Awesome video fellas! Of course, any video where Matt Martin Heisenturf is dropping wisdom and knowledge is awesome. Thanks for producing this. It is timely for me because like you I just applied my first app ever of T-Nex a few weeks ago and I'm just learning the ropes of PGRs. I'm definitely looking into Atrimmec for the bushes next season that Paul Outlaw showed a few weeks ago. Trimming bushes always wipes me out.
I'm extremely late to the game on this video, but this was 30min well spent! I'm picking up a toro gm1000 on Thursday to start mowing my kbg/pgr lower. Thanks for this, a lot of good questions were answered for me, and you guys always do a good job at making it interesting!👍
I need to start using this on my home putting green that's mowed at.185" I like mowing but every day is rough. It would even help on the rest of my lawn at 1/2". Thanks for this intellectual and interesting video.
The Heisenturf Uncertainty Principle. Loved the video. I put 0.38 oz /1000 sq foot 3 weeks ago, with some 16-3-8 CoRoN. The edges still got a little brown. Recovering now. Will use 0.25 rate in a week or two.
Hey guys I enjoyed this video. Good job! I did just want to let you know though, that there is an t-nex edge rate. Just look at your label. It gives instructions for it. So the budget guy didn't make it up. It's actually on the t-nex label; at least it is on my bottle.
I just sprayed my first application of PGR on my lawn last week as well. I went with .25oz per 1000sq ft. Noticed a little yellowing but not much. I think next time I’ll try .325.
Awesome content!! Glad your still rocking the razorback gear!! How long after i apply Tnex to my celebration bermuda should i wait to mow? Im currently mowing at 1".
PGRs will drastically reducebstreching length in stems towards light. Think of the indoor house plant we all have seen with only one window on the wrong side of the house for light. The plant is stretching towards the window for light, often bending sideways or stems from the side opposite the window stretch and bend adding length trying to change its direction towards the light. Stems add length as they even bend around angling towards the window to get any light source to survive. The stems stretch in length and bend themselves in any direction the light is. That stretching and adding length of the main stems towards non direct sunlight is exactly what is drastically reduced and essentially pauses completely between applications. The streching happens on grass probably during sunsets or really gloomy days or shaded areas, its much easier to visualize the indoor plant streching towards the light in the window, and obviously increased length much more than the same plant but its grow very short bushy becsuse its never needed to stretch towards light because it was grown entirely direct quality light from the proper grow lights of a quality indoor garden. Im remembering friends germinating pot seeds when we were 14 or 15 and they hung a regular light bulb in their bedroom closet and the poor seedling would stretch to nearly a foot of stem before dying when tied to a stick holding it upright for us to check on daily, a pale white/yellow stem with zero leaf growth stretching towards a regular incandescent light bulb from one of our houses.not knowing regular bulbs dont provide the right color spectrum for plants. With a PGR, your grass stems wont stretch towards light which means they won't add the stretch related length. But even outside in good sunlight they still always will stretch a little until you add a PGR. The PGR shuts the stem stretch down. Making shorter but bushier plants.
This is a great question - my guess is since robo mowing improved many yards as the grass only had a bit cut off each time… you could set the robo mower to mow less often which would do the plant even better. Whether the robo mower had already gave you the affect of PGR without PGR since so little is cut off each time thus less plant stress - maybe not much to gain. Certainly already gained the less mowing part 😂
I think Matt is somewhat understating the effects of PGR. The evidence of grass greening is more than merely anecdotal, it's well researched. A google search will yield a large volume of university research showing increased greening, shorter internode length, increased root mass, and increased tillering.
VERY informative - thanks guys! Is there a tip nozzle you all prefer for even coverage (I’m running the My4Sons backpack), and would you recommend adding marking dye to ensure proper coverage? Ready to pull the trigger on PGR for my TifTuf!
Great video.. having the same slow growth rate on area's that receive more sun and my celebration was planted May 9th, shaded area's grow rapidly and have lush green thick growth. I guess there is nothing you can do about transplant shock other than wait for it to root/grow like the rest of the sod.
Great video, I’ve learned a ton!! Does PGR work best when your bermuda lawn is cut short? Mine has gotten way outta hand and I’m cutting at 3 1/2 inches now, just trying to keep the color. I didn’t want to scalp because I knew it would take forever to get back green. I just put down my second app a few days ago and it has suppress the growth tremendously. I just wish I knew about this stuff before it starting growing crazy
I may have totally screwed up. I went low rate… BUT- I used my new 20 gallon tow behind sprayer on 12k backyard and ran the lawn over multiple directions trying to get even coverage…. I guess that is good for fertilizer apps but likely bad idea for PGR… oops! Likely many many cross hatch areas that got more than high rate 😮… Guess I will find out in a fee more days… I did happen to add low rate of urea and some chelated Iron so I feel good about MattMartin saying that is a thing to help. Maybe because of this vid even though I first watched it two years ago. Man how do golf courses evenly spread this stuff. Now I am wondering if I can go even lower rate and still ise my tow behind… it is not as accurate… or I just need to get better at it.
freddych I bought mine. It’s called the spreader mate B by Greyson Clark. However, reel low dad, Connor ward, Brett’s grasscapades and Ryan from the lawn channel app have custom builds.
My Tifway 419 at 3/8" HOC will still show bronzing at .2oz per 1000sf of T-Nex. Adding Urea or iron doesn't seem to help... just what I've seen here in Florida. It always looks better after a couple of mowings. Edit: I also do the oposite of what Matt does. I push my GDD out to 250. Edit Edit: Edge rate is on the label. (edging/banding on the chart)
As a golf Course Superintendent I live on PGR applications. However be careful with what turf your treating. Paclobutrazole will destroy most annual bluegrass varieties
Great Vid! Super informative, just wish ya'll went into the different types a little more in-depth with the Professor! I am using Anuew from Nu-Farms and would have loved to hear Matt's thoughts on that product as T-Nex has a lot of information around, but not so much for Anuew. Is one better than the other for Cool Season verses Warm Season turf? IDK. Either way I am glad to see a vid that goes more in depth on PGR's I appreciate all your content, its just sometimes hard to relate in different Zones - Turf species But That's what the Label is for right!. Peace Chad
Chad Fleming Yea there is just so much info, it’s impossible to get into everything. Matt does a live Q and A every Sunday night in the grass factor so you could pop in and ask him questions
I'm worried now 😂 I applied first application of PGR yesterday I was not that precise And i'm not sure what it is I got it free from our head green keeper didn't want to ask to many questions as he was saving me a load of money.
This video made me happy in so many ways. This is the content I need. And you did your homework before the interview 💯

