this was the first movie in a long time that kept me up at night. it realy shows what war was back then. dirty, blody, pure horror. and no death had any meaning at all.
It did exist, but they were marginal cases. In school I learned about Jean corentin Carré who was 15 when he enlisted. Later I learned the Soldier who died the youngest in the french army was called Désire Bianco, and was only 13. No one is acting Sigma here
@Cry. Alfred Zech, also known as Alfred Czech[1][2] (12 October 1932 - 13 June 2011), was a German child soldier who received the Iron Cross, 2nd Class at the age of 12 years. @RealCryZy If you spent as much time looking at the politics of history as you did trying to find philosophical lessons from American Psycho you'd probably have something to say that doesn't make you look like a complete dumbass, but you don't so, yeah...
I heard that name before, didn't he repelled a German assault by manning a 50.calibler on a burning M10 Wolverine while speaking with an officer through a radio for artillery, the officer even asked how close were the Germans and he responded "just hold the phone and I'll let you speak to the bastards".
this actor is so talented, I look up to him so much considering this was HIS DEBUT. This is pure talent, I can't explain it otherwise, some people are just charismatic
It's unbelievable how the intense stress of warfare rapidly ages you and breaks down your body. It's not just pain in his eyes, his soul is dying day by day.
I think what hit me the hardest was that by the end of the war Paul was no more than 18 if even. I think the horrors for the men who served was not what happened during but what happened after. How could anyone return to a civilised society after enduring this kind of trauma. It saddens me greatly that some of the current generation of young people can't even tell you what years the great war took place.
Those who do not remember their history are bound to repeat it. War will never end and young people will continue to be sent to the meatgrinders by the old and bitter.
Erich Maria Remarque ( the author of All Quiet on the Western Front) Also wrote a book called The Way Back in which a couple of german soldiers go back to civilian life and try to adapt to it.
In the book, there's a passage where Paul returns home for vacation and it talks about how he perceives everything that used to be normal to him. Like how he now fears to be smelling gas or flinched when a loud sound occurs. Or how the local generals lecture him about war, even though they know nothing of what is really going on in the fields. The book has a lot of interesting writing styles and description of what the soldiers think and see, with a difference between their young academic spirits and their broken minds of war and cruelty
''War isn't about who is right, but who is left'' 17 Million Soldiers died in WWI, young and old. Families through out Europe suffered by the news of their loved one's dying in a worthless war without dignity or mercy. We can only imagine the terrors of War in our deepest Nightmares, but we can come close with the stories of the one's that experienced it and lived another day.
It's like having a constant stream of overstimulation and adrenaline where "Life is Death, and Death is Life" and you live in a blurry world where the mud and the cold are more like a close friend to you than the Nation you're fighting under.
The trenches were their life to the point where they couldnt even escape them in their sleep. Imagine living in this hellscape, not even knowing what's real or not, never seeming to get any rest. Having your life cut silent instantly while you thought you were just having another dream.
And aside from the constant adrenaline, they couldn't rest in the trenches because of all the rats and the parasites that infested their clothes. Everyone was plagued by fleas, diarrhea and other hygiene problems
1:04 That leafless tree scene made me think when I saw the movie. I thought "that scene is too big just for some trees, it must have been just to set the mood". I started reading The Guns of August because of this movie (the book that portrays the first world war very well) and there is a chapter called "At home before the leaves fall" that reminded me of this scene. Briefly, the Germans were so confident they would win the war that they thought it would only last 4 months at most. When the Kaiser declared the troops departing the first week of August for Belgium, he told the soldiers "You will be home before the leaves fall from the trees" (we all know what happened next). I don't know if that was the intention of this scene but it made me reflect on it (I used google translator to write this text, I know English but I was too lazy, so...)
There is also an italian poet who fought in the italian army who wrote a small but famous (at least in Italy) poem: Soldati Si sta come d’autunno sugli alberi le foglie. (We are as in autumn on branches the leaves) Simbolising that the soldiers, like the leaves could fall in any second during Fall.
