- After the original arms bending and snapping over the car from a slight breeze while away on a trip (not a good way to start a weekend) I came up with this idea..
What would you have done? Let us know in the comments.

Hi Troy. ,great video and great idea. Would like to do this upgrade to m my awning. Any chance of you publishing the dimensions to save others the hassle of trying to work it out? Would be appreciated.

exact same thing happened to me, thanks for sharing mate. I will follow your video and give it a crack!
Nice piece of info to know Troy. I had been looking at video's on the XTM 270 Degree Awning when I found your Mod Video. One big difference between those expensive 270 Degree Awnings and the more affordable one like ETM and Kings, is the type of frame structure between the two . . . ETM and Kings are a more tubular light weight frame compared to the Box Type frame of the more expensive brands. But this video of your's just goes to show how you can carryout a reasonably cheap Modification to provide a heap of extra strength to the XTM 270 Degree Awning,
I think you just persuaded Me to locked in My next purchase of a XTM 270 Degree Awning which I'll look at up-grading before mounding to My 4WD.
Thanks so much for the feedback, its such a simple procedure anyone can give it a go 🤙🏼

Awesome little video Troy, doing heaps better infront of the camera bud. Love the mod you did. Maybe companies should take notice.
Yeah definitely feel more confident in front of the camera but I still get nervous as hell when people are around, but only stuffed up a few takes this time 😂
@@walkabout_adventures make a joke of it. When people are around just make someone laugh.
Awesome upgrade mate, so glad you didn't just send it to landfill!
@@offgrid_explora616 was tempted 😂 but I found a way 🤙

Hey Troy,
Have had the XTM 270 mounted on my patrol for about 12months now. I never free stand it at all, as you say the sag point is terrible. So all pole all the time for me and I was sick of guide ropes.
So I went out and got supapeg peggable feet. Attached them to all the pole and go around with a 18volt impact gun and screw in pegs. Takes set up to absolutely seconds.
I leave the ropes attached so it's easy as, yeah I screw in pegs too. 1min set up 👌

hey troy what feet you use?
Using what used to be the inbuilt, twist lock, drop down legs.. I cut the plastic pivot point off and put a spigot on and drilled a hole in the bottom side of the new arms for it to slip up into.
Hope that makes sense
@@walkabout_adventures thanks mate , what size tube are the legs on the awnings
The only thing I would add is some tube inside the the box section over the bolts like a collar
Ah yeah, not a bad idea.

Hey Mate do you store the poles in the bag with the rest of the awning?
Yes I do, as well as the tension strap
Did you change the aluminium box section out to make it stronger?
It had really thin alloy tube which struggled to keep itself up with swinging it out to set up..now this way with the box section, it will never flip over again.

Hi Troy great job on the video and the mods you have done. Could you please tell me how far in from the end of the box section did you drill the hole to suit the bracket.
Thanks
Used the old knuckle as a template, placed it at the end of the length with the round bit of the knuckle level with the end of the length, then stick a pencil/marker through the hole to mark where to drill. Hope that makes sense

Hi mate nice job there from all of mods and DIYs, I’m on my own at the moment, still at the beginning…. I like Yours the most since light construction and not complicated ideas. Can you please give us idea how long are those horizontal poles and are they actually same length or each for their owns? Thanx
Cheers, unfortunately i dont remember off the top of my head, please message our Instagram or Facebook page so I remember to measure for you 🤙🏼
