Great video as always Jimmy! I initially ordered the M3 version and upgraded the RAM to 16GB until I realized that it was only $200 to get all the benefits of M3 Pro, more than double the RAM of the base model, better processor, extra thunderbolt port, space black color, ability to drive 2 external displays, better thermals. Ended up canceling my order and getting the base M3 Pro and am currently typing this on that device, super happy with my purchase!
Thank you for this comment, I’m literally on the same page as you except I didn’t even place my first order. I’ll go with the M3 Pro for that extra $200
Just ordered the m3 pro 14 inch with 18 gigs and 512 gigs. I spent a bit more money than id like. But its also a laptop i can use for many years. So its good
Finally, a video that speaks to all types of users. He used terms and phrases that actually helped me figure out which one I am going to get. Thank you!
Since using Windows since 98 I don't miss it at all. I love my MacBook Pro M3PRO especially using it along with my iPhone. It's been 5 months of MacOS now & I love it!
I only buy like the last generation as far as laptops go since I don't upgrade my laptop every year. I'd probably wait until the M4 comes out then the M3 would be discounted.
I am watching every single macbook video I can find on the M3. I just received my very first macbook myself. The 16 m3 max with 64gb of memory and 2tb of storage. I have always been a windows guy and I still love my windows machine but it is very slow compared to this mac. i have wanted a mac since the M1. I plan on taking youtube a lot more serious now and I wanted something that I know can last me for at least 5 years if not longer which is why I went with the higher spec model.
Thank you sm for this review cause I was genuinely considering getting the M3 Pro 14 inch for my first laptop but you made me reconsider and now I've decided to get the M2 Air 15 inch 🙏
Thank you for a nice review. I have a 14" M1Pro / 16 GB, and I am considering switching to the same size, the M3 Pro model with 18 GB. One other thing - please make a review on the Soundcore speaker you've shown in this video and, if you can, compare it to the Sonos Move :) All of the best!

I'm calling them out Hopefully others will also and they will allow booting from external drives when the internal SSD dies in the future. If not this should be an instant no buy for all professionals and businesses ... Plus the fact that when you sell your Mac you cannot take out and destroy the SSD, meaning that data can be retrieved by the new owner if they are clever enough, making mac's bad for enterprise leases. As the whole machine must be destroyed instead of just the SSD for full security. Let's not let apple get away with this. If they fix this and I just did not hear it yet I apologize😊
@@woofiooxx most laptops over the last 8 years are good enough for basic things even phones and tablets. They all benefit from more ram faster larger ssds more ports better speaker 120hz when or higher OLED mini led TB egpu etc. MacBook air is s great machine
No one has 10 browser taps open and just rendering a video. More like 30 taps, rendering video, watching RUclips, downloading stuffs, and jumping in and out of 10 different apps from Word Processing, Note, Excel and PowerPoint, etc. 8GB will never be enough.
I do not think most people are doing that. None of my family have that workflow, nor does anyone I know. Most have 8GB Windows laptops and are fine. Of course, you need to apply common sense, which sadly goes MIA in the comment section, so a person like you would be better suited by 16GB or more. We all have different user cases and for the vast majority 8GB is fine (buy more if you can afford it), but power users or pros/semi-pros need more RAM.
I have Macbook Pro from 2018 and I don't edit videos or anything like that. I just use it for browsing lol and I will still go with 14inch M3 Pro and 18GB Ram
I have the 16inch M1Pro and gotta say its a powerhouse, I dont see the need to upgrade for a very long time, I havent even pushed the M1Pro chip to its limits and I sometimes render 4k HDR or 8k video
I went from a base M1 Mac Mini to the 12 core 14" M3 MacBook Pro with the Pro chip. The gains I get are.. Multi core 8453 > 15486 Single core 2355 > 3140 External monitors 1 > 2 (3 including the built in screen) Ram. 8 > 18 My biggest reason was to use 2 4K Samsung external monitors and the additional 10GB of ram. I was able to get my M1 Mac mini to drive a 4K Samsung monitor and a 1080 LG monitor, but the quality on the second monitor lacking due to the M1 not natively made for 2 monitors. But going from 8GB of ram on the mini to 18GB of ram on the MB Pro was noticeable. Getting the M3 Pro chip is based on what you already have, going from a M2 Pro to a M3 Pro is a no go, you only get slight performance gains. But going from a base M1 to a M3 Pro chip, Hell yes !!
