Crazy thing, insect architecture. Just saw one not different from this one today in Karinjini. Kept me thinking the whole day about it.
I have not travelled over that way. I'm not certain how far South into the country these particular mounds occur.
They're massive! The Empire State Building of termites, lol.
Moondust Girl I'm not certain how many termites died in the making of the nest but apparently 5 people died building the Empire State Building.
Moondust Girl The other interesting factoid is that ants which feed on termites can enter the nest through the exposed opening and eventually take over the nest.
