In this DIY video, I am repairing and restoring a vintage Scythe. Woodwork can be satisfying especially on old antique hand tools like this. We are going to use it around the homestead for those jobs that the weed eater can't take care of. Be sure and follow us for more antique tool repair and restoration.

Good morning Smokey Mountain and family, you never stop gaining my interest. Greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲
So glad, Lloyd! Glad to have ya here at the Outpost!
@@SmokyMountainOutpost welcome bro everytime.
Awesome! 👍😎🇨🇦
Thanks!
really nice job my grand father used them all day to cut wheat, oats and etc. take care, be safe and well.
Thanks, John!
Back in the olden days they used to put the left hand at threads on there because when you're slinging it sometimes your hand turns it and loosens the boat so they changed them to left handed threads is what my grandfather told me
Makes sense!
Loved you making the handle for the Hand Si !!! I use to have to cut weeds down around the outhouse when I was a kid !!! Had a big Willow Tree behind the old Outhouse and our trash burn barrel at the side so had to hand Si cause couldn't get the old push mower around all the stuff!!! Also had an old double cut smaller swing Si for weeds around the Fence Rows!!!
That sounds like a lot of work, Richard. Thanks!
Good work Richard, the Scythe was brought back to life with the restoration and can be used for another hundred years. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.
Yessir! He done a wonderful job. :) My grandfather would be so proud. -Jennifer
I cant wait to see you fixing more old tools I love watching that
Thanks, Jim!
Still love the old hand tools. I think they just work better. An old farmer friend taught me how to sharpen them. Every time I use one - the old memories keep coming back. Well Done my friend!!
Thanks, Ted! The oldies are the goodies!
Always a treat to visit with you Richard and see what is going on at the Outpost.
Thank you, Phil!
good job
Thanks!
That turned out nice, and the timber oil always come's threw to add the beauty!
It does. Thanks!
Beautiful piece of history brought back to life. I have not used one of these for years. Brings back many good memories. God bless and stay safe.
Thanks, David!
Nice
Thanks!
Wow, this brings back memories, I grew up using one of those, there is nothing better than old tools, they work so much better than today's tools, your place is awesome, sending you all lots of love and hugs, from Indiana, USA
Thanks, Tina!
my dad tells me stories about watching guys work cutting grass along roadsides with a scythe. They would take a break and have a sharpening stone in their pocket that they could pull out and give the blade a quick sharpening every now and then. I used one several times as a kid to trim underneath our electric fence. We didn't have gas powered weed wackers back then.
That sounds like hard work, Dan! What I wouldn’t give to rewind time and just spend a few days. -Jennifer
Und wieder super Arbeit gemacht 👏🏻👍😁😊🤗
Thanks!
Awesome job !! 🙏💚👍🇬🇧.....Simon
Thanks!
You are work all the time 🙂
He does, Vicki. Hard to get him to stop.
Hello from the Netherlands and thanks for the video. Sincerely, Hollandduck
Thanks!
Good job Richard.
Back in 1959 when Dad brought his block of land, in our hometown, long grass and used one of these, I seem to remember that the sharp end was at 90% to the handle?
Not sure about that, Paul… I will look into it. Hope all is well your way! -Jennifer
Nice job. Quality handle will last for many years.
Yes, it will. Thanks!
It would be nice to have a scythe once in a while.
Yessir!
If you ever consider changing the name of your channel may I offer a suggestion, let’s call it “Richard’s Classroom”. We all learn something new every time…….You’re the Man!
Aww! Thank you, Marty! What a nice comment. -Jennifer
At the end you were leaning on that Scythe, all I could think of was Archie Campbell leanin on a pitchfork, singin. Where oh where are you tonite.........!!!!!
LOL! This got me tickled… Dad just made me watch some All in the Family while at his house the other day. We got some good laughs! -Jennifer
Boa tarde
Thanks!
Mother Nature does provide…God Is good!
Thanks!
👍🏴
Thanks!
Richard beautiful job, just a question? Isn't it supposed to have a handle closer to the top?
Some do and some don’t. This one only had the one
Can i ask what the torch and the bucket of stuff was for? Longevity?
Carpenters secrete?
Thanks!
That turned out great!
Yes, longevity. Helps preserve it just a little longer and looks much better I think
Man I need to find me a new limb like that. Handle is completely rotted on the one I have. Both knobs too.
Hang around in the woods and probably spot one. A lot of dogwood trees bend like that
@@SmokyMountainOutpost not much deciduous left in north Louisiana. Have a Bradford pear limb that’s about right. I don’t know how durable it would be.
🇳🇴👍👍👌
Thanks!
Ребенок в этих делах, смешно смотреть.
why did you burn it with a gas torch?
Because we like the type of look you get after the oil is applied. Rustic

Matthew 18:19-20
King James Version
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Amen.
That looks like
a piece of dogwood ,,, lol
You are correct, Ricky!
