I got so scared I got ripped off bruh I blew up this dude's twitter like WHERE THE HELL IS MY BEAT!!!!!!!!???!! And I got so embarrassed when he said that he didn't send the beat because he was out buying groceries.
Curtiss King TV I paid a producer for a lease he said he sent the lease I've never received the lease only the untagged beat I have all the msg and the receipt from PayPal will I be OK to drop the song?
@@sarahullom9390 same thing im wondering i bought a beat on my dads credit card so the lease is in his name and not mine.... not sure if i can still use it or not and need answers
From a rappers perspective: leases are bullshit. Unless you own a beat outright, the limits placed on leased beats prevent you from making any real money by limiting or dissallowing entirely things like use on spotify, apple music and youtube/ music videos (how most people consume music today). If you are a rapper do not waste money buying leases. Save your money up and take your time. Get PRO affiliated, and put out a 3 track bangin' EP that you own the masters for. And/or, learn to produce yourself. It will pay off more in the long run. Either way, moral of the story DO NOT EVER LEASE A BEAT. It costs too much for what you get. Side note to producers: when you're asking for 50% publishing and $500-$1K/ beat you are overestimating your worth. Even if you produced Lil' Whoevers last hit record understand your crowd and that most of your customer base can't pay $6K-$12K to producers to put out a project. Do your research and base your price and percentages on budgets and earning potentials rather than an arbitrary fixed price. I got no problem paying for beats or sharing publishing but understand your customer and your own worth. If your selling to an underground rapper asking for $100/ beat plus 50% publishing is fair to both parties. Asking for $200-$400 without publishing is also fair. If you are selling to a major label artist ask for that $500 or $1K upfront but also make getting a song writers fee in the way of royalties non-negoitable. Ask for a producers fee in the form of part of the publishing. You will eat alot more, and alot longer off that and it will give you stability and longevity.
Odin OfficialEmcee hey buddy it's currently September, and I know you made your post 4 months ago. I'm currently a undiscovered nobody rapper, my question to you is I plan on making 12 Songs per mixtape, I already have seven mixtapes done I just need to record and purchase the beats. I definitely agree with you about the beats being expensive. So you believe a artist should put together a 3 song EP with the Masters and go from there, that's dope. I just came across a producer who doesn't allow artist to put the song on tunecore or cdbaby for Non exclusive Beats, unless you purchase the exclusive for $300 you can do that
Hey..ODIN the great. how you doing. I'm in a different country. I have some pre made beats available for you, but I thought it's more invested if you tell me what kind of beats you really like for yourself. I want you to be in control of the general sound of preference in your music. I could make you something exclusive (2-3 days after your order/request) and give you all the legal rights and what not, for $230 on beatstars. It will be yours for good, whatever returns you will get further on, I won't ask. For $280, you will get 3 extra melody sequences that fit with the tempo and key of the beat with harmony, making it easier for your melodic crafting, but that also depends on your style. For $580, you will get all of the above, plus the stem, or project file, which is basically the framework of how the music was composed. The main pro of a stem (especially all my stems) is that you can make an infinite number if remixes of that beat/and your song. Imagine making a piano only version of the beat, or a guitar version. whatever you want, faster or slower, lower pitch or higher pitch. A stem offers more creative freedom and results, but with mine, you get a first hand blueprint to examine the common tricks and nuances that I add to melodies when I make beats, in case you also want to be a producer and make your own beats. But that is too soon to say. MEANTIME, you can try the cheaper basic ones at $45. If it also turns out that you don't like the exclusive that I make you, it will just end up as a $45 basic one, but then it will also be open for other people to try it (something most people like you don't like), and they may even use it better (you don't want that). I was just about to write this.He is so right about reading the agreement. I asked this producer does he use samples he said no.Yet, in his agreement it says Im responsible for clearing samples. Crazy, if he doesn't use them then why is that even in his agreement? I don't know, but I don't like it, and it seems fishy so I'm not purchasing it.
@@rachelmeyers8597 Chances are he hasn't even bothered to see what his own terms and conditions for leasing are. "...in his agreement it says Im responsible for clearing samples" That is what all leasing contracts say, whether you sample or not. Or maybe he is scamming you, idk this dude XD, like you said, if you feel like you might get in trouble, just don't buy it.
Another thing I look for is just making sure that I can use the beat on songs that I can stream and can get radio spins with. You'll be surprised by how many producers increase the lease price just so you can do those things. Also take into consideration that those leases usually last a year,so if you paid a $100 for a lease and that producer stays on top of you, expect him to hit you up by next year asking for $100 especially if you profiting good off that song
Mr. So Lowkey If your referring to unlimited usage as in performance, radio spins, and streams that's good. Some producers usually have an amount of profit that u would have to reach before renewing, but even if u do it like that or not that's a good price if it includes the track out,MP3,wav and if it's a good sounding quality beat. Just also be conscious on who your audience is because as a rapper myself I look for quality. And I paid $100+ in beats but only when I know it's good quality

