- Reminiscent of Willie Carson and Bahri at Ascot all those years ago, Christophe Soumillon tracked a wide course away from his rivals and it paid off! Hats off to a masterful ride from one of the greatest jockeys we'll ever see...

This is why you see jockeys and trainers walking up and down the course earlier on in the day. They're inspecting the ground. An experienced jockey will have a very good idea how and were to ride on the course during each race and same will go for a good trainer and their knowledge of the horses ability. Whereas alot of not so experienced jockeys will just wait until the last few furlongs and then just give it everything and hope for the best.
The part of the track he rode on was better going. His horse didn't burn as much energy going threw the roughed up course.
captain obvious
A bit of enthusiasm from the caller wouldn't have gone astray 🤔
It's just a regional.
He is just having a tough time at home, the mrs left him and took the dog.
@@ankurshah23 He's honestly dreadful, gets confused with who wins half the time. Really poor
Soumillion's ride made for an exciting finish. And, after all, excitement is the whole point of a horserace.
I remember seeing him ride a treble or four timer at Longchamp the day Sea The Stars won the Arc,.. first class jockey ..
back him on a 1.9 shot, don't collect. I will.
It might have won by 4 lengths eased up if he'd stayed on the rail with the others???
He went wide mostly due to the texture of the ground. The wider run may have been harder and hence more speed and less fatigue. It's like riding your bicycle when your tires are filled up versus riding with less air. slower and sucks more energy.
He walked the course before he rode. Made his on line.
One of my fav jockeys.
Reminds me of the late great Pat Eddery.....
Pat eddery would turn in his grave with that comment only one better than pat and that's Lester
is it when it doubles the ground ya hve ta cover lol?
Frankie Dettori on Golden Horn in the Arc was genius.
This was quiet boring to be honest ha. ✌🏻
Frankie Dettori also reponsible for the ultimate in stupidity for his ride on Swain '98 Breeders Cup Classic.
Golden Horn in the Arc was special. Knew the class would pull him to the front of the action from wide draw.
Can someone tell me where was the Genius ride or did i watch a different race.
Better ground with harder surface wider. More speed for less energy. Like a bicycle with less air in the tires. Hope that helps.
I’m no horse man and after reading all the expert comments below I’ll just remain silent and everyone will thing I’m a wise man. 😎
Most wise men are good listeners. Listen 5 times and offer a dialogue once.
Wasn't exactly a genius ride 😂😂😂😂
Every win is called "genius", every loss however has a "howler" in it,,, so it contradicts the whole "genius" nonsense. You can't have genius if there's a howler in there.
TheRebel That makes non sense bruh 😂
It was a gamble
You didn't study geometry in school
@@ankurshah23 and you didn't study french race tracks in school
He is a good jockey he never stressed or pushed the horse or pulled the horse to get in for cover . Horse was always relaxed and always in the better going . So haters always going to hate and only think a good ride is if a lucky gap opens jockey pushes horse through punter is in the horse then and only then it may be a good ride
I'll take a guess that he was running by the far rail to get the horse to relax. He may have been following orders, also.
Highly unlikely. Horses tend to relax with cover and are more likely to race too freely when isolated. He raced on the far side in search of the better ground.
@@goonervillegonad3662 Agreed, not as chopped up out there, although the horse would of had aslot more residual fitness then the others to cover that much more ground surely
Virtualstylez LTD Hard to say anything for certain, apart from saying the horse was definitely fit enough to race! We don’t know what affect the wide route had-if any at all. If the ground was better out wide, It’s a question of whether the extra distance travelled was offset by the easier ground, and by how much. Fwiw I believe the horse would still have won with the normal route. Pleasing to the eye and quite daring, though, all the same.
Possibly better ground for the horse on that side.
So much for saving ground.
simply the horse prefers dryer ground. By the end as the others were struggling they do too. Jockey knew wet/dry bits of track.
every horse 'wants' quicker ground to go quicker on
they're not all slow ground horses for going in the slow ground mate, you're right about the jockey. Man who is usually on top of all of those things is Theo Bachelot
I didn't think going on the outside circuit was such a big deal
It a huge deal in length. Probably 15-20 strides more was needed from that horse.
Ground wasn't broken up as much as the inside rail , less work on the horse
he was on the quickest horse,it would have won from anywhere, ordinary ride
That's not how it works with horses at all
@@daenitarthtag6409 I could have won on Secretariat during the 73 Triple Crown races as long as I didn’t fall off.
Lucky we had an expert like you to tell us all how it was, Thanks Norm
The track conditioner should be proud of himself for racing like that.
Genius ride my arse!
Am still waiting fur summit tae happen 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
凄い!
I thought it would be similar to PC Boudot race a few weeks back but no there was nothing genius about this
What was so special about the ride?
This aged well...
When your horse is so OP you could damn take any line you like.
Stfu
Did I miss something 🤔
most click bait title i ever seen
These type of rides are very common in jump racing
Where's the jumps lol it was a flat race
@@stuartrobinson5365 I meant the tactic employed by the jockey. Going further round for better ground
simply the guest well yeah, jumping horses are trained for different things
Bobby Ussery is smiling somewhere.
