I just realised a beautiful irony in Baepsae. People in power and with a lot of priveledge call people "baepsae" "try hard" with the connotation of "no matter how hard you try, you will always fail" and at the same time, tell them to try harder, work harder, and that you aren't trying hard enough. It is like the horse chasing the carrot, it is always kept out of reach no matter how hard you try.
they are so different from other kpop groups. they bring up real issues many try to keep quiet. they are using their voice to say what korean youth experience.
I truly can’t express how much I’m loving this series. Thank y’all so much for all your hard work and time spent helping a international fan understand the music I have fallen for so hard.. Wish you would go through some of Bigbang’s songs as well
wow... that was one he*la of explanation👀 Your 'explain series' really plays a huge role for us who cannot speak and understand well Korean language👍 Can't deny the fact that although BTS' songs have their english translations, it's still hard and confusing most of the times to interpret & internalize the meaning of every phrase and line in their lyrics but through this series of yours, you are giving us the opportunity to appreciate more and more what our lovely, talented Bangtan boys are trying to convey with their music😊😁 Thank you so, so much!😉😘
Seokjinie Kimmy YES EXACTLY. I am an American and have no idea how in-depth Korean culture is. Korean culture is so rich with history and meaning but I’m trying to learn and BTS is making it difficult bc now that I know Korean words have different meaning depending on how you use them and how you say them I’m like 😭😭😭 but I’ll deal with it bc that’s probably how non-English speaking people feel about us when we are over here using slang and they are just as confused 😂😂
BTS' logic is on different level. I don't regret loving this group after all. Thanks for this awesome translation! Hope you'll do Agust D the last cos I am somewhat mystified y the koreans avoid topic that relates to depression and thank you very much!
The gold spoon teacher in the lyric of Baepsae addresses Park Geunhye who was the president when Baepsae was released and Nooooryuk is her way to emphasize Noryuk in her presidential address as if she had wanted to teach people. It looked quite cringy and many young people started mimicking her since then.
Same is happening here in the states. My daughter respectfully "schooled" her baby boomer history teacher on the realistic costs of college nowadays as compared to when he went to school. He was humble enough to look up the cost to go to college today as compared to when he could "work part-time and pay for school along with the basic necessities of life." He thought offering free/affordable college education was the result of kids being too lazy to work and go to school. He admitted he was wrong.
You guys are seriously doing god's work by explaining korean culture and double meanings. I want non korean speaking people to know the greatness of bts lyrics
The fact that these socia-economic & political problems are prevalent in all societies, their messages resonate with the current generation. I appreciate this.
This video just not only helped me to understand that song better. But also made me understand one of the issues in Korea. The truth is I never understood why there is this strong message for older generation but now I really understand. Thanks for that.
one of the million reasons why i love BTS is how social conscious they are! they aren't afraid to say what needs to be said, they aren't afraid to be controversial and they use their influence to ty to change things! that's what ARTISTS are meant to do! i admire them so much! thank u DKDKTV for these series of explanations, u're making me love BTS even more!

I’m so thankful I had these videos back when I was a baby army, they helped me understand their songs and lyrics even more than just reading them. I really hope you do more on their recent songs especially polar night
OH MY GOD, This is like a nuanced academic paper in motion. Thank you so much for this. It helps me understand so much of the socio-cultural-economic context that gets lost in the process of translation. This is exactly the kind of thing that I was looking for. Keep up the good work!
Wanted to give BTS ' new songs a pass. But after listening to yours and David's interpretation of their music Ive gone back to music again with a new perspective. Sad that we're not leaving anything for the coming generations. No doubt the suicide rates are so high.
Thank you so much for listening to music without prejudice. I'm not always into their titles but I can always find gold in their albums, every single one. If you are interested, I hope you can check their b-side with translation (which are all around youtube) for a better reference to their music. Thanks again.
I know this is a year ago, but i just saw this comment and wanted to tell you that Korea has the one of the highest rates of suicide (especially in youth) in the world for the past 5-ish amount of years? I know some people who haven't been able to get a real job for the past 3 years despite having many licenses and a university degree, part-time work experience, etc. So, yeah. Its pretty fucking bad and really sad.
And 3 years later we're in a situation even worse than before haha, there's this saying in my country that goes more or less like this in english "you can always get deeper when you think you've reached rock bottom" and unfortunately it really is the case, if we're already the generation of hopelessness i can only say i pity the ones coming after us because i have no clue how they're gonna live.
