I've done taekwondo all my life, I'm only just starting out on my boxing journey now. For actual self defense do boxing. But no other martial art on this earth can teach you the amazing science of kicking as taekwondo can.
Exactly, I started in taekwondo when I was really little. Once I got into boxing I was comfortable at range but as soon as my sparring partner would get in the pocket I felt uncomfortable and overwhelmed, it's just something you have to get used to. If the taekwondo practitioner has a decent level of boxing knowledge they can easily set up the pure boxer for a headkick. Everything's good to know but if it's one or the other I'm picking boxing.
I've done both, TKD is more fun, it's quicker and it hurts less, especially since your getting less hard hits to the head. but boxing seems much more effective for combat outside of tournaments Edit: also one of the main differences is that boxing is full contact. That is probably theain and most overlooked factor that separates sport from self defense. I would rather fight a Karate black belt who has only fought semi contact tournaments than a football hooligan that gets into a real brawl every other week...
There are different places of Tae kwon do tho my first experience of Tae kwon do was self defense. Now I’m in an athlete class which is just conpetirive
but what style of boxing though? Switch stance? southpaw? there's a lot of boxing styles out there. If you learn boxing I suggest southpaw, it could work well with taekwondo when you pivot.
As much as I love using my legs because they're the most powerful weapon I've got on me I focus better while boxing. I can hit and slip better that way, but I'm sure that kickboxing is the perfect mix. I don't have to use my kicks as often so I can stay more planted.

I’m a Red belt in TaeKwonDo (I quit 5 years ago to join the army cadets) and I am currently a boxer and a gym rat so best to say I know my way around both of these 🤣 they are both extremely affective. TaeKwonDo taught me how to be hard and fast with my kicks and how to be an escape artist along with some good grips but boxing taught me how to be speedy with my hands and how to keep a better guard. So combining these both are very effective for your fighting style.
So if you joined army cadets your obviously also a child and I couldn’t see you having any experience with fighting or combat sports, so how would you know what’s effective or not? Google? 😂

I've done both, and taekwondo's main problem is it relies on long distance, and the guard isn't really tight. I'd say taekwondo is best suited for tall people, for short people you'd rather use a Muay Thai fighting style, with kicks but tight guard for short combat. (it's my opinion, I may be wrong)
As a boxer, taekwondo looks sick. But everytime I seen one of them try to fight they get done. Punching is just faster, more reliable, accurate, usable in more situations m and does more than enough damage to switch someone’s lights off. Taekwondo is cool but boxing is just an art form of a sport
That's usually because the modern application of taekwondo generally isnt full contact therefore their fighting experience is limited. Taekwondo can indeed be effective in a fight as long as you know what you're doing. For me personally, im primarily a grappler, and if someone goes for any high kicks or flying kicks they're getting their ass handed to them. Which is why Boxing is more practical in the streets since the practice yall put in is pretty much just a fight. That being said quite a few taekwondo techniques are actually supposed to be used against horse mounted opponents which is why it has flying kicks and what not in the first place
All depends on the specific fighters. I grew up doing both and still practice both regularly. I can say that boxing is for the most part more practical. Doing all those jumping and/or high kicks in a fight can be dangerous especially against someone who knows how to wrestle. Both are great in their own ways and not easy to master.
yeah, are you comparing really pretty simple and honestly inefficient fast armwork in a non-point combat situation to boxing, the quintessential fist fighting discipline? You got to be kidding. For boxing, it is easier to apply after a short amount of training, but for TKD, you need to learn it for a long time to master lot of different kicks and combinations.
Not really. For tkd, you need to practice combinations. For boxing, you need to make your body harder since you need to get used to the punches. Tough one. Legs are stronger, more hard hitting and have greater reach. But arms are faster, more explosive and can deliver a rapid succession of punches in between defending from the kicks, assuming you can get in range. I would say that if Taekwondo can land a few hard hits and keeps the boxer at distance then he takes the win. But if the boxer is tough, patient and picks his spots and shots he can wear down the other guy.
But they are slower and dont have knuckles a heel is nasty but its facing the wrong direction , a good boxer will move out of the way of a kick and theyd come in close where the only one kick that can reach , but a jab is quicker than a knee or elbow,
Putting pressure on a taekwondo or karate fighter is, neutralize their kicks and keep them at a range where they can’t kick and pounding their ribs in is the keys
legs are stronger but slower but have more range but come from below but don't have knuckles but the heel is harder hitting but facing away from the opponent and you need to balance on one while kicking with the other, you don't want to fall over and get pounced on and pummeled, and if you hurt your leg or legs and are losing the battle you can't even run away because the legs are injured badly
You've never actually had any fights have you? Last place you wanna be in a fight is standing on one leg against someone who can throw 4 punches a second. And IF you are going to use kegs Thai boxing is the way to go not these point fighting TKD clowns 🤣
@Mateo Hodge inaccurate. Ima flat foot fighter so I use more shoulders and back to hit. I’m also Polynesian so it might be genetics on why I hit the way I do. Hips can help but I feel no difference if I pivot or turn my hips more. Arms definitely help.

