We were amazed at how good the English was and how he learnt! So very nice, especially out of the tourist areas it seems for us, which makes sense.
      Thanks for watching ❤️😊🙏

I was in Nong Khai many years ago (1993) - I was working in Vientiane, Laos so I took frequent trips across the Mekong on my days off. On one occasion there was a typhoon that resulted in a flash-flood and my being dragged into a sewer as the ground gave way. A couple of kids dragged me out and hosed me down and then saturated me in disinfectant. All I could do as repayment was to buy the family dinner, and what a dinner it was! and then pay for one of the family to travel to Bangkok with a recommendation for employment. It was one of the best weeks of my life.

Wow, that is an incredible story!
So nice you were able to repay them like that as well! Thank you for sharing 🙏😊

Cool video guys - very chilled traditional country town , Glad the Banh Mi wasn’t too good ( soiling of pants would have been a bit much ) and being close to the border & Udon Thani makes it intriguing & worth a look ?
    Thanks F & S

It’s a cool place to visit. It does seem to have been wrecked by the pandemic, and we didn’t see a lot of it, but what we did see was pretty nice!
Haha yea, I’m glad it wasn’t as good as I thought, I’ll save that for Vietnam 😂😂

Thanks for the shout out. The cowboy hat looked amazing and they are not easy to pull off. That looked like a huge one. I couldn't have worn it either. Haha.
Ah the serenity. Haha. I haven't thought of the castle movie in years. I grabbed it from a local video store back in Canada and I loved it. I used to say that catch phrase all the time and it always cracked my ex wife up. Especially when we were in the middle of Disney World and it was the least serene place on the planet. Haha. You brought back some great memories with that one.

Haha my pleasure! Saw it and had to try it out. Wasn’t my style, but I don’t think it looked too shabby!
Amazing you’ve seen it! Pretty niche thing to put in there. Really happy it brought back some good memories for you 😊🙏

Another great vlog. Nice to take a trip around Nong Khai from my armchair. I usually only go there for immigration now. Covid did dessimate it - before lots of bustling markets - you couldnt move - and river/boat restaurants along the Mekong. Hey did you know that you guys paid for that friendship bridge ??

      @franclyspeaking  9 месяцев назад

Thank you sir! It is quite the immigration hub, the lines for crossing the bridge were pretty big, even that early in the AM.
Sounded like it was a real hive of activity! Shame to see it like it is now. Maybe that’s why the young man we talked to had to work in udon thani…
Oh really? Didn’t know that? We talking aussies? Or tourists in general? I guess that’s what friends do aye? 😉

@francandsarah yes the Aussies in 1994 as part of aid for Laos. The first friendship bridge on the lower Mekong. You can/could walk half way a few years ago. There is a sign that says stop in Thai and Lao at that point which you can't cross - have a photo of my wife with one foot in each country

@brexpatfarang3780 oh nice, well when we head there in the future we will take a walk along and enjoy a good Aussie bridge haha
I saw a blokes vlog the other week where he went to walk and had to turn around and catch the bus, he was right off it haha

Nong khai looks very very quite after covid, feel very sorry for the people of that place. Its had to believe how hard they work to make ends meet.Talking about Vietnamese food I think you will be in for a surprised when there.I will let you venture out and see for yourself. 😊😊😊

It's a real shame to see. It was happening a bit while we were there, but it does seem like it was a much more happening place in the past. I hope they get back on their feet to where they once were. The chat we had with the finnish fella was good to hear. Had quite the musical scene apparently.
We are excited to see what awaits us there, food, people and the country in general. Hopefully it's a good time!