Cheap quality beats ain't good, and good quality beats ain't cheap. If you really want to become a successful rapper, your gonna have to put time and money into it. Releasing songs with beats that you pulled off of RUclips, it doesn't show how "rare" your music is. In my opinion, just pay for the exclusive. Even though it is very expensive in some cases, it's better to have that beat to yourself.

In a perfect world, that would be the ideal situation for those that don't have the spare 1,000+ bucks for "exclusives" and then once you get a decent following and streams and throw away money, you could start outsourcing your beats to other producers and stick to exclusives. There's a give and take to every aspect of this.

Quick question... Say you have a beat leased out and someone comes along and buys the exclusive rights to the beat. Does the person who leased the beat get to keep the track still, or how does that work? BTW. Love what your doing brother, this is tied for my favorite channel with Busy Works Beats, you and Game offer so much knowledge, inspiration, motivation, music theory all that. I love it and i appreciate all you do!!
Thanks for the love! But, to answer your question, the people who previously leased the beat do get to keep the beat for a limited time. The time limit depends on the terms that are included within your particular license. However, The person who bought exclusive rights to the beat will be the last person that will be able to purchase it... Got a question, what happen if a I produce and register a song under free for profit ( no copyright claim on RUclips but ads ) But someone buy the exclusive later, do I still own my music ?
Then why does the rap business exist, this sounds like a dead end street. Every business has a way to start if the person is broke. But a music career seems to not have a realistic way that makes sense.
If someone buys a beat lease and put it on youtube and another day someone buys exclusive rights and put that on youtube as well ,what would happen to the lease guy?? Can any one please explain
You would be grandfathered in to your contract to the terms you agreed upon. Let me know if you have any other questions bro I got you. Also, make sure your contract includes unlimited streaming rights on all major platforms (ie: Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play), and is not tied to free-streaming platforms (ie: Soundcloud, youtube (only if unmonetized), tik tok, etc. and research mechanical rights.

Take a try at the $45 ones though (trust me you won't be totally disappointed, and use headphones please), and let me know. I'm at btendaim@gmail.com. Im so worried that i dont know what my rights for the beat is for example 10000 Online Audio Streams does that mean i can only get 10000 plays on example spotify or soundcloud and if it gets over it gets taken down by the beatmaker.
Curtis King, I have over 300 dollars worth of beats from a producer who has never made a licensing agreement with the beats I've leased but I have all invoices saved plus the beats saved in my email with the producer's BMI #....is this legal to sell my songs to these beats or am I in infringement danger from the actual producer if I sell without any agreements?
I've been researching a lot lately and my understanding is that you need to sign another contract with the producer or it was already stated in previous agreement and they now own a percentage of your earnings from the above streams
Hey..JMORA SIR how you doing. WHAT YOU MEAN I DONT OWN THIS BEAT FOR 25 DOLLARS!? lmao but anyhow, lets say I lease a beat to a guy for $20 and somebody comes along and wants exclusive, can I still sell the exclusive since its technically already leased to someone else?
Sky Jordxn but wouldn't that be an immediate lease violation for the person who purchases the exclusive. I maybe misinturpriting the word exclusive but from my knowledge it means that only the purchaser can use the beat. So if I already have someone distributing that beat on a basic lease I have violated my own agreement the second a do an exclusive sale.
Not necessarily because selling basic leases retains your rights to your beat so it's still owned by you no matter how many leases you may sell. So if you do sell an exclusive beat you're good because you 100% owned the beat the whole time and are now giving ownership to someone else. No sales of that beat can be made afterwards though.
Okay, just to make sure I'm very clear here is a scenario using two customers. So Customer A purchases a basic lease of my beat and publishes and distributes the beat as a song. Then Customer B comes along and wishes to purchase exclusive rights to the beat. As defined in the dictionary "exclusive" means an item or story published or broadcast by only one source. So since the beat has already been published by Customer A I cannot possibly give Customer B exclusive rights because the beat has already been used. This is just basic understanding of contract law and intellectual property law. I have taken classes on it so I'm not just making stuff up, but I'm just curious how that would work. I mean I could put a contract with the beat that states that Exclusive purchase only means that they are the last person I will sell it to, but I can't stop Customer A from using said beat because he technically purchased the rights to use it but as far as being "exclusive" for Customer B it is not because it has already been published..

