    Very insightful comments! You've touched upon many aspects that we have carefully considered!
    Our aim with the Canyon is to cater to beginners and allow them to delve deeper into the world of balisong, to experience the exhilaration of mastering each trick, and to feel the adrenaline rush that comes with it. We want them to embrace this coolest of balisong flipping as a sport!
    The Canyon is designed to be affordable, durable, and suitable for prolonged practice sessions, accommodating all advanced techniques. To achieve this, we have incorporated stainless steel and added bushings, aligning with our set objectives.
    The introduction of the Canyon is not intended to serve as a transitional tool for beginners to eventually move on to aluminum or titanium butterfly knives for more advanced skills. Instead, the Canyon offers the capability to practice all maneuvers without worrying about drops. You'll become an advanced flipper by just practising Canyon, and then you can start exploring many more balisongs for various experiences.

    After flipping my Canyon trainer for a good while, I've got to say this hunk of steel is an absolute miracle to exist. I dropped this thing on Hard floors, concrete, endless carpets, and so on. The tolerances still holds up, and the flipping experience is sublime for the price. However, the "weirdness" that is mentioned in this video is definitely something I sort of discovered part ways into breaking it in. The sheer weight in the handles somewhat over-compensates the force that is needed in order to successfully land chaplins or rollovers than on a traditional balisong. With certain tricks like a BT8B or Helix, it more feels like you're directing a train on tracks rather than tossing a weight like you would on say, the Vulp. Transitioning to a more traditional balisong definitely requires some adjustments as I feel that the timing required to land certain tricks may be off ever so slightly because of this balance. I can understand that folks getting into the hobby may be in for a bit of an adjustment period once they upgrade to a more traditionally balanced knife like the Krake Raken.
    While most folks can enjoy this trainer, prolonged flipping sessions do indeed start taking a toll given this balisong's deceptive weight. The skeleton handles provide plentiful grip, but the skinnier handle profile overall may not fit most people with big hands. My original trainer came with some considerable handle gap issues; (a replacement is on the way, but it took almost a month of waiting.) While I cannot argue that this provides an exceedingly good value proposition, it's not the end all be all default that I'd give to everyone.
    With all that being said, the Nabalis Canyon is one of the best momentum trainers that I've flipped in a long while. It even performs better than some mid range balisongs I own. I urge that folks interested in the hobby try and purchase a wide range of "cheap" balisongs with varied weight distributions in order to further build up a preference that may influence your next upgrade into the mid, high, and grail range purchases.

    As a beginner, I really like how the canyon carries momentum. I have a vulp, 2 hydras, and a squiddy, but Ive found I appreciate the slight sluggishness of the canyon, and the amount of momentum it carries, when I'm trying to learn new tricks. I especially like how it feels for momentum based tricks like rollovers and aerials, even ladders.
    I do only have the trainer at the moment, though, so Im not sure how I'll feel with the more neutral-biased false live blade when it comes in.
    As a beginner though, I really appreciate it, and find the sluggishness to be helpful for learning.
    As an engineer, I find the way that they did the pinsless contact points intriguing. A lot of pinsless designs I've seen don't seem to have a lot of contact area, but the canyon seems to maximize contact area over a curved surface. It’s been a hot minute since I did engineering for a contact point that had impact instead of rubbing, but I think they may be on the right track for optimizing the design to mimimize deformation. I'm sure it will happen, but very slowly. I've been flipping mine aggressively and constantly for weeks, and I haven't noticed any significant change.

