Best tutorial on buttonhhole sewing ever! It really explain how the machine works and how you can work with it. Thank you for sharing your expirience and knowledge 5 stars!
You have given me (and I can see) many others an excellent & much needed gift in your superb presentation here on how to do a manual buttonhole with using the zigzag stitch ... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼THANK YOU 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼& 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼BRAVA👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼‼️
I learnt to sew when I was in my early teens on my Nanna's old compact electric Singer. That's when I learnt the last of your three button holes. I cut my teeth on the wonderful old machine. Thanks for another great vid.
Great video, like all sewing techniques good buttonholes take practice. We were taught the manual way with turning the work and it does give a nice buttonhole with both beads sewn in same direction. or if machine does an auto buttonhole, you do need to balance up the stitch density sometimes to get an even buttonhole.
When doing the zero-length end bartacks in the last version, are there any drawbacks if I use a multi-stitch zigzag instead of a plain zigzag? I quite like the idea of all the individual stitches being similar in width.
It might work, and it might depend on the sewing machine you have. I would have a play. On my large Bernina the 3-step zigzag with 0 length will still travel slightly, so it won't stitch completely on top of itself. With a more basic machine I am not sure if it would work. Have a go and let me know how you get on. There isn't an issue with using it! Aneka
@@MadetoSew Thanks for the encouragement! But since asking, I've started worrying that the extra needle holes would join up with the ends of the cut, and the 3-step bartacks would turn into a loose twisted mess. So I'm going to stick with the orthodox ways.
So sorry to hear that. Some machines do have better automatics buttonholes than others. Maybe it’s worth asking about it next time you get the machine serviced? Incase it needs tweaking?
This was great. The only thing I'm unsure of is on the last buttonhole, while sewing the bar tack,do you set the machine so it stitches in one place.(like the end stitch that you set to zero). If not why doesn't the bar tack look like a row of stitches. Thank you.
Agree with Joseeschapper3206. Best button hole tutorial ever! Making my own jeans, button hole is the most challenging part for me.
Thank you so much. Best of luck with the jeans.

My automatic buttonhole is unreliable. I hate it. It becomes problematic if there is a slight thickness

Hi Maureen, yes the final bar tack has a length of 0, but a width of 4-5mm so it will be stitching in one place. Hope this helps. Aneka
Do you mind me asking why you start the paint on your nails after the moons?
