Played on a Big R yesterday, best I've ever touched. I played on DW, recording customs, and my kit is full African mahogany. Butt-ugly fake wood wraps, but the metallic, sparkles, and solid colors are gorgeous. Absolutely the best sounding vintage set IMHO, and can play anything (it was at a jazz jam). The hardware is rock-solid, and the coating inside the shells means those are the only vintage 3 plies/re-rings I trust. Also for the price, are you kidding me...! I am getting one as we speak!

I think those are 5 ply birch/maple. There are videos on RUclips that go into more details, also the vintage drum guide website has old catalog scans, badge information and more.

Cool drums. I never did like the hardware from this time period. Big tubular, ugly. But if it works, it works.