How is the battery ? I'm considering the 12 core version as well but worried it might have noticeably lower battery than the 11 core version, I don't need the extra GPU, just the extra CPU since I am a programmer.
I just upgraded from a 2015 Retina 15" and this is of course a huge difference. I got the space black which is cool, but not loving the fact that I see more finger prints on it.
I often have the Problem when i work with high Intensity on My m3 Pro 3000€ that Safari often Laggs. Anything Else runs smoothly. If i Look on activity Manager i use 14 gib ram and 3-4 gib swap. Any tips for My Situation or is This normal ?
Man that Pro, Pro pronouning must be very tough job for you in that video. I hate when major vendors like Apple, MS do that kind of werido marketing names
I get stuck on the fact that M2 Pro's 16gb ram is 200gb/s and M3 Pro's 18gb ram is 150gb/s. Which is actually better in terms of ram?? Less information can travel at once with M3, .. but it can.. store more information to be used at any given time compared to M2.. am I understanding this correctly?
For the average M3 Pro MB Pro user, are you ever going to need 200Gbps speed? What tasks do you do that need that bandwidth? The pros that need that bandwidth will buy the M3 Max MB Pro. The reason Apple did it was that each RAM module has a max throughput of 50Mbps and because Apple has switched to 6GB modules (3X6GB=18GB), they only need 50GbpsX3=150Gbps, so 200Gbps is excess. The M2 MB Pro had 4GB modules, 4X4GB at 50Gbps each= 200Gbps.
What's your take on the M series chip security flaw ? The odds of actually being affected I think are pretty low but with no sign of a fix by Apple and the number of refurb units being available higher than with previous models (users tend to hang onto their Macs for way longer than a MS machine simply because they are sooo expensive), therefore resale values are going to be lower of affected models. I was about to pull the trigger on an MBP M3 but going to hold fire until fixed or even go back to MS for my next daily ride despite having MBP 2017, iPhone and love the Apple Ecosystem. Really enjoy your reviews and videos.....

If one isn't in a professional crunch time environment, the M1 Max will suffice towards being able to do the same tasks as M3, albeit slower time wise. While this test showcases Max variants, it pretty much highlights the sort of general leaps that M3 is offering as a whole.
Awesome video Jimmy. Really helpful.. Just want to know your thoughts for someone who does both video and photo editing as well as after effect. which mac would you recommend. m3pro or m3max thanks
Great review from a Pro :-) Well, technically everything is not black because you turn off the light. It retains it's color, you just can't see it :-) Great review as always!
Hey man, i am using the M1 air right now and it works like a beast and I could use it for years to come, but with time my RAM usage has increased by quite a bit which my current mac cannot handle. This is the reason why I'm upgrading to the new beast by apple, the M3 pro chip
Same case here, M1 Air w/8GB ram is not enough anymore. It was a great first taste of what Silicon offers, but now the time has come and I'm waiting for my M3 Pro with 36GB. I assume that will be my daily machine for the next 5 years!
Yeah @@n.r.c.w , That is why I took the m3 pro so that it works comfortably for me. I really love how the MacBook is a timeless piece specially with the Apple Silicon chipsets
This video made me think of my setup. I have the m2 air with 16gb mem and 512. Love it. Had a m1 max binned with 64gb 16”. It was great. That said it was such a brick. I own an agency and use Adobe (mostly Illustrator and PS, Indesign) and FCP. I am not going to tell you the m1 max was the same as the mba. Of course it’s faster but honestly for what I do it feels very sim and the form factor is so awesome sauce. Even using it on an apple studio display and very good. Apple Silicon to me feels like for the vast majority of users the lower end model with 16gb ram is more than enough. It’s so easy to get caught up in all the benchmarks and the clickbairt and thumbnails it’s easy to forget that it is needed to do what we need it to do. Eventually I might get the 15” but honestly I really like the smaller size and along with an ipad pro when I travel it is a really good amount of screen.
