Thanks for the pros and cons list...electricity...I hadn't thought of that. Of all the things! lol I have my eye on a used AVL compudobby...but I'm gonna do it! My one loom to rule them all, is how I'm looking at it. I have all kinds of looms here but...I need a really, really versatile one. And well, when there's a bargain to be had...:) Also, I've just subscribed...hopefully, you're still at it.

I have been mostly publishing shorts lately. I’m super busy with my weaving business that I just haven’t found much time to make new long form videos. I will eventually get back at it though!

Seems as though the compu-dobby makes machine woven cloth. What’s the point of spending 40k on a loom to make machine woven cloth when computer made cloth is available for purchase by the yard.

It’s not machine woven! Not by a long shot! You still have to sit at the loom and do the weaving. The computer part only tells the loom which shafts to lift next. You still have to lift the shafts, throw the shuttle and beat the reed. Also, I suppose you *could* spend $40k on a loom, but none of mine have cost anywhere close to that.

For people who want help and make pegging dobby bars easier I recommend they get the iWeaveIt app. I have it on my iPad. I think they make and Android version. It'll step you through the pegging and it helps with accuracy. There is also a way, which I could not get to work on my iPAD, whereby you can run it by voice control. I guess there is somebody know digitally printing dobby bars so you don't have to pay $5.00 a bar. I actually don't like the fact that AVL now sells the bars with the plastic tape instead of the metal connectors. The tape really isn't resuable if you have to reuse a chain and it's $$$. I keep a dobby chain by itself. When I bought my PDL I had over 200 bars and I sold them. If you have a pattern that has so many chains it drags on the floor the weight of it will cause it to not ride correctly in the dobby and you'll get misspicks.