FYI the channel DKDKTV Thank you for making this. It's really an informative video explaining the political statements about the economical & generational disparities experienced by the younger generations in S. Korea (which is very much felt in younger generations in the U.S., especially by Millennials in relation to Baby Boomers as well). Not only are BTS talented but their song lyrics are often meaningful & relevant.

Thank you so so much for all the effort you put into this! It sure is well-known among fans that BTS often addresses socio-political issues, however, looking at literal translations, international fans usually only get it to a certain extent, missing out on many profound metaphors and meanings due to the lack of equivalents in the English language. I feel like I’ve come to understand their songs on a much deeper level now, both 뱁새 and 땡... I really hope to see more of it, this really just made my day! Again, thank you so much!
Ohhhh, my goodness!!! Thank you!!! (My apologies, I have few things I must say to you. ) Frist, I am not Korean nor a Korean speaker nor have I visited this precious country... yet. I would of remained ignorant and clueless without you with only intuition to guide me. I treasure respectful, eloquent, well spoken truth. Thank you, once again!!! Second, I really love and respect your videos. They are clear, intelligent and concise. I trust you and your partner and appreciate your wisdoms and honest interpretations. I witness your brilliance and salute you both for carving out a powerful and successful place in the world. You, like BTS give hope to your fellow millenniums. Thank you and well done!!! Next, you have revealed once again how courageous, brave, brilliant, genius, clever, righteous, compassionate, loving, dedicated, wise, talented, honest, rebellious, societal changer and leaders that BTS passively and overtly really are. (I now understand even further. You have revealed one more level why BTS seens to threaten the global self-serving controlling forces currently in power.) I had not heard this song yet. I must admit... that I am 66 years old and part of that "Baby Boomer" nonsense and very new to the enlightening world of BTS. I am being given the opportunity by you to be able to fully recieve the brilliance of and hope from BTS. I have enjoyed recently the fulfillment of Korean and Asian entertainment as a whole. However, I could sense the theme of hopelessness, suffering, abuse and pain the young seemed to have throughout Asia. However, because BTS is NOW my proof that the world is changing... and through the infusion power of youth, beauty, laughter, brotherhood, intimacy, kindness, courage, sincerity, transparency, voice, art, music, lyrics, song and dance... there is a new LIGHT guiding us. Like J-Hope's name and mantra indicates... I now have proof of global change and hope for our future. I have hope for the young on this planet. I have hope for humanity.... because BTS and ARMY exists, have shown up and have become a global force. I want thank the very first fan of BTS. The very beginning. Whovever you are... THANK YOU. 💜💜💜

Whoaaaa. Thank you so much! I requested Baepsae under your ddaeng explanation. I really like Baepsae. It’s a catchy song but it also has a deeper meaning. I hope many can watch this to get a better understanding Baepsae’s message. Thank you again!
I understood from the general translations ARMYs work so hard to make what they were getting at. I mean, the parenthetical name “silver spoon” helps a lot. But I didn’t know how very similar Korea’s current economic struggle was to the issues in the US. Young people here can definitely relate.
Wish you would go through some of Bigbang’s songs as well
Im working on one - dav
Thank you ☺️
Yes do BIGBANG and other 2nd gen as well!!!
"They are basically calling the older generation Motherfu*kers" I LAUGHED SO LOUD LMAO
wow... that was one he*la of explanation👀 Your 'explain series' really plays a huge role for us who cannot speak and understand well Korean language👍 Can't deny the fact that although BTS' songs have their english translations, it's still hard and confusing most of the times to interpret & internalize the meaning of every phrase and line in their lyrics but through this series of yours, you are giving us the opportunity to appreciate more and more what our lovely, talented Bangtan boys are trying to convey with their music😊😁 Thank you so, so much!😉😘
Seokjinie Kimmy YES EXACTLY.
10 seconds in, I already pressed like. And I was not wrong, quality content right there 👌

**Thrusts Crotch in Rebellion**
HAAHAHH
I'd love to either hear the audio recording on this or be the fly on the wall when it happened
literally dropped everything for this XD
As you should. Hehe.
You guys are seriously doing god's work by explaining korean culture and double meanings.
I want non korean speaking people to know the greatness of bts lyrics
The fact that these socia-economic & political problems are prevalent in all societies, their messages resonate with the current generation. I appreciate this.
이런 컨텐츠 너무 좋아요.. 방탄은 한국인들만 알아들을 수 있는 뜻을 가진 곡들이 꽤 많잖아요 땡 설명도 잘 봤는데 뱁새도 너무 감사합니다ㅠ
This video just not only helped me to understand that song better. But also made me understand one of the issues in Korea. The truth is I never understood why there is this strong message for older generation but now I really understand. Thanks for that.
