- The US Air Force have deployed Rockwell B-1B Bombers to the US European Command, a few months after the last deployment. The Bomber Task Force returns to RAF Fairford in the UK; a standby bomber base for the entirety of the European Theatre of US military operations. This is so the bombers can participate in various NATO deterrence operations and exercises with allies; especially with the current situation in Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.

I live near Frankfurt Airport, Germany. When I was a child, a B1 could not sweep its wings into low speed configuration before landing at an US airbase somewhere in Germany due to a technical defect. So it had to land with a much higher speed than normal and was therefore redirected to Frankfurt airport because of the longer runway. Prior to landing it had to circle at quite low altitude at the area where I live and everybody was looking at that strange, enormously large Aircraft. Was quite impressive… Next day in school a classmate told everybody: Hey, yesterday I’ve seen a Concorde approaching Frankfurt Airport…
yes I remember that one too I was on duty that day and still have the press photos from it
little did they know :) The sheer power of this no one will ever know :)
😜
“ A Concord !”, I love it. FWIW, I was stationed @ Flugplatz Hahn back in the day; best assignment I ever had.
😄😆😅🤣😂
That plane is 40 yrs old and still looks futuristic and bad ass, I live by an air base where they take off regularly, the roar of the engines as it climbing is insane.
U2s first flew out of “North Base” at EDWARDS AFB IN THE EARLY 50s
I saw an artist's concept of the Bone back around 1974. Early concepts had a T-tail and no canard in front.
And to think that pooty's most advanced bomber is equivalent to 40 yr old American bomber.. Tu-160 is pooty's most prized bomber
Such a sick looking plane. It actually look a lot like a giant Mig-35 except with the sweeping wings.
Ellsworth or Dyess?
B-1's fly over our house from Nellis Air Force Base In Las Vegas. I can hear the roar from the east as they head our way. I ALWAYS run out the door to see them. Totally awesome at night with the afterburners. I usually see a single one. At the beginning of the year there were 3 of them together. That was a real treat.
I love reading all the stories from people who live near Nellis. They're regular visitors there which is SO cool! One of the best photos is actually of one at night with the afterburners fully lit as it rises up above the Vegas Strip.
And a warm welcome to our American allies.
AGAIN. Europe should Remember without America thé political map was totally different since '45
Next winter more Britons will freeze to death in their cold homes, thinking they are now safer thanks to America. How stupid this is.
Gotta say, the bone is still my favourite aircraft, ever since I first saw her display at Mildenhall as a child. I was hooked on this beautiful aircraft and still am. Welcome back to the U.K. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
@@paulchaplin73 yeah, saw one on the ground at an airshow, my jaw dropped: Wow! that is one sexy aircraft while its mission is to kill. more accurately deter others fr killing
Might as well say goodbye now as well, U.S military has a reputation for sudden withdrawal.
Love the B1's! So graceful yet menacing looking.
Two more arriving Saturday over there..How is wx forecast for Saturday at Fairford
From Deb…My Dad was assigned to Fairford in the early 60s-as a navigator. Our officers quarters overlooked the flight line. When the klaxons went off, my brother and I would “scramble” up to my bedroom window for the clear and exciting view of the crews scrambling/racing for the B-52s. We’d watch goggle-eyed as each BUFF would taxi out, with that multiplied scream of engines and bomber after bomber lifting off trailing their smoke plumes. Best childhood ever!! But I’ve never understood why they call a B-52 a BUFF. Yes, she’s Big, but Ugly…no way! She’s an elegant, gorgeous and sinister-looking picture of American hurt coming somebody’s way.
What a beautiful sight. As a retired truck driver I spent many weekends at Ramstein truck stop. The USAF has a huge airbase there. Brilliant.
Ah, 1079 was my first jet as a young crew chief. Good to see it again.
Cool......
Seeing the U2 still fly, Kelly Johnston is looking down from on high, smiling!
I live outside the base where that plane is stationed. 9th reconnaissance wing at Beale AFB in California. I see them take off and land all the time.

I thought the U2 was given up for scrap and museum displays like the SR-71.

Used to love seeing and hearing the B1 when they were still at the base in Wichita, talk about a roar!
I was stationed at R.A.F. Alconbury 79-82. Our mission was R4FC & the F-5 aggressor squadron. Shortly after I left the mission switched to the TR-1. It would have been pretty sweet to see the TR-1. Alconbury is no longer an airfield. Fond memories of being there.
Hi there, thanks for your comment. I was serving in the RAF and stationed at R.A.F Wyton Huntingdonshire our runway was occasionally used by USAF on approach into Alconbury, I think we both had runways on the same headings and your guys called in for a coffee? As you say fond memories.

It was really nice meeting you mate, good work
amazing aircraft refuelled a U2 once when i was in the RAF as a Driver it has to divert to Marham and spent the night there. When i was refueling it the ground crew who had come up from either Mildenhall or Lakenheath asked me to help them out and i was on the tip of one wing bouncing it up and down to help the fuel flow i asked to look into the cockpit but that was a no no great to see the updated version still doing a great job
I used to watch them taking off and landing when I was in Cyprus……as an MTD……

There's a thrill to it! That's Ellesworth AFB, right?
but this is in germany. rammstein. next stop is iran. 🤣
Such a beautiful aircraft the B1-B is. Its awesome news that there being modified and upgraded to remain in service for the foreseeable future with modern conventional and nuclear strike capabilities.
BEAST UPGRADE will see them into the 2040s or beyond 💪💪
To this day still one of the most beautiful war planes produced 😍
I machined the titanium part that sweeps the wings on the B-1 and the heavy-duty bomb rack.
The Bone: Do not fool around, you don't want to find out.
Love the menacing look of this awesome plane and great to have it back in the UK.👍👍
Great to have it back? Its here for war operations. What is great about that?
Was this at RAF Fairford? dumb question? as in where else hand a runway long enough
Is that just the sexiest looking military aircraft built
It is clear that these planes are not the latest in aviation fashion and technology. It is clear that these planes are instruments of final destruction and can be used in this role at any time. But I look at them with double pleasure. Their presence cools down the hot heads of the Kremlin hawks! And for God's sake, they are so beautiful!!!!

