    STUNNING! Enough said. Just Amazing!
An amazing & talented driven group of musicians, cover a late '90's hit by another beyond talent, Shawn Colvin.
    Cheers & Be Well.

Brillant..surprised Ive never heard anyone else cover this song. You turned a Shawn Colvin song into a traditional Irish folk song.

Music on the telly doesn't get any better than this - beautiful song, soulful singer - a band of angels...Jerry Douglas is perfection, and the holy Danny Thompson....thanks for this.

This is one of the greatest performances I have ever heard. It just blows me away! Why is nobody picking up on this?

If you want a technical answer...The instruments overpowered her voice. She came across as weak against the mostly world-renowned band members. Her voice is beautiful and sweet. The band is incredible, but the mix was wrong. I saved this as a favorite and will continue to personally enjoy it.

@@davidrdeger I think turning Shawn Colvin into Irish Folksong needed the instruments to take over. I think it is brilliant cover.

Lord we miss these sessions on UK tele. The British and Irish musicians along with the contingent from the USA made some of the best music we had heard live for ages. I don't suppose there will be any more will there anyone??

I realize the metaphor this song is, but it has another meaning to me. When it first came out, I was a professional ski patroller. To me the title was about the Grim Reaper that quietly sat on our shoulders in the mountains just waiting for a mistake. . This song may have saved more than one ski patroller or back country skier's life as it is a constant reminder of the deadly danger of snow. It hits particularly hard since one of the patrollers I worked with was crushed to death and another came within several minutes of dying. It takes this sort of message to get through the head of a young man who believes himself invincible. Truly, I appreciate the perhaps unintended message from Shawn's lovely song and Cara's voice.

Hmm.....Jerry's dobro... an "American" invention actually designed in 1932 by an immigrant mandolin maker from Slovakia, John Dopyera (with some help from his dad and brother).
That's what I love about acoustic music...it has allowed musicians to adopt instruments from all over the world and alter them to suit the music they play. In bluegrass, the guitar is from Spain, the mandolin, mandola and bouzouki are from Greece, the banjo is from Africa, the upright bass and fiddle are from Italy. Only the dobro can thinly be called a "American" invention.

Andrew Palmer, I agree with you that Cara is an angel from heaven. I am not religious but I do believe that whatever or whoever God is (the power that is greater than us); God sends people like Cara to the earth to give relief and peace to us mere mortals. I hope your heart is well and that you are happy.

I’m a huge Shawn Colvin fan. Always have been. This song was the first gem off her first album that I fell in love with. She’s amazing. Guess I always compare covers to her original. The song covers are still good-just don’t have the zing. Cheers.

No offense intended to the performers. But Stringman, I'm with you. This is one of those songs/performances that, in my opinion, CANNOT be covered.
(And I just saw Ms. Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter last night, December 6, in Thousand Oaks, CA.)

I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Tumbling and falling down the avalanche
    So be quiet tonight
    The stars shine bright
On this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise my voice into the void
You have left me nowhere to go
And I love you so much and it's so bizarre
A mystery that goes on and on and on
This is the best thing and the very most hard
    Oh we don't get along
    And after countless appeals
    We keep spinning our wheels
On this mountain of new fallen snow
So I let go the catch and we are over the edge
You have left me nowhere to go
And I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Sometimes you make me lose my will to live
And just become a beacon for your soul
But the past is stronger than my will to forgive
Forgive you or myself, well I don't know
I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Tumbling and falling down the avalanche
    So be quiet tonight
    Be sure to step lightly
On this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise up my voice into the void
You have left me nowhere to go
And I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
