Idk the Ice theme behind Tropical Freeze kinda suggested to me we would see Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Blaze with a Fire theme next, but that never happened...
Amazing history of this amazing game. I remember having great memories of playing this game and it’s sequel and hearing the story of its development was interesting and inspiring. Especially the part where 94 percent of was completed in the last 5 months. While it’s impressive I hope there wasn’t too much stress in the last 5 months but you can tell they put their passion into this game.
Was not expecting this video to have comedy elements in it and they were hilarious! That Miyamoto Master Yoda bit was an unexpected amusing surprise. Great work, and I'm sure I'm gonna love what you put out next!
This was the first ever Donkey Kong game I’ve ever played I always associated Donkey Kong with the Mario series back then as a kid growing up in the 2000’s but I never knew just how far the two series separated in the mid 90’s giving Donkey Kong his own identity Just seeing the announcement on Nintendo Channel back in 2010 gave me an idea of just how massive this comeback was and how much it meant to so many people Many years later and this series has now become one of my favorite of all time, I just hope we get a new game soon whether it be by retro or the rumored in house Nintendo EDP game
As someone who speedruns DCK tropical freeze for fun, and who shares a birthday with 3 of the 5 Donkey Kong Country games; seeing this video, and seeing how much love, effort, and time retro studios put into this game, it almost made me shed tears. Thank you retro studios❤
@@SnevilGrey How about DKC Returns? Is it on Switch? Or only on 3DS? How would you grade the each game out of 10? DKC 1 is a perfect 10, next two were 9 & 8. Might buy the other two on Switch if I can. Thx in advance 👍
@@Ytnzy250 Returns is only on Wii & 3DS sadly. I do agree that DKC is perfect, of course Returns is different but it really captures what made the original Donkey Kong Country good and made it times better, with a smoother, faster, and more satisfying gameplay experience, combined with a larger viewport of the area making it much better to play in. I'd give it a 10/10 for sure, although I think Tropical Freeze is slightly better, with more originality and fairness in difficulty. But they're pretty much as good, and both masterpieces.
I hope Retro gets to make an original IP someday. Both the Metroid and DKC revivals are masterful adaptations, but their biggest strengths in my eyes are all the original ideas they bring to these titles. Would love to see what they could do if they were left to their own devices.
I really appreciate the type of content your putting out. You're making historical studies of nostalgic properties & it's clear it's the content you want to make. These games are a big part of so many people's lives & thank you for your dedication & care for them in your videos.
Donkey Kong Country Returns was one of the first games I’ve ever played and really the only thing that gives me nostalgia, and it feels good to see this game be appreciated. Glad I can emulate it to come back to it again
While including motion controls in Returns was undoubtedly a controversial quirk, they don't ruin the entire experience. This game and Tropical Freeze have the soul of the original Donkey Kong Country games.
thanks again for a fascinating story Carlito! it eerily reminds me the development of Metroid Prime 2, in which it was estimated they'd only completed 30% of the game with only 3 months before their deadline. They still finished on time, and with a great game at that.
This is my second favorite game of all time! Every level, Pice of music and new idea was perfect. The inclusion of items rocket barrels and bonus levels was a great inclusion as well
It's overdue to return yet again I'd say. I hope that the next studio can knock it out of the park the same way Retro did ( hopefully with more familiar faces from the SNES era ), I gotta admit, hearing that it's supposedly being done in-house makes me nervous, i'm sure the gameplay will be great but i'm more worried about the characters and universe of DK that I've come to love.
Hell yeah ! I think a video on Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair could be good too, as well as Tropical Freeze. You have a nice writing style and a chill voice.
Donkey kong country returns… one of the most underrated wii games ever… also for the love of god Nintendo please port this game it needs to see the light of day on anything other then the 3ds or the wii
This was an awesome video bro. I’ve 100% completed all the DKC games (which is no small feat) I’m definitely a huge fan of the series! Though this is probably my least favorite in the whole of the series, that by no means makes it a bad game. It’s hard to choose, but my favorite would probably be either DKC2 or Tropical Freeze. Retro Studios is the goat, no cap
great video. i loved the originals as a kid and always thought they were insanely hard, lmao. haven’t got around to returns or trop freeze, but hopefully i will one day.
My Dad got me a second hand DKC cartridge when I was little, the battery was dead so it wouldn't save my progress, at the time I had no idea that was the problem because I couldn't read english but I realized it wouldn't delete my progress if I left the cartridge on my SNES, so to finish it I had to play nothing but DKC for a while, so great memories, then I found out way later that there was a second and third game for the SNES and even later I realized DKC Returns existed and I couldn't have been happier, for me these games are just amazing and full of nostalgia and memories of my Dad.
I remember completing the trilogy and getting this game back on Christmas 2010 and how amazing this was, and the 3DS port was even better! They truly need to do the same after MP4. That was one of those 2010s franchise resurrections and its the best one
its adorable how Miyamoto cares so much about his characters, really wanting them to be taken care of and get the best game they can possibly get. he's the best. except for when he denied us a Smash Story Mode because of uploaded cut scenes to youtube. that sucked but he still is the best
I heard rare actually pitched making a DKC4 for a nintendo handheld after they finished up the GBA port of 3. And maybe it was the sales of the GBA ports doing well or rare planting the seed of making a DKC4 that made nintendo decide to greenlight a continuation, but they probably wanted something better than a handheld game so that's where Rares involvement stopped with the series.
I will do Rare still, just way less frequently, that was what I meant in that post. Now we’re gonna do Nintendo as a whole more probably. Only time will tell. But I’m glad you liked the video ❤️
Tropical freeze fucking slaps, the games difficulty is probably the most balanced i have ever seen in a videogame. It's not an easy game, but it's also not frustrating. The fact that they managed to bring back David Wise to make a new soundtrack was amazing, even starting over a level was fun, because of the music of each stage. It's not a perfect game, but damn if retro studios doesn't make the next donkey kong, i feel sorry for the next developers that will work on it.
I didn't grow up on the trilogy, but I did play a lot of the 2nd game specifically! My friends dad had a SNES and so we would constantly play on it when I went over. They didn't have all 3 of the games, so I was only able to play the 2nd, but I absolutely loved it! When DKCR came out for the Wii, I got it for my birthday and I had such a good time playing it, but sadly my Wii along with all of my games were stolen 0-0. I did eventually get a new Wii that I have now, but I didn't get the Wii version of the game because soon after it was stolen my dad got me the 3DS port. I've been replaying it recently and it's so nostalgic! Surprisingly, despite me playing way more Mario games, I think I've spent more time in the Donkey Kong Country games. Funnily enough when me and my friend went to watch the new Mario Movie, I recognized way more Donkey Kong references that Mario ones XD. My favorite games in the franchise have always been Donkey Kong and Luigi's Mansion and I don't think that'll change anytime soon!
After wanting to come up with different enemies for the first two Returns games I do hope that we can still see the Kremlings return again at some point in a future title. Part of what made it exciting to see King K. Rool revealed for Smash Bros. Ultimate was because it felt that we hadn't been seeing him in the games in quite some time.
I still really adore DKCR, always have such an amazing time replaying it. Seems like DKCTF overshadows it for a lot of people which is understandable since that game is insanely good and beautiful, but I think DKCR has a ton of amazing levels, beautiful atmosphere and incredible music too
