I took singing lessons at 16. After one lesson, the teacher told me to forget it. I know I don’t have a special voice, but wanted to do the best with what I had. I had been excepted in choir in Highschool so I could sing. I figure if Willie Nelson can do it so can I. Just want to be confident. Trying again, at 65. Thanks for your video.

I took lessons in my 30s from a woman who was a firemen member out the Tabernacle Choir and she told me she preferred to work with ppl in their 30s because the voice is set. That is, set for a number of years until you get older and the voice changes again

Unlike the majority of the other people here, I am genuinely a horrible singer. When I try to sing/hum I literally can’t get the air out, and if I do, I sound like a dying donkey. This isn’t to vent or anything like that, just to say that I started at a horrible singing quality. I’m still not good, far from decent, really, but your videos have helped so much. I can actually get the air out now. It’s almost as easy as talking. I am very motivated and will come back every day until I have my dream voice! Thank you so much

Breathing in into the the diaphragm and working on that part of the body supports singing. Deeply breathing in, like those doodle sack instruments the amount of controlled air makes the tone and the pressure on the air in the instrument. The voice opens in it's different ranges, that is at least what I had learned. Breathing is essential. A Voice should never be pressured in any way, it hurts her.

I was literally just telling my 13yo daughter that your personality is so very different than other people who do videos of this nature, well, ones that I’ve watched anyway. I watched one in which the instructor had an incredible voice but she spoke sort of sarcastically about common pitfalls when you’re singing-it was somewhat discouraging. I just started playing ukulele and I’d love to put the vocals with it. You have just truly inspired me to feel comfortable doing it. You’re right about being afraid to free the voice as a beginner-yes. Thank you for your humble and calm demeanor. You may not know how much it’s appreciated. I’m going to see what you offer in the way of paid-for things because I’d love your instruction while at the same supporting such a wonderful human. Sincerest thanks from a very, very beginner. ❤️✨🙂

About 4 months ago, I also joined my worship team at church. Like you, I also want to also develop my voice, build up my confidence and just focus on singing to God. When I visualize singing to God, I no longer feel scared, I just want Him to be pleased. But I still need work on believing in myself.
I feel like it's a talent he wants me to grow and perfect. So we're on our way. Just remember who you're singing for and He will give you what you need or direct you to where you need to be.

To find your natural singing voice, you need to sing songs in the exact some voice you speak with, which doesn't mean it should sound the same...
But what many a singer who starts out misunderstands is you need to sing with the same relaxation as if you were speaking, you don't have to strain yourself to speak normally do you, so starting by speaking the words to a song first (in tune and on key obviously) will help you reach your natural singing voice in a relaxed way, without damaging your voice from the outset by trying different tembres or techniques you don't know how to do properly.

    • @nubiasista9709

Makes a lot of sense. When I’m relaxed and absent mindedly singing a tune I heard, it sounds so much better than when I’m in the mindset of actually trying to sing cause then I can feel the strain. The problem is I don’t know how to train my body to not those muscles and I guess that is what vocal training is all about.lol

I have been practicing to your lessons but three days, and have learned a lot. To the point where I am sometimes able to feel the buzz, open my throat, project my voice to the front and back all at once - and importantly, sing in a much more relaxed manner throughout the entire range of one of my own songs in a way that was not possible before.
I plan to keep after your valuable lessons. I really appreciate the tab at the top left of the screen with the list of the vocal exercises. This makes it easy for me to follow your suggested order of instruction as well as to find videos focussed on specialized areas of instruction. You really know how to effectively convey your extensive and deep knowledge such that a person can learn quickly. Thank you very much.

Good singing involves Victoria's training!!!! I never thought I would be able to sing! But I have to say, singing in Arabic is very different from singing in English. I can achieve a vibrato much easier while singing Arabic songs, maybe because it's my mother tongue. I don't really know. But seriously, I got much better at singing because of your coaching. So thank you very much for that :)

    • @Victoria-Victorious

Great! Yes, you probably are more comfortable with your Arabic songs and that's why you can sing them with vibrato! Thank you for your post!

    Hi Victoria,
I never felt the need to comment to anything anywhere on these social meds, until now. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've been convincing my friends that everybody can sing, even when I didn't know how to myself. I guess I was bluffing. Anyway, I found mine I think.
Thank you, for helping me finding it.

I'm an older man, been playing sax and other woodwinds my entire life and now that I have more free time to pursue musical adventures, I want to sing. I'm OK, can carry a tune, sing on pitch and all, but I don't feel I'm able to project and really sing the way I think I can. I feel as though I may have stumbled on to the magic key here with you, Victoria. I found Frank Sinatra's book, 'Tips On Popular Singing' and have been casually trying to implement and adopt the ideas presented, but I think this short video of yours has been more valuable to me in terms of discovering who I might be as a singer. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and providing a very clear and simple method to help me find my real voice!!

That helps so much. I was always afraid to hit certain notes thinking that I couldn't but it was because my throat was so tight and constricted blocking the sound. I have extreme power even in high notes in chest voice when I just open my throat. It's amazing. Thank you

I never usually comment on videos, but I had to for this one. Your video helped me get over a huge barrier that was keeping me stuck for the longest time. I've always been able to support the voice, but I knew nothing about opening the throat. This really helped me to do that and now I can reach notes that I've never been able to before. Thank you so much for this video. Keep up the amazing work :)

It's funny because I was talking to a young lady who said she can't sing at all. I haven't been much of one myself.
I told her that I felt like we could all sing, if only we could find our real voice, and not try to imitate others.
Then I listened to your video and found out that I was right. I wish I could find that young lady again!

Thank you for this video. I came here following your message on reddit and have watched about 5 different videos of yours so far, each of them look useful, though after watching the beginner singing lesson video, I think this one is the best I've seen. I can sort of feel more of that vibration in my face when I try singing the 'ah' sound and can sort of get it when changing to the other vowels though that will probably take practice.
