- This is the unedited coverage of the 9/11 memorial service as broadcast by HDNet, unfortunately only the first 2 hours as it was recorded to a 120 minute tape. I do not currently have the remaining footage.
This footage was recorded onto D-VHS from the HDNet channel in 2002 and archived until now, as such there may be dropouts in the video.

Yeah, Hdnet,which is axs tv channel, was one of the first full time hdtv channels in satellite and digital cable. It was like a higher tier and you have to pay extra for the equipment.
early HDTV ! all 9/11 anniversaries are sad but 2002 was the toughest.

@@sunifred8517they looked. Unfortunetly majority were recorded on VHS Tapes not digital. I remember 2002 as very good quality. In Europe video quality was often better than in USA.
@@fabiesqueHD might’ve “come out” in the 90’s, but it wasn’t ubiquitous/widely adopted in 2002. At least not in the North American market.
I didn’t get a HD-enabled satellite box receiver until around 2006, and it was quite a bit more per month cost wise for the limited number of HD 720P channels that were available.
I wasn’t alive during 9/11, but watching this, I can’t imagine how tragic and surreal it must be to walk or drive past this area and seeing the empty pit that is ground zero. All your life (or for the last 28 years) you’re used to seeing two of the tallest and most iconic skyscrapers in the world, and now it’s just- nothing.

I was a couple weeks from 22 when it happened and I remember it vividly still 😖
Now it's the new WTC of 4 new buildings, memorial, new church, museum and memorial pavilion as of 2023. This video is from 2002.
Was 9 when it happened, I managed to be there, right there, 9 years later in 2010.
Even with the works in construction and rebuilding, was eerie.
I seen pictures, videos and all of the place, but seeing it there, was abismally odd, giving a feeling of emptyness, knowing how compact and filled NY is, knowing there where 2 big towers and now...nothing at all.
Eerie.

@@leanneadams2549rebuilding them would have been insulting to the memory of those who perished there, those innocent lives cannot be so easily replaced and they should be honoured and not just built over like it never happened. Rebuilding them may have also caused unnecessary trauma to everyone, a constant visual reminder of that terrible day.
I visited ground zero in August 2002..look forward to visiting the memorial eventually.

I was fourteen years old here in NYC when the Twin Towers were destroyed. It took alot of bravery for those families who lost loved ones to walk into Ground Zero on the 1st anniversary of 9/11.

I visited the observation deck on tower 2 in August of 2001, when I was 7. I remember it well because it was a special experience. One thing I did not realize until later was how close to the attacks we'd come.

@@RR1-gn2hv well most of the recordings I have ever seen from the late 90s/2000s were mostly recorded on normal coaxial VHS. Most people didn't have D-VHS or recordable DVD just yet "Super Expensive Stuff back then". Most people don't think just how much tech has progressed in just 20 years. Google only just came out like 4 years before this, RUclips, Facebook, & even smartphones were just a dream still.
@@RR1-gn2hv I've been on youtube since its creation and it's not that HD broadcasts weren't made back then, it's more about finding a tv broadcast clip uploaded from that era (and before) in such quality.
I was living in New York as a kid when all this happened. But I was livin in the Bronx at the time. My mom was 22 and it was 2 weeks before my 7th birthday when I saw this on the news. I remember all of this… never even saw the towers.
