This was the first DVD i ever bought for my own money. I was about 11 years old, and had been saving up for it. I remember watching it almost daily whenever i went to bed. I was a complete Slipknot fanatic, everything i did had something to do with their music or the band. I drew them all the time, i would watch the DVD with my cat, every school project i made, somehow i attempted to incorporate Slipknot. Makes me so unbelieably nostalgic. It almost hurts. The only merch i still have from that time, was the very first Slipknot poster i ever bought. Probably going to keep it until i cant.
did you have to hide it from your parents to? I did the same thing you did around 11-12 years old, but it had the parental advisory on it so i had to hide it
Everything in life changes mate! Nothing can be the same always, accept it or not. If u can't stand the change that's very immature. U should stop getting stuck in the past and grow up at once. Besides, they were young, had more energy and had shitty lives (they had a horrible time during the iowa period, full of drugs, alcohol and they couldn't stand each other. it was an epic era of slipknot but only for the presence of the fans, but for the guys in the band it was a misery that they themselves admit they don't want to remember or go back to that ever. It was physical and psychological torture. They were dark times for them despite the incredible concerts full of adrenaline. Behind the scenes and behind the cameras it was always conflict and addictions, and all it was frustration they expressed it in an extreme way doing extreme things on stage lol especially Corey, he was so frustrated and angry about everything, drunk, smoked a lot and was a drug addict. Literally with the screams of fury that he did he seriously fucked his throat, to the point of even coughing up blood since it was just hard screaming without any vocal technique. Now they are not young anymore for such things now. They are all grown up, they have matured, they have changed, they are older... you can't ask them to be the same as they were 20 years ago when they were young. Furthermore, change is not always necessarily bad and the same things as always is not necessarily good and most acceptable. Everything changes, people change and Slipknot is no exception. And like I said, at that time they were totally screwed mentally and physically, almost all of them died because of how extreme the iowa environment was. And although I like more the aggressiveness of the old band albums and all the old adrenaline of the concerts, behind all that there was a very dark and tense undertone, drugs and more drugs, but now they changed from that and nobody wants to go back to that. And they wanted to change to change their physical and mental health. And I prefer them to be in good health to return to all that insane madness and rather than to please all that the fans ask for and their whims.
Corey has always said that he likes to change and do new things with new styles, and not stay stuck in the same. And Corey himself has said "Because no one stays the same forever". That is why he always also constantly changes his masks.
@@sasquatchhimself they are different people bro, people who are pushing their late 40s will never have the same angst and anger that they had in their 20s
It’s worth noting that when they originally filmed this, it was captured at 50fps, but it was lowered down to 24 frames per second, probably due to artistic reasons and they needed to somehow get PAL footage to playback properly on NTSC televisions sets without technical problems. I can confirm this, as in the 2011 documentary which is called goat, they use footage from the disasterpieces concert but it’s running at a much higher framerate, it’s when Corey talks about Paul Gray.
It was 2004 when I heard Slipknot for the first time. A friend of mine gave me the official "Disasterpieces" DVD. It includes the live performance in London (with the capability of switching to different cameras) along with some of their early video clips. Back then I was more of a hip-hop guy hating metal stuff, and I don't really remember why I asked my friend to give me that DVD. Well, my life changed at that moment. I was so impressed by their performance, the way they played, the way they looked the way they headbanged. I didn't understand a shit what they were singing about 'cause I didn't know English at all, but the music made me addicted. That was such an incredible and important turning point in my perception of music. And that, kids, is how I got into metal. P.S. I can't believe I am going to their concert in Estonia for the very first time next month! I thought I'd never see them live. Dreams come true
Similar experience for me .. was and still am a total HipHop head (I listened to every genre though) but a classmate had a Slipknot cd back then .. 2005 maybe .. got curious .. looked them up on RUclips .. saw Joey on the drums .. couldn’t believe my eyes and ears .. fell for him, fell for Slipknot, fell for metal .. end of the love story but the love is still going strong 😂
My first ever gig was two nights before this in Glasgow. We skipped school, queued like 3 hours to meet them at the in store signing. Went to the gig, and I was so tired after it, I actually couldn’t speak when I got home. I passed out. Best day of our lives at that point. And there simply isn’t a better experience for your first live show. Absolutely ridiculous
makes me so sad knowing i’ll never experience this because i’m 17 😭😭 wish i couldve been born wayyyy earlier to see this amazing performance and the old lineup
I remember my older sister buying me this DVD when it first came out, I was already a fan but this just changed everything for me. the energy they put out in this was so fucking intense and I'm so grateful I grew up on this music.
I say to myself all the time, if I had a time machine, I'd do nothing with it but go back in time to concerts I was either not alive to see myself or too young to. This one has always been at the top of that list. Too bad I was only 5 at the time.
Well, I did see a 8 year old kid in the last Slipknot concert, in Mexico, Monterrey Machaca Fest, and it was cute and hilarious, with all the drunk crazy mens around