気持ち良さそう
"...and Notnowcato has stolen it!"
He obviously walked the track and it was great it paid off...... How many times we seen it at Goodwood and fail..... Best horse won .
Similar to " dropped out , switched off at the back" which so often ends in a favourite being given too much to do at the end.
How right you are...
Willie on Bahri was wide most, if not all the way. That was only halfway. More of a good ride than a "Genius" ride
At least he can’t elbow somebody from there 😂
K
Why?
Took a longer line so that his horse had firmer ground to run on. Because his horse wasn't getting bogged down in the turf as much as the others, it had more gas in the tank at the end to put on the speed.
Not sure that counts as genius, just crafty.
A week later I'm still laughing. A genius ride haha what's the matter with people in this game
Just a carbon copy of Willie Carsons ride aboard Bahri (5/2) in the 1995 QE II Stakes Ascot beating Ridgewood Pearl (8/15f), Willie kept to the left riding under the trees whilst the pack stayed right, this was crap, nothing special, Christophes horse just stayed on stronger in a crap quality race. 🐴💩💩😴
Was that not Goodwood bud ? I remember backed on way back to school.... ;)
I think Willie might have surprised himself that day.
The brown horse tried to push the grey one and impede him.
Nothing special about that. That is just an ordinary ride and ordinary winner he rode there
Must of had £1 on it.
HAYDOCK 2:45 SHE CAN BOOGIE (currently15/2) 1PT EW
(See my video for reasons why)
That was a futher trip , don't think that's the smartest plan but the horse overcame it
And I'd probably be on the other guy...
He just rode on the best ground for that horse, genius is a bit over playing the fact...
ノットナウケイトのムーアを思い出す騎乗だね。
It's only genius if it works... Otherwise you are getting days for that route...
Without the misleading title this v7deo would have approx. 4 views. It should be C. Soumillon wins an uneventful race'
I can't wrap my head around why there is so much hype over Soumillon. Anyone who watches their fair share of french racing will know that Soumillon is unreliable and not trusted to give every ride 100%. He wouldn't win half the number of rides if he didn't jock for Aga Khan and de Royer Dupre
I liked your comment but you have to consider his work over the past 25yrs, the guy is a serious top jockey, just doesn’t always sit on the best horse in the race. There’s good competition between jockeys and trainers in France these days so he doesn’t get it all his own way.
gotta think too that he knows the horse may not be capable of win or has instructions so saves it for another day, to think horses are geared up to win every race like they're at the olympics is a bit naive.... PC BOUDOT top man nowadays anyway.
moulinyan They are pushing that one hard. Al Shaqab colours, he gets a lot of winners the past couple of seasons
@@phobsdsr4326 yeah only followed the french during lockdown tbh, know which jockey rides winners for which trainer/owner combo is more important than looking at form for me, why i keep thanking hugo palmer for sticking ryan moore on recently, never wins etc.
@@phobsdsr4326 Soumillon reminds me a lot of Jamie Spencer. When either of them have armchair rides and are clearly on the best horse, it's lauded as riding with a cool head and well judged. But nothing is ever said when it goes the other way. I get that juveniles are not to be handled too hard, but in the horse's early stage of the career, a jockey is meant to educate them in racing. All too often, hands are down and give up with 2 furlongs out. But you're right, there are much better jockeys out there.
なんだ怪物か
Was there a word I missed ? Of course Click Bait.
They are running in the wrong direction
Not sure what constitutes as genius nowadays but horse riding is not on that list. Solid ride.
Clueless punter 😂
He’s lucky the horse stayed on if it got beat by 2nd I would’ve been annoyed by the ride
Not one of the most memorable races. More bog standard.
I would love to see a race without the jockey using a whip, because then you can really see the skills of jockeys. My view is if a horse and jockey are in tune you don’t need a whip.
You can they are called hands and heels races they carry the whip but don't use it
This is not genius cos if everyone got a good memory then he just copyed what Willlie Carson done at QE2 many many years ago to won the race due to his horse is no good on soft going.
Olivier Peslier is the last French genius jockey this last 30 years. See Solemia 's victory arc 2012.
Crappy call😆.
The commentator was totally bored..hahaha
Just a normal ride nothing to see here ☝️
This is below average man seriously click bait 😂😂
Soumillon good drive?? LOL
Remember the name Arrogate
Which one, my friend? That is, the one before Dubai or the completely flat one afterwards? Was something physically wrong after Dubai, or did he just burn out? Cheers!
Nothing genius about that! Just a basic ride tbh
That’s what I said! Ha
Ride is not genius, horse was brilliant.
Genius ride? Who is the Jockey? Donald Trump
clickbait
Wouldn't call it a great ride at all. No proof that it was better out there and he lost probably 2-3 lengths getting there and same again getting back
nothing speciall ,ordinary ride
There is nothing ordinary in choosing to race on the other side of the course as the main pack. He obviously decided the far side had better ground.
Nothing special
Lol the ride was terrible. What is he doing?! Horse would of won by further if he stayed on the rail or even tucked in behind the horse on the rail. Genius ride lol get a grip
Crap...