As a german, i am translating the speech at the beginning: “The future of Germany, is the responsibility of it’s greatest generation. My friends, that is YOU!” *Crowd cheering* “So off to the fight, for emperor, God and fatherland!” *Cheering*
Und dann schaut man sich heute unsere Generation an. Einfach nur beschämend. Die mussten durch die Hölle gehen. Haben Freunde sterben sehen. Haben Massaker nach Massaker gesehen. Unsere Generation? Greift hilflose Einsatz Kräfte an. Fühlen sich krass wenn sie klauen oder sonst was. Einfach nur traurig

@Professional Milker The author of All Quiet on the Western Front is called Erich Maria Remarque and the character Paul dies in the book on a quiet day where nothing new is reported about the war I think you are referring to the moment when he gets home for vacation
the movie did a very great job at potraying the soldier's life realistically, there's no 'hero' or 'villain' it's just young men trying to survive, we can see this in the intro when our 1st main character got introduced, then died when he charges towards no man's land, then we got explained the life of the soldier represented by paul baummer, and then paul died to repeat the cycle when we see our new main character looking at paul's dead body, it's to tell the story that even if you have so many experience, friends, loved ones in the end you're just another body

We're currently reading the book in our german class and we're going to watch the movie to it in a few weeks. It's really sad what these soldiers had to endure in our for us to live in peace. R.I.P to all the ppl that fought for us
I love the way the directors potrayed the horrors of war using color, from what i can tell they colors were disappearing as the boys journey progresses (although i havnt watched the full movie so feel free to correct me). Amazing use of symbolism to illustrate the horrors of war.
This movie was absolutely spot on with showing the horrible conditions, and point of view of the German soldiers during ww1 also the fact that they had no real choice to leave once they were in the war
(Spoiler alert) the sad thing about this movie is, just before the war started the main character had a lot of friends and a perfect life. His friends went to sign up and also he did. But by the end all his previous friends had died and the friends he made on the way also died. The absolute thing that got me crying was at the end when he literally got stabbed 2 seconds before the armistice. This war was truly horrid and could’ve been prevented. This movie depicted it very well.
Okay your stretching it a far too thin. This was a war that was bound to happen no matter what. Tensions were already high in Europe mainly with Germany being late to colonize
@@idkanymorelol46The extent of the war was avoidable. The issue is large alliances. It drew so many countries into what could’ve been just a regional conflict within the Austro-Hungarian empire’s sphere of influence. This movie really deserved an edit, it's a masterpiece
truly a masterpiece the movie and so this edit, amazing work
Fantastic match with the sound track 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 😁✌🏻
We're currently reading the book in our german class and we're going to watch the movie to it in a few weeks. It's really sad what these soldiers had to endure in our for us to live in peace. R.I.P to all the ppl that fought for us
So sad to see that Germany hasn't learned and is now sending tanks to kill more people
They weren’t fighting for anything, war is pointless that’s the saddest part
honestly movie was pretty mediocre compared to the book. the book has really stuck with me.
@@jamieyeex1439 it is not pointless. It is only pointless for those who do not benefit from it.
Congratulation for 1 million love ❤ from nepal nice edit
Thanks 💓 bhai
best movie about World War 1
I love the way the directors potrayed the horrors of war using color, from what i can tell they colors were disappearing as the boys journey progresses (although i havnt watched the full movie so feel free to correct me). Amazing use of symbolism to illustrate the horrors of war.
Not to mention how cold it is. I can feel the lack of warmth just by looking at the shots
“War is just old men arguing and young men dying.”
The first cut is bone chilling.
This movie had me at the edge of my seat from beginning to end, truly a tragic and good movie. And your edit is just a masterpiece 👍
thanks for making this.
I love this movie one of the best editing I've seen on it
This is truly slowed to perfection. Probably the best edit I've seen so far
Appreciate that (you can check the description for the Orignal Audio I just Changef the Volume in certain Place)
"The old men start the war, and the young men are sent to die in it." - a wise man
This movie was absolutely spot on with showing the horrible conditions, and point of view of the German soldiers during ww1 also the fact that they had no real choice to leave once they were in the war
"War is where the young and stupid were tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other"
Niko Bellic
Finally some historical edit video that isn't think "war is based and everyone need to exprienced it!💪😎"
A storm of steel
This video was recommended to me and I just watched the movie thanks to this Bro👍
Thanks 😊😊 Hope you liked it
(Spoiler alert) the sad thing about this movie is, just before the war started the main character had a lot of friends and a perfect life.
And they based this in some German veterans story.Seeing his friend died traumatized and stressed in in whole movie 😭😭
It’s why pacts like NATO are so risky, especially when they’re indefinite in length.
Literally just finished watching this. Brutal and sad but good movie
YAYY YOUR EDIT FINALLY REACHED 1M VIEWS CONGRATSSS
Woah Thanks ✌🏻 RUclips Just sent me the Notification
No shit, pause this movie at any moment and it looks like a painting. Hans down the most beautifully shot film I have ever seen.
