The uncertain future of a historic LGBTQ+ safe space: New York City's People's Beach

- The People's Beach has been a popular gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community since the 1940s, shaped by its beachgoers into more than just a spot to sunbathe and swim. It's a place of direct and indirect social activism, where queer joy is at the heart of the jumble of music, umbrella and bodies packed tightly along the shoreline each weekend.
But the land directly surrounding the beach is drastically and quickly changing. The recent demolition of an abandoned building, a $50 million building restoration plan and erosion threaten the future of this safe haven, some activists and beachgoers told ABC News.

Riis Beach has been queer space (predominantly, but everyone has access and choice) since at least when I was a pup in the 70s. No, people sadly can't just go to any beach without fear of harassment and violence. Sadly, gentrification tends to snatch away what little space working class folks of all colors and orientations have when it begins to look profitable to oust them/us. Same thing happened to the piers in the West Village.
Everytime someone with a lot of Money discovers a beautiful place they take it over. This place is historic and should be left alone .
I had the best times on that beach!!! Back then it was just referred to as 'The GAY BAY'! No fighting, no arguments and no hassles. People just wanted a place to be themselves and enjoy the beach!!! Hopefully the greed of others will not infringe onto that beach!!!!
Why not create an Artist Studio and Health and Wellness Center complex where the hospital was?
Keep the beach the way it has been to protect people and history.

Why don’t gay professionals who know land rights and the upper class gay persons create these spaces and buildings that are tax deductible for community outreach housing
