I love to see the reactions on my kids' faces when they see these old 80's action films. They get more excited with these car chases than they do with the unrealistic CGI crap of today. Real cars, Real drivers, Real.
Yep, one would have to be crazy to drive an original 1950 Mercury to hell like that. I've always been a GM / Chevy fan but I still have a love for a lot of older classic cars regardless of the manufacturer. Movie companies use a lot of replica bodies anyway when they do a lot of smash n' crash scenes.
It was a Plymouth Volare, and judging by the exhaust sound, it wasn't exactly factory stock. Granted, the car used for the chase probably wasn't customized in the least, but we're obviously supposed to believe it was. V8, rear wheel drive, light weight....it definitely has the right initial ingredients.
Want another one? Tango and Cash. Armored weaponized SUV. GTA V definitely stole an idea from this one as well cuz the car in this movie, on the game its the Albany Hermes.

a lot of bad movies have great action sequences in them, i think. it's more do your stunt men step up, is the stunt coordinator good, and is the cinematographer good.
Awsome you shoud try to watch this chase video on mute while playing Another Girl Another Planet by Blink 182 because these two videos flow together like an oprah
They built four leadsled 1950 Mercurys for this movie, all with 454ci engines, three were destroyed during this chase. It was the best thing about the film. As I recall the last 20 minutes sucked.
This might be splitting hairs, but when Cobra sees the boat and realizes they'll crash there is nothing under the boat.... then when the car crashes there is a car under it that looks a lot like the one the badguys were driving.... is there an alternate version of this scene where the bad guys crash?
you are probably right.......but watch a classic stock drag race, the cars look like they are doing 40 when they are actually doing like 100, its weird, i think its because we are use to seeing 10 sec cars or stock cars doing 200mph
Wait a minute, at 2:27-2:32, how did they get from the bridge to the docks? maybe they probably cut some scenes out of the car chase scenes because, Imdb trivia Says that there was a 2 hour cut of the film.
I love this movie, but dude should have been stopped. Shitmobile couldn't of had no more than 80 on dash. And they got away and messed up the beautiful car.
7sec no bullet holes. 12sec car facing forward. 40sec fender disappeared. 49sec damage on white car, 50sec jump was bs, 56sec white car fixed itself bs. 1:20 how is busting through bars that easy at an angle. 1:30 traffic open middle lane bs. 1:35 see a RPM TACH. 1:35 no crash or boom but some rods instead. 1:39 white car fixed again. 2:39 no bullet holes white car. 2:40 boat no car then car under boat. This doesnt have shit on "Ronin" which was real as possible not fake like this.

Someone found the surviving car from the movie and restored it. I saw on the web somewhere. It has a turbo 350 Chevy V8 and a 0-60 of 4 seconds.