If you're using this thing for work? Yeah. Get 16GB or more. But I wouldn't say people who use a machine to just web surf or stream content need 16GB. Agreed on the refurb part though! Those M2 Pro MacBooks are a real good way to save money.
@@Applefanboy2012nope. Go with the pro. That little bit of extra money gets you so much more. Also i use an 8gb mac mini m1 with a studio display as my main desktop. Never felt the need to have more ram otherwise i would have. Will never buy anything less than 16gb on windows but i have yet to feel the need for more than 8 on apple silicon. Yes with all the tabs open. Yes with 5k basic video edits and exports.
@@ZeerakImran if just for web surfing and stream, air is fine. A “pro” w 8 gb shouldn’t even exist. The real pro MacBooks are the MX Pro and MX Max chips
@@Applefanboy2012 it should exist because you’ll be amazed at what you can get done on there. Plus that display alone at £1600 blows everything else out of the water. No other laptop at that price has a display that can compete while also having the best trackpad, probably best microphones, probably best dac, wifi 6e, best battery life, no heat, no fan noise, stability, durability, reliability and so so much more. Trust me. Don’t underestimate the 8gb model. I personally would buy a second hand m1 MacBook pro 16inch but for anyone getting the macbook pro 8gb, they’re getting an insane package compared to the rest of the laptop market. The best competing laptops can’t even get their trackpads right. If the 8gb laptop can’t be a pro, then no windows laptop can be considered a pro period.
Great video! Would you recommend upgrading to this model from a 2017 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar? I use photoshop and illustrator daily and CLO3D occasionally. Would I need to upgrade the ram? Thanks.
Not sure how demanding CLO3D is, but the 18GBs of ram was enough for my video workflows and my light photo editing usage for YT thumbnails. If you're saying occasional use. 18GB seems like enough.
I don’t know why anyone would buy a machine with less than 16GB unified memory and 1TB SSD. Why? Because if you’re going to spend $1500+ on a laptop, then you should make sure it’s not going to be e-waste in 2 years. I reckon my machine will be perfectly usable in 10 years time.
I have a MB Pro 13 M1 that is over three years old and it is base 8GB/256GB and is as fast and fluid as when new. What makes you think that people that have the same workflow today as they had three years ago will find their Macs slowing down? I don't know about Windows, but it has never happened on any Mac I have owned.
I"m with you regarding RAM but on storage, it's easy to purchase external storage solutions that are very fast and one saves a lot of money in the process. 512gb would be a more reasonable minimum though you could get by with 256gb if you aren't application heavy. I got 2tb and I have used 30 percent of it and offload projects onto external hard drives (T7 Samsung drives) as I can bring them to other computers. Even the few games I have run on an external drive along with media such as movies, ebooks and another external drive specific to photo/images. Only real upside is how fast the internal higher storage options run regarding read and write times. The T7 external drives only get 800mb versus 8000mb internal so there is trade off. But at 800mb, it's fast enough not to become a noticeable drag.

Hopefully others will also and they will allow booting from external drives when the internal SSD dies in the future.
Have you used a 8gb air ? It’s perfect with no issues for 99 %
@@woofiooxx most laptops over the last 8 years are good enough for basic things even phones and tablets.
They all benefit from more ram faster larger ssds more ports better speaker 120hz when or higher OLED mini led TB egpu etc.
MacBook air is s great machine
You said “Pro” exactly 46 times.
@@andyH_England You must be old. Young people will be playing games, having several chat lines opened, and much more.
@@innnews6299 Yeah, older people exist and also buy Macs because we prefer it to Windows.

Upgrading from M1,2020 to M3 Pro, 2024
I have Macbook Pro from 2018 and I don't edit videos or anything like that. I just use it for browsing lol and I will still go with 14inch M3 Pro and 18GB Ram
I am laying to rest my 9 year old Mac Book pro for the M3 Mac Book Pro!