Lessees, too right, at the very least you need to check the terms of the licensing agreement. You might be shocked at how restrictive they are. Do this before you wite a single word.
What if the beat is free non profit and it says I can use but give credit in the tittle to the producer like (prod.___) what does that do for me what can I do with that beat once I tag them and give them credit for the beat ???
If someone is looking to release commercially should they always negotiate pricing for exclusive rights even if that is more expensive than unlimited use? What if I hold an unlimited use license and someone else holds exclusive? Some producers don’t offer exclusive or unlimited licensing for instant download. (I’ve noticed the more successful ones do this.) Is unlimited lease fine or should I contact the ones that don’t offer exclusive rights and make an offer?

How do you leasing agreement should adapt to music being streamed opposed to bought or downloaded? Instead of 5,000 units sold should we track streams?
i recently buy a rap beat but it is not showing in my fl stuidio, there is no download option in audio clip .help i dont want to loose my hard earned money
Hi I downloaded a beat from RUclips without buying it and I mixed a song using that beat and exported it then the program I’m using fails to find the files. Now I wanna buy the beat and download the audio to RUclips , can I download the audio that been mixed with the unpurchased beat, or the producer going to send me another version of the beat and I should mix the song with that on ? I hope that was clear
Rigo Cortez I ask the Producer and he told me it doesn’t matter what Version you use. However, when I downloaded the song there was another song information in my description !
so my question is… if i buy a standard WAV lease and someone else comes behind me and buys the same beat exclusively.. does that mean i loose all rights? or how does this work?
Simple question. I leased and unlimited Trackout lease. I get it. I don't own the beat however it's unlimited. I don't own the content Id because the producer is the master of the beats product. So what I need to know is when it comes to my actually song recording after that point it's a new song because I've put my intellectual property on it. I don't own the beat but now I own the song correct? So can I copy right the song without copy right infringement?
If u buy a beats exclusive rights. That’s it ? I can do whatever I want with it?? Write a song? Register a song. It blows up ! And I make all royalties off of that purchase?
I only release music on RUclips and SoundCloud wit a producers beat if it says I can use it for non profit which means no monetization cuz free promo is essential for building a fanbase and I never use a beat without purchasing a lease or distributing a song without a lease cuz most independent artists make that mistake and they either get sued or get they song take it down like get what I'm saying and if I use anybody's beat for non profit use I always give credit if you get what I mean Curtiss king
If he leased it as well, that shouldn't be an issue. Are you sure he didn't buy the exclusive? There is all sorts of grey area regarding leasing beats. Did you read the lease agreement in full before buying? How did that situation pan out?
Ok so very late to this video 😂 I gotta couple questions? I just leased a beat and I read the license cause this video, it says it will be in effect for 10 years. If I forget 10 years down the line what will happen? As well I’m only allowed to perform at a festival twice with it. What happens if it somehow occurs more? Will it be a bad lawsuit?
What if someone owns 100% publishing rights.. i want to buy this song outright but it says i still have to shoutout the composer and i dont have any publishing rights..should i stay away from that?

So I tried to lease a beat in BeatStars and it said something like use a different cart for this artist what does that mean? I asked the dude who made the beat and he’s not answering the dang question
Hey man i just wanted to know one thing that's very important. I bought a beat on lease and uploaded my track on spotify , but now one artist has purchased the exclusive rights of the beat ... So now the producer is saying that maybe be the owner can report copyright issue...what should i do now?

You still have it until you contract is up. So you'd have to post before the contract is up. Outside of that, everything falls back into control of the original producer.
I just made a song and when I payed the money for the lease, it took me like an hour to get it.

