It just dawned on me. Your party is taking on a freaking war machine made during the peak of human progress with swords and spears and you win not just because videogames, but because the labyrinth is so ridiculously dangerous that surviving it has actually prepared the group for a combat encounter this stacked against them.
Shows that superior force of arms means little against those with superior force of will. M.I.K.E. was just a machine trying to fulfill its purpose, and it was pitted against hardened adventurers who struggle to survive each and every day
I loved the set-up to this whole section: you only get so many turns to reach him, and then when you do, this music starts up and you realize "oh, crap, the counter is *still* running down." Cue the adrenaline rush. That was awesome.
An dire situation, only augmented by the scenario: In order to save the world, one girl has to put her faith in a solution that is untested and may not work at all. And, through that, fight the machinations of the one touchstone to her old life to do so.
"Hostile actions recognized. Final defesive mechianism authorized, Comencing hostillitis." -M.I.K.E. He was the first enemy, of all games, that i don't want to fight. And i'm someone who prefers a frontal assault. But this was different he was a Machine with more feelings than the most humans. And a bit too sympathic for an enemy. So "Decisive" is fiting for this, because he wanted to end his mission at any cost, i respect that.
+Victor S. Court I don't want to sound like all these annoying Undertale fanboys, but... You should play Undertale. Every Boss here is enemy that you don't want to fight... no, Every ENEMY here is someone you don't want to fight!
This boss was hell, but the hell I enjoyed, because of that time limit. I have no idea how many times I lost when it had a mere fraction of It's helath left as it ticked down to zero. Good memories.
Never before had I faced a machine with so much emotion. Sure, M.I.K.E. was just a program, but he was Ricky's only friend before she entered her coma. For him to be so blind up to the point of having to fight to the death with her was insane. This battle was easily the best part of the game for me.
CrimsonEbonyTears well he was programmed to full fill his duty but i get what you mean it was somthing else he was no villain i would slaughter without a second thought, he was someone i did not wished to fight
After having played through both this game and EO IV, I can safely say that I'm buying the next game - and 90% of that purchase has to do with the music!
Easily my favorite track in the whole game. Aside from feeling epic in scale, the whole fight was in a time limit where everyone you've met will die if you don't win in time. That kind of pressure scares me to death if not for this track playing throughout the entire battle. Just awesome!
Sometimes I dream That he is me Got to shoot my Gungnir at a tree, And Gimle's booms Will fill the room Like M.I.K.E. If I could be like M.I.K.E. Like M.I.K.E. If I could be like M.I.K.E. And then I try To kill you guys And brainwash Ricky to see things my way And Gimle's booms Will fill the room Like M.I.K.E. If I could be like M.I.K.E. Like M.I.K.E. If I could be like M.I.K.E.
I don't think anyone else has seen any footage of this boss, but all I have to say about it is HYPE. I mean, It's Frederica's big reveal, as all amnesiacs have, but also, THERE IS A TIME LIMIT. A FREAKING TIME LIMIT. Not to mention, the boss is, of course, hard as all hell. In the footage I saw, the boss, M.I.K.E., started to malfunction and apparently became more powerful from it. HE LEFT THE ENTIRE PARTY AT MERE SLIVERS OF HP EACH. Except for the Highlander... Who was dead.
Me, thinking M.I.K.E. was the original boss of this game, this has to be the hardest final boss if the entire series! Just look at the turn limit! Me, after learning this is the spinoff, and I call myself a veteran.
The worst part about this song is that it only plays once in the game. I mean, sure, there's the Sound Test, but this was easily my favorite boss in the game. Not just because of the music, either. Although that was a big part.
When a boss with high defense has a time limit and badass music, of course it's gonna leave a tremendous impression. I only wish they put him back in as a postgame refight without that falling over bullshit to make him tougher, kinda like they did with Primeval.
+Brytendo094 Are you serious? Does this mean I don't have to play story mode to get 100% completion, just classic? ( I'll still play story mode, but still.....)
Ueuz 010 The only things exclusive to Story mode are the Fafnir class and the Guild Card medal for clearing Story mode. Well, that, and the obvious stuff like dialogue and certain events are different in story mode, but content-wise, you get pretty much everything in Classic. As well as nine save slots, which pretty much fixes all the problems people had with Untold 1's Story mode.
