We don't need to be told to be proud of our country. I get tired of tourists and people from other countries telling us that don't appreciate the beauty of New Zealand - the vast majority of us do and have always done so.
Visitors are vitally important to our economy I agree, but not so good for the environment - and most of us are passionate about that. Some tourists (and. of course, Kiwi's too) do not respect our countryside and leave rubbish and human waste around which risks ruining the reputation of all visitors travelling in New Zealand, especially backpackers and people travelling in campers,

I've been to New Zealand three times and in my opinion, "all the diversified natural beauty on this earth is contained on the north and south islands of that south Pacific paradise." Try to visit this during your life-time; you'll NEVER forget what you saw!
Canadian here, I can't wait to visit NZ someday, you all have such a beautiful country with amazing culture. More New Zealanders should check out Canada. We have a pretty alright country ourselves..lol ;)
In Norway we have much of the same geography as New Zealand, but it is also much colder in Norway, so its much more snowy in the mountains. But I have to agree that New Zealand is the REAL home of Middle-Earth
you know what's sad, i saw more of new zealand's landscape in this clip than i ever have in the 32 years i've lived here. and yes, i'm a jafa. but i was born in dunedin and raised in the waikato before settling up here. lol

It would be a shame seeing Hobbiton or other still existing sets being displaced one day like most of the original LOTR sets. You really need to keep this whole stuff, the sets, the armory, the props for the next generations of Tolkien fans.
Tourism is one of New Zealands biggest source of income, i doubt they would get rid of all that stuff, the environment here is fine too, our natives (although there fucking cunts) are good at making sure we don't ruin there land. New Zealand dosn't believe in nuclear power aswell as most the power here is made from renewable resources.

I am from PNG but I have lived here for a couple of years, All I can say is Beautiful Country, Beautiful People...have flown all over the entire North Island on my Cross Country flights...it's just breath-taking looking down from above...South Island is next on my list

I think one of the things that makes the Southern Alps so impressive is their scale. Because NZ air is so clear, it is easy to underestimate the size of the mountains. For example, Aoraki is 'only' 3754m high, but it is 3000m higher than Mount Cook Village! Our mountains might not be as high above sea level as other mountains around the world, but because the surrounding valleys are usually relatively close to sea level, the mountains are still just as large!
Sometimes I forget that the rest of the world isn't like this; travel 2 hours down the road to another city with a completely different view of the country. One of the reasons I'll always come back to this beautiful place!
What a unbelievable and wonderful country! There are everything - lakes, rivers, mountains, steppes, marshlands, watterfalls. Only me there missing :( ... How much I want to live there without any worries, governments, taxes, Internet and other... Only me and lovely nature!
I love The Hobbit so much, The Lord of the Rings too!!! I love this world (Middle Earth), it's characters, landscapses, music and everything of it!!! Please do not think I am 'Kiwi bashing'. I met and made friends with many superb people from all walks of life in NZ. I love NZ as a country and just feel that the younger people have lost what made the older generations of NZers so very special.

I can honestly understand how you have come to these conclusions, I had the same impressions and doubts of NZ growing up as a 'white guy' in a mostly Maori and Polynesian neighbourhood but I can now really say that this is a great place to live and I still live in the same location - so trust me when I say it is just a bad impression and even though it looks bleak we really do work together and make this place a better country and come together when it counts the most. Communities are strong.
Its a shame people are getting so detached from nature when seeing it leaves us astounded how beautifull it can be. And to think most of the world was like this.

People don't realise that Mt Cook is actually of comparable size to Everest, it's base starts at about sea level whereas Everest sits on an already incredibly high plateau. Same goes for many mountains around the world.
Fully agree with you mate, it really comes down to the individual because our government does everything it can to provide for those in need. The native Maori have the same (if not more) rights than any other New Zealander including more access to social aid.
Yeah that's right. I'm Maori myself, and I'm proud of it, but I was also brought up in a very hard working family. We didn't have a lot growing up but what we did have we worked hard for so it annoys me to death when I hear about people talking about poverty. It's just a total attitude issue.
Also, you only have to drive for about an hour to find hectare upon hectare of native bush. It's like you've stood on your doorstep of a quake struck city and looked around your immediate vicinity and complained that there isn't the lower shoulder of Mt. Cook surrounded by native bush sitting 10 metres away from you.
It's done. I sold everything I had. Now I buy armor, bow, horse, new clothes and I go directly to this beautiful, stunning, unbelievable and mysterious land. Hobbiton, here I am!