I have the 16inch M1Pro and gotta say its a powerhouse, I dont see the need to upgrade for a very long time, I havent even pushed the M1Pro chip to its limits and I sometimes render 4k HDR or 8k video
Awesome! Can I ask what the specs are on it?
@@danny3493 base specs, 16gb ram and 512 storage, I always use an external SSD
This was a fantastic video, thank you Jimmy! It's about time I leave my 2015 13-in MacBook pro behind. Super excited for a huge difference!
Would you recommend the M3 Pro over the M2 pro? coming from a 2012 macbook pro
I went from a base M1 Mac Mini to the 12 core 14" M3 MacBook Pro with the Pro chip.
The gains I get are..
Multi core 8453 > 15486
Single core 2355 > 3140
External monitors 1 > 2 (3 including the built in screen)
Ram. 8 > 18
My biggest reason was to use 2 4K Samsung external monitors and the additional 10GB of ram.
Thanks for your kind review
16gb not 18gb
@@Tigerex96618 GB on the Pro.
How is the battery ? I'm considering the 12 core version as well but worried it might have noticeably lower battery than the 11 core version, I don't need the extra GPU, just the extra CPU since I am a programmer.
@@Tigerex966 Nope, it's 18gb on the M3 Pro, not 16, does seem unusual but that's the way it is.
Any tips for My Situation or is This normal ?
so, you dont really notice the + 30+ % single core difference in your everyday jobs?
I just upgraded to a 14inch M3 Pro, 18GB Ram, 512gb storage from windows 8gb/256ssd. IM VERY VERY HAPPY WITH MY MACBOOK RIGHT NOW!
Man that Pro, Pro pronouning must be very tough job for you in that video. I hate when major vendors like Apple, MS do that kind of werido marketing names
finally a youtuber that isn't obsessed with forcing people to buy an M3 Max
A friend cant do simple things on autocad in her 16gb M2 lol
crap screen on the AIR
I'm trying to decide which MacBook I should upgrade to from my 2017 iMac, so almost any Apple silicon laptop would be amazing.
that one guy who acually took a shot for every time he said "pro"
Most testing shows it’s not big a difference. Don’t buy into all these RUclipsr benchmarks
@@andyH_England I’m just thinking for music production. The M3 pro was able to play less tracks in Logic Pro than the M2 pro with 16gb ram
I couldn't finish the video. By 1 minute in, i was completely drunk.

We can see that M3 is faster but at the same time, it's not blowing the M1 out of the water.
Just want to know your thoughts for someone who does both video and photo editing as well as after effect. which mac would you recommend. m3pro or m3max
thanks
Great review from a Pro :-) Well, technically everything is not black because you turn off the light. It retains it's color, you just can't see it :-) Great review as always!
Great video. I’m upgrading from an HP Envy to the MBP M3P and I’m very excited for it to arrive. Definitely a big step up in every way.
What storage is your ?
Currently using my Macbook Air m1 base model (8gb 256gb) and considering the upgrade
how do you recognize a youtuber? they say colorway and normal humans are fine just saying color.
Both of your reasons to upgrade apply to me, m1 air 8gb ram… I feel better about upgrading now xD
Does the display cause eye strain when used for long hours(8-9)?
Hey Jimmy, can you share the wallpaper used in this video??
i have the 14" M1 and its the best mac computer I have everrrr had, i can't imagine how much better and faster the M3 is
This video made me think of my setup. Eventually I might get the 15” but honestly I really like the smaller size and along with an ipad pro when I travel it is a really good amount of screen.
where can i find this amazing wallpaper ?
Don't listen to this guy and don't get any 8GB Mac and don't get the M3 16GB. Go for the M3P or a refurbed M2P.
If you're using this thing for work? Yeah. Get 16GB or more. But I wouldn't say people who use a machine to just web surf or stream content need 16GB. Agreed on the refurb part though! Those M2 Pro MacBooks are a real good way to save money.
@@JimmyTriesWorldthey should just go with an air imo.
If the 8gb laptop can’t be a pro, then no windows laptop can be considered a pro period.
thats too many shots.... gn
What color is your new final MacBook Pro M3 Max now?