Really? EO2U has more than 1 save slot? Not that it matters alot to me considering I do everything playthroughs at a time but still, that's really interesting to hear.
Mike went insane. When he realized. that theYgrassil core. was defeated. therefor making him realize that he did not have a purpose anymore. However if he listened to ricky. he would have known. That his purpose all along was to be her friend and Caretaker. It was due to M.I.K.E that ricky was alive to stay in hibernation for a thousand years.
We went from EO1, who had a plot twist but ultimately was like "ok, go fight this guy who actually is from the past, he just absorbed yggdrasil's power" and "Ok go fight the core of the labyrinth who's actually a living organism, it's optional though", which was already pretty huge, to it's remake : "Fuck it, go fight an AI from the past commanding a mech and stop a literal NUKE from destroying everything".
just love these kinds of songs that really drive home the point that no matter how strong you are, if you fuck up here it is the literal end of the world. on a side note, MIKE's counters are waay too unpredictable, I love you atlus but you pull this fake difficulty shit too much in otherwise amazing games. I did eventually beat him by playing extremely defensively and getting very lucky, only attacking when he fell over after he went under half hp.
David Bencebi him falling over did make the fight significantly easier since he would be inactive for a few turns but if you attack and he uses his shield you're pretty much guaranteed to lose.
David Bencebi well he does literally fall over in the fight if it goes on long enough (about every 6 turns) and I was under-leveled (highest level was 46 if memory serves)
The only thing I find distasteful about this track is that it only plays once, in Story Mode. But hey, that gives me a reason to replay the game, so it works out.
Well in the end it's mostly just personal preference, I do agree on the part that orchestrated versions have more quality and detail. JPRG's and orchestras do go well together, and ahh Game Boy Advance days.. old times
The upside to that malfunction is that he takes much more damage from elemental attacks at the time. And as a machine... I don't think I need to tell people which element is best to use, now do I? :P
Yes and no. It was triggered, I think, in the same manner as any self-destruct escape sequence. You apparently have to Kill the boss and escape within 30 turns of triggering the self-destruct mechanism. At least as far as I can infer. Read more comments on this video for more info.
I reckon that the first Untold has a better story mode than Untold 2. Unpopular opinion, but it's my opinion. Then again, with how well all of the games stories tie in with each other, it's worth playing all of them.
Agreed. While EOU had less original classes and the characters were made from very generic stereotypes, the story was quite a bit more enjoyable than 2U's (compare futuristical tech-ruin to old castle). In fact, I liked it so much at one point that I rushed through the entire 3rd and 4th stratum and didn't get to enjoy the actual gameplay because I didn't care. To be fair, I played EO4 a few days before and compared to that, EOU has really lame and unoriginal Dungeon Themes :( But still, the story *is* amazing.
There are many songs that prove you wrong but that's fine and i didn't really feel that End of Raging Wind was not Metal. It had a guitar but this and that are VERY different
ah gods. I love this piece, but going by the comments swcrions, it only plays versus M.I.K.E.? Drat. speaking of which, I really need to look him up.....or just EOU'S story in general....still havent, 2 years later...
hell, even with the damn counters and time limit, this music man.... I see that bloody fight's big brother is just as good if not BETTER I have Eo2u and am almost to the final boss. Goddammit Behemoth you took me 2 months and weeks of research to beat so now I can't remember my dungeon crawling strategy and- *Rambles on about Behemoth- he really hates the thing*
.... To which I would disagree to no end. I love the music of EO and other DS games, as much as the next guy, but orchestral versions often sound much better in terms of sound quality and detail. Plus, JRPG's and orchestras go together like toast and butter. Not to mention, I think the DS lacks any specific musical qualities, where the GBA chip had an incredibly nostalgic vibe, and the Sega Genesis chip... that's a whole different ballpark.
F Rein Actually, in my opinion, Etrain Odyssey IV's composition just didn't stack up to it's predecessors. The third in the series set the bar really high for any music that followed.
It just dawned on me. Swords, spears and a gun
Swords, spears, a gun, and chemistry.
And a blunt from the Doc.
Don't forget the pocket full of drugs made from strange animal materials.

