7.43 - I guess this is workshop for making things from animal bones and antlers. Like tools for sewing clothes, like needle, or figurines for game sets. The viking equivalent of chess game is called ' Hnefa-tafl ' The guy showed them when he said that its viking chess game. :) the tall wooden logs with sculpted and painted faces are probably tribal totems, maybe images of the tribe's dead ancestors. they protect the tribe. :) As to the animal furs - its basic need in the climes when winter temperatures can span from October to March :)

Yes, Norway is indeed beautiful. We always have thought so here too. But, in the Vikings days, the climate, the weather, the seasons and the long winter made for many challenges. Specially place to farm and food to eat. It was very hard lives I think. But great culture, I always feel a loss for our culture, there is so little left of it in modern society. But some is still here.

wait, so you actualy dont have something we call " historic reconstruction movement " in Brazil ? Its huuuge in Europe :) with tribal places like this - open museums and skansens, and with groups of historians, archeologists and regular hobbists who work together in reconstruction of speciphic places or events, like battles (from the bronze age to the II WW battles ), or reconstruction of different tribes (like Romans, Celts, vikings, or ancient Greeks), and of different military formations (like knights, or musketeers, or husars). We so love it here :) And of course the most popular are big medieval tournaments with teams from many countries and regions of Europe who meet to fight in international games and to show their costumes and to share the knowledge of history. Lots of knowledge, lots of fun, lots of cameraderie and sport :) Knights tourments here is actual sport, with actual national and regional leages and real awards from real sponsors :)

I should be said though, that although interesting and beautiful, the houses are not even close to be historical correct - they're way to modern !

@@0cosmic Well - but "unlikely" has nothing to do with whether it's a good idea or for that matter realistic !
"Unlikely" is purely a question of will and knowledge amongst the "elite" in charge - and looking at them, I would probably have to agree with you.
But that however shouldn't stop us for reaching for what is obviously the right way to go !

I just felt the structure of them is a bit too modern :) Seems more like cottages from 15th century not 7th.