Learn both! Since taekwondo primarily focuses on kicking (I know it teaches more than that) and boxing focuses on punching, put them together and you can create your own kind of ‘kick-boxing’.
You'll end up with something like american kickboxing, which is pretty much a forgotten thing now, you'll need a third one to add what is lacking to both like elbows, knees, low kicks and such.

@@your_fathers full body awareness and control i think?
@@carolinas1s1s1 Yep. Also known as propioception, it refers to proper awareness of your body and limbs, and their position at any given time. Most of us move in autopilot when going about our day-to-day, but when you're fighting you need to be aware of your body to another degree: sometimes the smallest details can make or break a fight.
Of course, martial arts aren't the only way propioception is developed: in fact, I'd argue dancers are the epitome of body awareness. But Tae Kwon Do has a lot of flashy techniques, and those call for really good control of your body.
Indeed it does! The smallest details could hinder or improve your kicks, and give you that extra push to win a fight.
Yes that is true it also teaches discipline
Usually it’s who can adapt to the fighter.
If the boxer can make his opponent throw kicks that allow him to shorten the distance, he’ll most likely win.

Not really. For tkd, you need to practice combinations. For boxing, you need to make your body harder since you need to get used to the punches. Also, you need to practice footwork, being able to dodge, and timing. Boxing takes more time and patience. Boxing is more effective for fighting fighters, too.
@@edjaedavid6362 I don't disagree with you. Boxing is more effective for sure. As a Korean, I learned TKD when I was a kid for quite a long time. I wasn't able to apply it whenever I got into a fight with other kids(not serious fights) although I have a black belt cuz there were too many poomse's(First poom all the way up to I don't know lol). That's why I said it is hard for me to apply,. However, after learning boxing just for 3 months, I was able to apply it in a ring quite well and never forgot the fundamentals. Of course, training for boxing was way harder.
@@k-lift1396 if you practice your footwork, agility and strength, it would be better for you. Are you a southpaw or not?
@@edjaedavid6362 I quit boxing a long time ago. When I did boxing, I was an orthodox. Just one year of training done with boxing, nothing serious lol. I'd switched to judo and crossfit for awhile before I joined the army.
crap boxing is more effective and a lot of training if you want to attain a lot more the most important in the fight is strong endurance, stamina, effective jab and footwork I don't see anyone tkd good in fighting it's crazy to watch

Slower legs mean that boxer can grab and knock the taekwondo player quickly with enough force to the head
in taekwondo you learn boxing
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
"Backshot?"
Leg kick!
Boxing : More using hands
Taekwondo : More using kicks
Fact is taekwondo will lose. Go for a kick 1 hit to the side and your up the floor
So Taekwondo is like a .50 BMG, and Boxing is like an Assault Rifle
Boxing you have both an Amy and a sniper
The ultimate self-defense technique a human can do could be performed with the strongest limb a human have, and that's the leg
Run
😂😂
You've never actually had any fights have you? Last place you wanna be in a fight is standing on one leg against someone who can throw 4 punches a second. And IF you are going to use kegs Thai boxing is the way to go not these point fighting TKD clowns 🤣
if the person can beat you up they can most definitely catch up to you when you run
@@brianmason8059 no, I mean run
At least go to the nearest help if possible
@@Trathien- not the heavy ones
They hit like a truck, floats like a truck
I'm a Boxer I enjoy watching taekwondo Ha ha
I did TKD for 5 years and I can say its probably more tougher to increase kicking strength then arm strength but boxing takes it in a real match.
@Mateo Hodge inaccurate. Ima flat foot fighter so I use more shoulders and back to hit. I’m also Polynesian so it might be genetics on why I hit the way I do. Hips can help but I feel no difference if I pivot or turn my hips more. Arms definitely help.
@Mateo Hodge been training my whole life 😂. Look at David tua. Nobody said you had to have big arms to hit. But your arms do most of the work for the power if you have 0 power your pivot isn’t and turning of the hips isn’t enough if you don’t have the power to back it up.
@Mateo Hodge everyone is different. I know plenty of Polynesian people who have no teq while they fight and they still win because of brute force. Don’t underestimate the size difference. Because size does matter. Otherwise you’d have Ryan Garcia going against heavyweights.
@Mateo Hodge and the average boxer hits at 700 pounds of force so you hitting 200 pounds means you are weak af 😂. Get up boy.
@Mateo Hodge lmao you think you hit 200 pounds of force because that’s what you weigh 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 holy fuck that was good.
