- The more you learn about Software Defined Networking (SDN) the better! In this video I show you the how and why we separate the control-plane from the local routing device (SD-WAN edge), along with a good example of it in SD-WAN.

Keith the great! Thank you, I love your teaching style.
Thank you Oladeji!
Another Clearly explained video from Keith.. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Many thanks for the great explanation ! We still waiting for the next SDWAN videos :)
Thank you Isam Rafik Benmehidi. That may be the extend for RUclips regarding SD-WAN. I think I have 4 vids on it. CBT will be releasing a full SD WAN course in November, that may be something to consider checking out as well.
Not sure did I ever mention.... I love your t-shirts :)
And like always thank you for your informational/educational videos!!!!
You're the best!
Thanks Keith. 👍🏻
Very informative, thank you Keith.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Keith, definitely subscribed!
Thank you Cristian L!
Hi Keith, where can i get your full sd-wan related videos.
you explained this topic very well! thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Keith, I have question regarding SD-WAN control-plane. Aside from Cisco vSmart controller that de-couple control plane from router. Does other vendor orchestrator doing control-plane function as well? from what I know other vendor orchestrator same like Cisco vSmart+vManage+vBond. From other source as well said SD-WAN(SDN) will de-couple control plane and data plane but it is just hard to find documentation that said explicitly orchestrator doing control-plane. By the way thanks for the great video.
Keith , you are the best ! i learn a lot from you Thank Youuu a lot man
Thank you Sefraoui Houari
Thanks keith
Love your energy and vedios always on the high level....
Thank you Sukhminder Pal!
Great T-shirt!
Thank you Tamás Péter
thank you for the informative explanation, please do more video about sdwan
More to come!
I love this topic though I don't know much more about it than what I read in the book and obviously what you do in your videos but how do I get my hands on it How do I learn it hands-on What device is do I need to get
Thank you for the question Saibot. I use EVE-NG as an emulator, and use the images from Cisco.
@@KeithBarker You can do SDN with EVE-NG?
Very informative I always enjoy watching your nuggets. :-)
Glad to hear it!
Is it like NHS, if it was a led physical device or application on a VM, and routers would also build tunnels between themselves using it and encrypt them using IPSEC (as is the case with DMVPN)?
Thank you for the question Олег. vSmart rains down the instruction for which edged devices should built an IPsec tunnel to which other edge devices.
Hey Keith, can you make a tutorial on ML2, thanks for this one :)
Hello Keith, may i know the Cisco SD Wan can communicate with other routers? For eg, in the Slides have R1-R6. Can it communicate to the other router than cisco router? Thanks
Thank you Kenji Wong. Feel free to join my Discord sever. Lots of people there helping each other out. Each Saturday at 10am Pacific I hold my "Office Hour" where learners can ask questions about the topics they are studying. Mostly focusing on Cisco CCNA 200-301 topics. Feel free to join us there live if you are available. Here is the link ogit.online/Join_OGIT_on_Discord
Thanks again Kenji Wong!
Hey Keith!! Request you to include quiet a few routers in this design for bgp set up and also internet so the bigger topology will make it easy and help everyone get the big picture !!
Thank you Mohammed Aftab Naviwala. Will keep that in mind.
Thanks for making this video, very informative. I embarked on my SD-WAN studies recently, on Cisco's offerings.
I understand Cisco SD WAN refers to Viptela. But does it differ much from Meraki ?
Thank you for the question noorur. Yes, the Cisco SD-WAN product was previously known as Viptela, and it is a separate offering from their Meraki product.

Love your tshirt
thanks alot keith
Happy to do it, thanks for the feedback AYMAN.
is it better to call the vsmart a policy manager rather than it allows routing protocols to stay updated, after you set the policies the routing protocols are making decision on what routes and networks are available by themselves with little reference to the controller?
Thank you for the question Steve Spence.
The "management team" for Cisco's viptella SD-WAN solution are vBond, (for coordination and bringing on new edges), vSmart (for communicating information to the edge devices), and vManage (which allows us humans to interact with the system, and specify our policies). Edge devices are good for about 12 hours of no contact with vSmart before problems begin to creep in.
@@KeithBarker Oh my that could be problematic
what version the OS, do you use sir ?
i want to test on my lab too
Thank you for the question MangDodo. I am using 19.3 of the SD WAN for the controller network, and also the vEdge devices.
How do you make an SLA if you have 2 active transport?
Thank you Ralph Francis Villareal! Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/8zzVOCy-A5I/видео.html
Thank you!
You bet!
Cool shirt!
Thank you ExtremeAlcedo!
Networkchuck says,SDWAN Will turn everything we learnt so far upside-down.which is very true.
Thank you M Charan Sai
again...thank you for your awesome informative videos..!
also... could youplease do step hy step hands on lab videos in eve-ng or any simulation...
Thank you for the question Muhammed Midlaj. Michael Hilton has some step by step videos on building a SD WAN lab, here on RUclips. Check those out for a complete step by step install.
@@KeithBarker okay.... let me try
is it like RR in BGP?
Not the same concept as a RR in BGP.
You mention there are 6 routers, but actually only 5 😅, no biggie. Anyway, great overview Thanks Keith!😀
Thank you @afsala.a.6598!
Too Good.
Thank you! Cheers!
So how could i simulate this lab
Thank you for the question Zeyad Man. I use Eve-NG as an emulator, running on a VMware ESXi host. Could also run this in another emulator, other than ESXi.
As I understand, Vsmart is cisco only terminology, not sdwan general terminology.
Your awesome
Thank you Most Drippy!
The funny thing is that when i ask people to really , in reality , configure this, they fuck up. They can explain it by theory , but when they actually have to configure stuff on real hardware they screw up. Especially teachers on high school who educate students in IT.
So SD-WAN is not just about doing VPN and PfR! That's what most vendors do... only a few play SD-WAN by the book.
Thank you Tiago Meireles
1:18 "in this small topology with 6 routers.." there's only 5. Completely irrelevant comment, I apologise, but still took me a while to stop looking for R5.
Thank you Andrei Craciun! Who stole my router❓ 😂 Great eye. Thanks!
WHat did the router do??????????????????????????????
excellent explanation!!! You just speak too fast haha. need to change playback speed
it only requires manpower to manage your network
I like this. I hardly knew anything about SD-WAN.
Happy to do it, thanks for the feedback Troy