yeah, and i packed his metal fudge..... it hurt me to do it, though ;_;
I had my highlander and Ricky at there maximum level so he was more like a weak pushover for me ... but it was still sad to see him go
the battle doesn't begin when the boss shows up, it begins when the timer starts
@bluezenith6631 Not on first playthrough, got down to the wire.
I wish this guy respawned, just so I could hear this theme in game again.
Bruh theres a bgm option in the options menu that let's you hear all the tracks lol
An dire situation, only augmented by the scenario: In order to save the world, one girl has to put her faith in a solution that is untested and may not work at all. And, through that, fight the machinations of the one touchstone to her old life to do so.
That is a beautiful way to put it.
"Hostile actions recognized. Final defesive mechianism authorized, Comencing hostillitis." -M.I.K.E.

+Kaiser Oblivion the game kind of manipulates the player into like the characters, but on the inside those are tropes, much like anime nowadays

@Olivier Dubreuil-Gagnon
If he had been programed that way I would have a clear conscience
If you listen to the strings in the background they give of this tearful vibe to the fight.
+Marcus Miller there aren't any strings in this song...
Yes there are
+SillyKoalas Very faint but there
Yah I heard them while really listening close this time.
They're hard to hear because they're sort of shadowing the electric guitar. Once you catch onto that, it should be clear.
After having played through both this game and EO IV, I can safely say that I'm buying the next game - and 90% of that purchase has to do with the music!
I think this may be the single greatest battle theme in any game I've played.
Easily my favorite track in the whole game. Aside from feeling epic in scale, the whole fight was in a time limit where everyone you've met will die if you don't win in time.
That kind of pressure scares me to death if not for this track playing throughout the entire battle. Just awesome!
I love this battle theme and the fight with M.I.K.E was awesome too, Honestly it was my favorite part of the game.
If you pay close attention, you can hear part of The Beginning of the End and The End of History in this.
Sometimes I dream
That he is me
Got to shoot my Gungnir at a tree,
And Gimle's booms
Will fill the room
Like M.I.K.E.

Like M.I.K.E.
If I could be like M.I.K.E.
And then I try
To kill you guys
And brainwash Ricky to see things my way
And Gimle's booms
Will fill the room
Like M.I.K.E.
If I could be like M.I.K.E.
Like M.I.K.E.
If I could be like M.I.K.E.
This song would fit perfectly in a Digital Devil Saga game.
YES PLEASE
+Ben Butler well, sadly ATLUS is keeping a saga and making spin offs of it.
Same company made it
Simon: Die, damn you.
Arthur: Is it down yet?
M.I.K.E has the best theme, the best battle, and the best story (for the most part)
Yuzu, just say you want to make the next Sonic soundtrack.
やっぱこれが一番好き😘

Random Troubadore Highlander and Fredericka.
Jaricko you act as if the image of Ricky in troubadour garb is something the world didn't need desperately
This song makes a triumphant return in Nexus, and oh my god the part which it is used in could not be more perfect
wait, what? did I miss something? i recognized many other story-related songs, but this one played too?
@@myriakk1367 2 years late but nope, finished the whole thing and didn't remember this playing anywhere.
Me neither, i only heard Towering Pair, idk if another got in

HOLY BANGIN' TRACK BATMAN
Got rid of this game... But after hearing M.I.K.E.'s theme, I NEED THIS BACK!... One of the few boss theme that left a very long impact on me.

The only thing I find distasteful about this track is that it only plays once, in Story Mode. But hey, that gives me a reason to replay the game, so it works out.

Ugh, i wish the music sounded half this good in the game. The sound mix is really bad, you can hardly hear anything.
No comprendo. I could barely hear the characters' battle voices over how loud the music was.
Try changing the 3DS-speakers from Surround to Stereo in the system settings, Etrian Odyssey IV had the exact same problem in Surround-mode.