Good stuff. Matt's an awesome teaching and an encyclopedia when it comes to lawn care info. Thanks for doing this.

Glad it helped!
Awesome video! Loads of good information, and entertainment. Tools and Matt, thank you!

Great video I am waiting for recovery from leveling before I go with the pgr. I cant wait to see the results.

Probably a good plan 👍🏼
great video, this answers just about every question. Well done!.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks buddy!
I needed this video a month ago just like you haha. I 100% over applied my first app, but hey that’s how you learn lol

Yessir! How’s it looking now? Mine has been a week and I think I’m half way back to normal
The Lawn Tools
Much better now, it finally wore off and I applied a lower rate this past time
Matt Martin..... I even write it! LOL This was some really good information. I bought some, but have just been waiting to put down.
I just sprayed my first application of PGR on my lawn last week as well. I went with .25oz per 1000sq ft. Noticed a little yellowing but not much. I think next time I’ll try .325.
Adding some chealated liquid Iron will help
Awesome content!! Glad your still rocking the razorback gear!!

Really fantastic video/information!! Thank you sirs
Left tool is just too funny 😂 nice info guys

Hey tools. Sweet vid. Pod cast style. Excellent info. 1 more to add to the bank

Wayne Hayes
Thanks Wayne! Chatting with Matt was fun
First 8 min is the same question 4 times. “Does pgr make the grass spread laterally faste?” No it just reduces vertical growth
This episode is great. If you mow daily with a robot mower, will the color and strength of the turf still benefit from pgr? I'd assume yes.

Please tell me where you got your sprayer or how you built it as I want one
We need more guys in Florida talking turf--- Florida turf and responses etc... is different. We're a turf "country" in of itself

Who sells that 4 nozzle sprayer that you show every once in a while? Or does it need to be built and do you have a video with parts list?
