Well google says that's: 'vulgar' British slang
A vulgar Dutch translation could be: opzij kut
But: "Sorry hoor" (indeed pronounced as .. )
... is actually a very polite apology in Dutch
Well, "sorry hoor" is often used sarcastically as well, so you're better off saying things like "dat spijt me" or "pardon" or "mijn verontschuldigingen"... Depending on the situation, of course, and how polite exactly you're trying to be. Especially that last one will often be considered snobby.
When in doubt, use "Wou je wat?", which is sure to get you either beat up, or have the person you're addressing awkwardly back away. Not an actual apology, but close enough. >:)
Edit: Just plain "sorry" will do as well, as will "sorry meneer/mevrouw".
Thanks, yet "Sorry hoor" (which translates as: Excuse me) is in Dutch perfectly normal, polite and decent for apologizing.
Where as the English phonetics of "Sorry hoor" being "Sorry whore" might sound slightly offensive ? Wouldn't you say ?
Haha, indeed. I do still think the "hoor" often kind of detracts from the apology. Adding "hoor" kind of implies that you're apologising as a matter of course, regardless of whether you're actually sorry. That's how I interpret it anyway. Not in all situations, but in many.

Thanks Greg and Bart for this new awesome Dutch lesson. I learned a lot, as some of these expressions with "cats" aren't used in Spanish. I take note to tell them to my Belgian friend. She might laugh if she sees I know this and I understand it. Dankuwel! 😅🤣😘

@@gregshapiro she's Flemish, of course. We usually talked about the Flemish culture and the differences with Walloon region. We speak Spanish, but now I'm starting to write a bit of Dutch and she corrects me. I heard her speaking Dutch once, and I liked it. This is how my interest began. I had other Walloon friends at university, and we spoke French too. 🙂