For beginners I think it’s a really good option especially with the handle weight. I let my friend with very little experience with anything besides a couple rollovers try it and he found it super easy to use and thought it was “one of those million dollar ones”.

    i've personally been recommending the vulp still because i find that the vulp carries a more standard momentum for new flippers to get used to. the canyon is fantastic for the price but it feels more like a proof of concept that works really well for people who are already established flippers. it proves really well that we CAN get full steel that's both comfortable in the hand and can have a comfortable weight, but i tend to find it hates fast momentum switching and its multiple hotspots make it carry too much momentum horizontally but wants to stop and fall vertically. granted for $50 it's worth at least buying to try it

Your analysis is probably correct but overall I have to fall in the camp that the Canyon is a game changer. I started flipping with a Kershaw Lucha before I discovered the balisong community. So I feel like this is an outstanding flipper. Its cheap. Its durable. Its a great place to start and great to take out when you don't want to take out your SlifT. Ok so I’m relatively new to the hobby. I own a flytanium zenith, an edit lite, a nautilus clone and a canyon.
    I agree with what you’re saying completely. However I’ve found that learning new tricks on the canyon is somehow easier than anything else I own. So I learn on the canyon and move to a more standard balisong and end up being better on that. It’s weird but it’s been the case for me since I got it

    • @BladeBias
      @BladeBias  11 месяцев назад

      That makes total sense, the canyon carries far more momentum than most other balis at the price point which can help learning handle biased tricks (chaplins, rollovers, etc) by a ton

    • @mk7Jordy
      @mk7Jordy 11 месяцев назад +2

      the heavier weight on the canyon i find helps train those hand muscles when learning new tricks. flipping a 3.x oz bali after the canyon feels like flipping a feather. but what's weird is the canyon doesn't exactly feel heavy which is a testament to its overall balance

    • @TheLimitPoint
      @TheLimitPoint 11 месяцев назад

      @@mk7Jordyexactly, the Canyon made my Trident feel so weird because of the weight difference. I have to be flipping the trident for a while just to get the same kind of enjoyment... Imo it still holds great value when compared to its rivals, but the Canyon is an entirely different echelon in terms of value.

  • @ninjaman437
    @ninjaman437 11 месяцев назад +1

    • @mightylion4704
      @mightylion4704 11 месяцев назад

      The Vulp is 113/4g and the Canyon is 126g. Not far off but the steel seems to carry the momentum better than the 7075. I think the Vulp is dow the lighter end of the scale. Squid Kraken sits at 120ish so bang in the middle.

    I'm so far very impressed by it. Cost or not. I feel like the better comparison is the monarch v1 :) with speed channels. The thing that I attributed the slightly slower feel was (yes the material at the end of the handle causing it to carry momentum (but be harder to reverse direction) that it is still breaking in. I notice the horizontal swing to be...a bit sticky, which sometimes just goes away as the blade wears in.

    You can do all kind of tricks ( Vulp is total off, bad chaplain, slippery as f) AND you can throw it 100 times (beginner throw the Balisong super often) on concrete.
    And for all other flipper, I like different flipper and switch between and yes this thing has its own feeling to it and that’s dope as f. .

      I got a Vulp out of curiousity and its OK for what it is. I think it's generic and sits in its niche quite happily. It is however slippery af and chaplains suck. Will has said its like that so you have to make more of a rotation to help teach beginners. I think he said that after the all critiscisms came out to defend a point that was missed in the intial designs. Canyon is based though and IMO a better choice for someone moving from Vulp to a FE/Live.

      I’ve been beating mine and it’s fine. The only thing that gets noticeably damaged is the edge of the blade which isn’t a huge deal imo. But if you don’t want to deal with the edge getting beat up the trainer shouldn’t have that problem