But they also have a message in their song for younger people in "Spine Breaker" this guy explains it too.
BTS doesn't discriminate!
I love how this song is just heavy social criticism while shamelessly hipthrusting
To me, the hipthrusts represents like a middle finger or "f*ck-you".... to the status quo...
one of the million reasons why i love BTS is how social conscious they are! they aren't afraid to say what needs to be said, they aren't afraid to be controversial and they use their influence to ty to change things! that's what ARTISTS are meant to do! i admire them so much! thank u DKDKTV for these series of explanations, u're making me love BTS even more!
I’m a 62 year old GrandMother❤️ I Live in Mississippi, Born & Raised Here. My GrandDaughter Introduced Me to BTS a Few Years ago, I AM AN OLDER AGE ARMY LIFETIME FAN!!! I Have Introduced Most of My Age Friends to BTS. YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD, TO LOVE YOURSELF💖THANK YOU BTS, FOR BEING YOURSELF, LOVE Y’ALL!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Come to Mississippi PLEASE👍🏻
I will not stop suggesting RM's Joke until you guys do it. Please!! 😂
Omg yes!!!
YES YES YES OMG
Sonelah Sarmiento This! I have read so many different explanations for this and some people get confused so they often dont get the joke in Joke
Annnnnnnd I didn't get the Joke
yall better back me up in the comments whenever dkdktv uploads videos so they'll see it! 👍👍
BTS and their play on words. I honestly can't keep up.
*Thank you so much for breaking down the lyrics and explaining so that our uneducated asses can finally understand*
This is when Bong Joon ho says,”Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films (or in this more of BTSs)... the depth the meanings the history I learn from BTS is insane.
When I first heard the song and read the translated lyrics I was blown away since as a fellow Asian this song is seriously hitting all the right spots
But holy hell your video opened my eyes to a whole new level of appreciation and respect for bangtan, it's so comprehensive and straight forward
Thank you so much!
they’re iNTELLECTUALS. like-they’re making their own music, their own lyrics, and their own money. iM SO PROUD OF THEM OMGGGG
i hope u explain bts song like no more dream, N.O, Spine Breaker, Dope, Not Today, am I Wrong, and other controversial bts song 😂😂
especially N.O
Up
@Fer 094 Ikr, his play words just thumbs up for me & hope many ARMY will be more appreciate him
Up
Yes.. "Seoul to the SKY" 😆😆😆
I got legit chills. This is exactly why I love BTS. Thank you for making this vid! As a millenial, I believe Baepsae's message does not only apply to Korea but also deeply resounds worldwide.
Some reactors are funny, some just judging their music, but we need this kind of content. Thank you, I hope you guys will continue making this kind of video in the future
You have hit a home run with your explanation series. I was thrilled with the Ddaeng vid, and your idea to do this is way more valuable for me, than the reaction vids. Way to go, guys !!
Please do more explanation vids! So detailed i love it
I’m so thankful I had these videos back when I was a baby army, they helped me understand their songs and lyrics even more than just reading them. I really hope you do more on their recent songs especially polar night
I am waiting for you to explain Am I Wrong by BTS, thank you in advance.
ps, turning on notification to your channel is the best decision.
FYI the channel DKDKTV
Thank you for making this.
It's a Pleasure for us that 'Harvard Law School took Bapsae as a reference for Explaining the current condition of society'.
Stan BTS for Better Life.
Yall should do Am I Wrong next
Trang Nguyen Am I wrong is a masterpeace!!
3,5 and 7포 세대 were also *mentioned by RM on his verse in DOPE* what a genius
*Thanks for these vids it's really educational and helpful^^*
Thank you so so much for all the effort you put into this! It sure is well-known among fans that BTS often addresses socio-political issues, however, looking at literal translations, international fans usually only get it to a certain extent, missing out on many profound metaphors and meanings due to the lack of equivalents in the English language. I feel like I’ve come to understand their songs on a much deeper level now, both 뱁새 and 땡... I really hope to see more of it, this really just made my day! Again, thank you so much!
Ohhhh, my goodness!!! Thank you!!!
(My apologies, I have few things I must say to you. )
Frist, I am not Korean nor a Korean speaker nor have I visited this precious country...
THANK YOU. 💜💜💜
Although I already knew the detailed meaning behind Baepsae, I really love your explanation of it!! Thank you for simplying it!! I wish I had this video, instead of spending hours on the internet trying to finding the hidden meaning behind!! Much 💜 from AUSTRALIA
Thank you for making these videos. I am a new fan of BTS and your teaching give me a new found love for their music and a look into Korean culture. I am so thankful for you guys that put this channel together.