We are doing well, and today I am sure that without any support, our army, as it is definitely stronger than the Ukrainian one, will be able to cope calmly with any stupid ideas from the East, mainly Belarusian-Putler ideas. BTW: from West too... And this is just the beginning. Poland and the Polish Army have the ambition to become a local force that MUST be respected. We just want to be a European porcupine that, if attacked, will sting very painful and may even be fatal for aggressor. Just like Turkey - which, if it decided that its air zone had been violated, simply shot down the Russian plane without any hesitation. And we have drawn conclusions from the events in Europe and those in September 1939...
And besides: I still think that the B-1 is one of the most beautiful planes - a work of art not only in the technical sense but also in the artistic sense. :)))

Some skill to come to a halt before wing drops to ground on U2..amazing pilots
Indeed.👍 But wonder how they cope when there's strong cross winds. 🤔
I have read U-2 most difficult/ challenging plan to fly, the way it is optimized for high altitudes it is less than ideal at low altitudes.
The U2 R is still amazing to look at , new upgrades soon make it the best in its field
Sadly it only takes one B1 bomber to take out everything of value in Russia.

My dad was a B-17 pilot in WW II and was shot down over Germany on July 26, 1943 and spent the rest of the war as a POW. After the war, he flew B-29's, B-47's, and B-52's during the Cold War. He died on active duty unexpectantly in 1971 at the age of 51. I'm sure he is looking down from heaven marveling that the B-52 is still in the fight and likely will be after 100 years of service.
The B-1 was supposed to replace the B-52 and failed. The B-2 was supposed to replace the B-52 and the B-1 and failed. The B-21 Raider is supposed to replace the B-2, B-52, and B-1. It might replace the B-2 because of costs. It might replace the B-1. But I doubt it will replace the B-52 anytime in the next couple of decades. I'm not even sure that it will replace the B-1 anytime soon.
The Air Force is beginning to realize that the 4th gen aircraft are becoming ever more capable with the new weapons being developed. The B-52 and B-1 are essentially stand off long range missile trucks in a near peer war which will be invaluable because they can carry far more than the B-2 or B-21.
We'll see what happens.
My Father flew B-17s in WWII as well, flew over Germany mostly. He was part of the Triangle P squadron. After his 25 missions he opted out. They offered him to fly in the Pacific to help in that theater but by that he had seen and done enough. He retired Captain USAF and is buried in Punch Bowl on Oahu Hawaii just above Pearl. My siblings and I grew up in Hawaii and never made it to the Air Force - However I am MSFT Teams Consultant for the USAF and live near the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs Colorado.
B-52s are expected to stay in service until 2050..per Wikipedia..
If that is true the youngest plane would be 88 years old
30+ years ago I'm being a tourist in a car, South Arizona where because of low humidity the Air Force stores > mothballs its inactive planes. was time of Desert Storm, if Saddam had seen: he would of had 2nd thoughts. They were destroying B-52s w Russian observers verifying and filming; according to terms of SALT treaty, strategic arms limitations. which the Russians later withdrew from, after cheating. Anyone who trusts Ivan (Russia) is a lousy student of History, has short term memory. or Naive belief my Slavic brother, who I share the same Orthodox religion w, would never harm me.

Back in June I was working at a festival, the evening before the event we were about to have a staff meeting, and one of these magnificent beauty’s not only circled our event grounds, but did a slow fly past right over us, with gear down, let’s just say over 100 blokes were standing there grinning,
Haha yes!!! I'd absolutely be one of those blokes too. They often like to do impromptu flypasts.
The B-1 handles like a T-38. The U-2, however, is a handful.
The worst case scenario is to have this big bird over you dropping off her payloads.
I miss the Vulcan.

So enjoyed the U2 arrival. Back in the mid'90's my ex-Brother-in-law was USAF and stationed at Beale AFB (known as 'Recce Town' vs. 'Fighter Town at Mirromar AFB). Visiting from the U.K, he managed to get my Wife & I an escorted visit to the Flight Line, signed off by the Base Commander. As a civvie, this was amazing. In the 2 hours we were there we saw 2 landings - loved the chase cars, only driven by U2 pilots, to call the landing distance - as a well as training flight where the Instructor and and his student walked out in basically space suits! When I asked the Instructor questions like. 'How high?'. 'How fast?', and 'Length of Op?', I was greeted with a smile and a courteous, 'That's classified, Sir'. Feel very privileged to have these seen amazing aircraft and crew up close and personal.
Ah so it is a U2! must admit even by video I have never seen one flying, let alone landing

They do not and can not carry nuclear weapons as per treaty. They can not end the world.
Incredible they have to put on the extra two wheels for supporting the wings after the U2 has landed
Yeah, it's to allow it to taxi. Prior to take off, they actually remove the wheels on the runway.