      Canyon all the way as a first, cheap balisong. While it is on the heavy side, the Canyon is made of more durable materials with fantastic grip all around, besides maybe the jimping. The Canyon can carry momentum really well, and is a comfortable balisong to flip thanks to the smoothed body and edges. However, make sure to check and see if your Canyon arrived with a reduced handle gap. Mine did, and I have some slight concerns about it in the long run, but Amazon and Nabalis has ya covered there. For the low price of $40-$50, you are pretty much commiting highway robbery with what you are getting here.
      The Orion V1.5 is the overall best flipper of the bunch, but it is currently really hard to get ahold of due to the limited stock. I am still currently hunting one myself and eagerly awaiting to buy it.
      The Vulp is a great starter package, but not an overall great flipper due to its slipperiness and inability to hold proper chaplins. I speak from experience that the Vulp is kind of a meh balisong overall that you will outgrow rather quickly. The balance is fine, the feel is ... hollow, and the handle bias is a little too drastic for my taste. It took a long while until I managed to learn how to fan on that balisong. But, the Vulp does have everything you need to educate you on how to maintain your balisong as well as do proper maintenance, which is pretty nice. It's a solid option that comes in many colors, and also a nifty bottle opener if you're into that. But I don't think I could recommend the Vulp over a Canyon in terms of sheer flipping performance and durability.
      As for the Squiddy AL, it's a mixed bag. $85 for an aluminum squid product is actually an enticing offer. The grip texture is fantastic, the overall build is high quality, and the non-lethal appearance will probably draw less raised eyebrows. However, this balisong is still only running on a washer system, so tuning will take some more finesse. The pinless design is also a bit uncertain in terms of longevity. This is aluminum on aluminum, so in theory the balisong won't eat away its handle gap like some other super pricey offerings. But I would rather clack steel-on-steel since I know that it will probably not beat super easily. The price is not too bad, but I don't think I'd pay any more than the asking $85 for extra colors. As for the balance, this thing is what most would call the standard squiddy experience, but metal now. Squiddy's tend to have a strange neutral balance in terms of how they flip. Overall, not a bad option, though I don't know if I could recommend it over the others here.
      My overall ranking would be
      Canyon > Orion > Vulp > Squiddy AL
      *If the Orion v1.5 is available, scoop that up first!

    I think a lot of the discussion of "the canyon is so different from aluminum and titanium therefore it's bad for beginners" is coming from, with all due respect, enthusiasts with large collections of aluminum and titanium balisongs. Sure there's a lot of concern of "what happens when they buy another balisong and it's so different from what they're used to" but that's based on the idea that they even ARE going to buy another balisong.
    This is an expensive hobby and not everyone has the kind of disposable income to expand their collection. If you have $60-70 and are torn between the canyon and the vulp as your FIRST balisong, the vulp is going to be a more "standard" example of what most balisongs feel like. But if you have $60-70 and are looking to buy your ONLY balisong, the canyon is a no brainer.
    It's durable, it's cheap, and can do 95% of the things you want it to do and it flips extremely well for the price. And IMO if I was a beginner who bought a canyon and went "hey this is really fun I kinda want another bali to know what other knives feel like" I'd probably want something extremely different from what I have to get a real contrast. Going from a canyon to a plastic bali like an edit lite or a squiddy is going to be really interesting, because a plastic doesn't have have the momentum of metal but it's light weight makes it very easy and fun to speed through tricks.
    I just think that a lot of this conversation is missing what a beginner to this hobby actually wants, and it seems to be based on the assumption that the ultimate "goal" of balisong flipping is to become an enthusiast with a large collection of expensive knives. It just isn't realistic.

    I think your view point may be because you haven’t been flipping for that long. Years and years ago there was not a meta for balisongs. There were tons of quirky Balisongs and none of them flipped the same. We are spoiled now. Basically you can eventually get used to anything that is flippable. Also having. A wide variety of weird Balisongs can help you learn.

    • @BladeBias
      @BladeBias  11 месяцев назад

      A lot of balisongs flip different now aswell! But this one is definitely different in a way that *could* pose a problem to some beginners which is my point, but it still flips incredibly well!

    Bought a trainer on Amazon US. Came lubed with no wrench. Terrible balisong. Sturdiness is the only thing I would give it points in. Bushings are frozen inside, can’t replace the screws. It’s BEYOND heavy. I wouldn’t recommend it to new users. I’m new and I’m already returning it and buying a better balisong. I would suggest buying the Canyon only if you plan to use your balisong on concrete exclusively.
