluff charge or just a bear walking by with curiosity. They'll usually run away as soon as they can.

    • @maddawgnoll

@@samsanxiety321 The bear in the dark was the closest I've been to one like that. Maybe 5 feet. It continues to stalk me until daylight then ran. Busted through the forest like a freight train carving is own path. It was a big bear, and that encounter I believe scares me more than the one that tried to get me.
