...wait a minute, you took 80 cars, then promptly dismissed 75 for Car of the Year simply because they aren't new for 2022. This makes no sense! Definition of 2022 Car of the Year is pretty simple; it should be the best car that can be bought new in 2022 (you even have it in your title: "The Best You Can Buy"). C'mon team, you can do better than that...

"the drivers slogged it through the rain and mud" - well, I'm sure with the cabin temperature set to a comfy level, with the heated seats on also.. Let's not pretend that driving these things is a hard job guys LOL.

This award and comparisons have fundamental issues in my opinion. You don't consider all current and available cars on the market!
How can you select a winner in one category without considering the best car in that category just because it's made last year! Even though that car still being made in 2022! Just doesn't make sense to me.
With this logic, Melbourne couldn't win the most livable city in the world more than once.

Just bought mine in GT-line with the 1.6 turbo in snow white pearl which i test drove and was superb. I get that the transmission might not be perfect but for the standard family buyer who just wants a practical and comfortable vehicle it ticks all the boxers and more. Delivery in 3 days so will give an update once I've got to know the vehicle a little better.

A well thought out choice in my view. As a family car compared to the old Falcon/Commodore; it puts them in the shade. Families are covered for size, safety and finish, whilst the enthusiast can go to the GT Line for a bit more pizzazz, if not the thrills.

Why does every car reviewer get the bloody coat hanger on the back of the seat wrong!?!?! The Kia Sportage manual is downloadable and I’m sure there would have been one in the glove box of the model they tested. It clearly says that the back of the headrest is a coat hanger. Not a tablet or iPhone holder!!!! Just looking at it should tell you that.
And if you are a car reviewer you should be pronouncing Porsche correctly. The E is hard and pronounced!

  • @jerrymyahzcat

How can you test a 2022 car for 12 months when it’s only March of 2022. I know the MY22 vehicle is released prior to 2022 but surely not as early as Mar 2021? And either way if it wasn’t manufactured in 2022 it’ll be a 2021 vehicle with MY22 designation.
Does it have a 7 seat option? No. Does it have a light coloured interior - unsure. So sick of all the black interiors. I will never buy a dark interior car again having owned several with cream or tan leather interior.
And the AWD only comes in diesel and the 2WD only comes in petrol. Should be both options with both engines. Another reason not to buy. I would only buy an AWD but I only buy petrol so it’s not even near my list. And what is someone wants a 2WD diesel for economy - not an option.

This award is pretty pointless tbh. A car is excluded if it's been on sale for more than 12 months. The Kia Sportage has in fact lost in comparison reviews to the Subaru Forester. Yet you are suggesting that buyers should avoid anything made in preceding years, as it can't possibly be better. I also cannot see how a golf would not be a better car, than the Sportage. That is an argument for another day.

Having some obvious motoring knowledge are you aware the new Outlander runs Nissan engine, troublesome Nissan sourced gearbox and suspension?……based on Nissan’s poor reliability ratings your choice is a contradiction to reliability comments on the Kia.
I have driven the new Outlander in standard petrol, it’s a poor performer, the New PHEV is much better with the 2.4 Mitsi engine and electric motor however still handles and rides terrible due to Nissan sourced suspension set up:-)…..