Wow!!! You're always did a great job!!! I'm so thankful for this explanation!!! Considering that my native language is Spanish, there are so many different things to understand.
💜💜💜💜💜💜
Love u guys!!
Thank you so much for this series. Every time I watch these analysis videos, I realize that I haven't even scratched the surface of how badass BTS actually is. They really are the voice of the new generation.
Whoaaaa. Thank you so much! I requested Baepsae under your ddaeng explanation. I really like Baepsae. It’s a catchy song but it also has a deeper meaning. I frequently see people (new fans / nonfans) commenting / questioning when they see “crowtit” in the English captions of Bangtan’s MV since they’ve referenced Baepsae a lot.
I love that they made a song that can carry weight for people so far away from each other. Plus it’s a banger. Again, thanks so much for this video and your others. They’re really helpful!
Jesus! Thank you guys for the great work you did! I loved this song before but now I admire BTS even more!
Best decision you ever made creating this series. Love it, keep them coming !!
Thde videos make the choreography actually make so much sense which is cool
I want everyone in this world to watch this video and realize why so many people love BTS. They make great and meaningful music
I LOVED this especially the last part omg I've never seen people saying they cursed sksksks. Ah they're so clever, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS. This is my favourite series from you guys! Please do more bts songs because i don't feel like reading in detail translations a lot. 😩 Thank you again and i hope you guys keep making more of these. 💗💗💗
its not only in Korea this is EVERYWHERE!! YOUNG PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING!
how they deliver such content !!! they are not idols i!!!! they are True artists !!!!!!!! excuse me im going to stream their music ARTISTS deserve the BEST
it's insane how it appears that what millenials vs boomers experiences are so similar across countries. we see boomers in multiple countries enjoy a good economic environment and treating millenials today as if that is still the case for us.
Love learning about the interpretations and cultural meaning behind BTS songs. You guys are slowly uniting and educating the western world to the Korean culture…thanks to BTS…WE WANT MORE.
I NEVER realize baepsae has such a clever meaning. Thank you soo much for the video!
I love this series! It really sheds a new light on the lyrics that already seemed great on their own but after hearing the explanation, I'm even more impressed. Thanks for educating us!
you guys honestly explain this song better than anyone else. thank you so much for helping us international fans to understand their songs even more. love you both!!
Loved it Loved it Loved it !!!! This is educational level!! This why a pay the internet for !!
RUclips was made for this kind of thing!!
Thank you Danny!!
Never stop making this please!!
I honestly love your explanatory videos. You do them very well. And I also loooove the fact that you put accurate subtitles in so many languages! It's so helpful for when I try to introduce BTS to my non-English speaking friends. Thank you guys!
wow. the explanation verse by verse about their socio-economic dilemma is very insightful.
Thank you so much for this explanation.
I am a fan of BTS already and I respect them for talking about serious subjects in their songs, but they never stop surprising me. That is just genius!
I’m so thankful for this series! I thought I understood ddaeng and baepsae before but there was so much I just didn’t know!
This Explained series is literally EVERYTHING I was looking for when I was looking for reaction videos. Thank you!!
Watching this while waiting Big Hit drops teaser
Shooky The Cookie when will they drop the teaser ????
CupNoodle Doodle Nobody know. 😭😭
Shooky The Cookie mood
Hope they will drop it tonight
It's out already
You do know that, outside of BTS, this has to be my favorite video on the internet. I watch this a lot 😅 Thank you so much for this guys. I appreciate these series so much!
I love your explanation vids!!! And i hope to see more!!! Thank you so much!! ☺️
Danny is a WHOLE SNACK!!!
P.S. For its conscious lyrics and the sick beat, flow and background vocals Baepsae has always been my favourite BTS song.
always loved how lyrically evocative bapsae is. was surprised to see danny do the explaining this time! gotta add that this whole storks vs crow tit argument may be founded by a korean saying, but it goes without saying that us the younger generation is facing it all over the world. now i remember david miming that "samsung is better" comment lmao and it makes me ;) because we all get the same comments lol
I cannot express how much I am loving this series!! It is really amazing, thank you!
As usual this is so good I feel really happy for your progress towards something better.
My best wishes go towards the channel and David and Danny 🤗🤗
You two boys are no less than BTS telecasting quality material to the world. Hats off to you guys✨
I'm literally blown away after this vid.
Thanks for this! If there’s on request I could make, I’d really love to see their song Satoori Rap explained! There’s a lot of cultural nuances there that most i-fans can’t get.