The scariest thing for me is wondering if the producer is lying about samples.
dont use Always. I can absolutely understand that concern
Curtiss King TV if thé producer is lying about a sample will the producer held responsible for copyright infringements instead of the artist?
@@Mo91100 hopefully not. I would keep any type of online receipt just in case
What do you feel about a $100 lease that include trackouts with unlimited commercial recordings and broadcasts?
Markus Scott excellent points
Appreciate it man

have you made a video talking about licensing/use agreements for producers to add to their beats? like after 5000 sales/plays/downloads what happens? or do producers get royalties if they leased a track and the song blows up? thanks again for making such great stuff man
Cheap quality beats ain't good, and good quality beats ain't cheap.
Choko Kid absolute truth

Hey..Tsukuyomi how you doing.
Take a try at the $45 ones though (trust me you won't be totally disappointed, and use headphones please), and let me know. I'm at btendaim@gmail.com.

In a perfect world, that would be the ideal situation for those that don't have the spare 1,000+ bucks for "exclusives" and then once you get a decent following and streams and throw away money, you could start outsourcing your beats to other producers and stick to exclusives. There's a give and take to every aspect of this.

I don’t know who disliked these videos . But thanks you for your words of wisdom .
Check out a video Curtiss did a while back answering your question here - ruclips.net/video/1eUhTAu-Dlc/видео.html. Hope that helps.

leasing a beat is like buying a video game you get to own and use it but not exclusively
I appreciate the help.
I know you can’t alter/change a beat from a leace but can you cut a beat early? I’m sittin on this song the 3rd verse on the beat gets all crazy I just wanna end it after the second.
Good question
Who buys beats the most (E.g., Artists, studios, labels, etc.)?
All of them!! There's a market for every of them 😉
Assume :- I lease a beat... whatever $50, 60, 100, 150 option.
Who will OWN the MASTER of the song THAT I WILL MAKE (solo artist and songwriter) with the said "leased" beat. Since legends like Russ and late great Nipsey Hussle emphasize so much on "owning your masters". That's the only question I wanna know in the whole licensing terms subject.
What if i exceed the views that was written on the contract the beatmaker made? What would happen? What should I do?
Theres always the option to update your lease if needed
Can a leased beat be streamed on Apple Music, Spotify ETC.??
It depends on the license, some give you a certain amount of available streams, some give you unlimited streams.
Real talk
you said you could sell up to 5,000 units if you buy a certain amount of rights. who do you sell your units too, and how do you sell the units?
Bro you’re analogies on point lol
What about producers leasing them to you but locking them with claims and you cant even upload song to distributors?
Exactly. You record over it. Upload and then get a copyright infringement
@@ariesdelfuego yea just had that happen and i spent alot on track even got a major feature on it.

I got a tagless free for profit beat for you rappers🤗. I am going to release more free for profit beats this Christmas.⭐️
Got a question, what happen if a I produce and register a song under free for profit ( no copyright claim on RUclips but ads )
But someone buy the exclusive later, do I still own my music ?
Artists should also understand the splits with royalties and such. Read that contract
Publishing rights are a big thing and people forget about that stuff
This was good information to know
Then why does the rap business exist, this sounds like a dead end street.
@@ProducedByStatus thanks a lot for the information 🙏🏻
If a sell a exclusive beat ,will i be still eligible for copyright claims on the ones who r using it illegally??
@@siddhantsohal4642 The producer is the one eligible for copy right claims but only for the beat. So anything you add to the beat (vocals and what not) at the end of the day, worst case scenario is, you will be making money off of what you guys decide to split in and out of court.
Message my email producersatus@gmail.com if you have any other questions or if you need $30 mix/ master on any track I'm offering this price all the next two months.
I leased a beat. Recorded in Logic. Then uploaded to RUclips. It was flagged for copyright
How and why did that happen
Was it on youtube?
Do you have to buy it exclusively to post it to Spotify?
When recording in the studio will the engineers need the track stems? I see all these fire beats I want but most stem leases or unlimited beats are high up there in price. $100+. I just want to get my music out at a professional level and just want to know what most artist do. Any help???

Im so worried that i dont know what my rights for the beat is for example 10000 Online Audio Streams does that mean i can only get 10000 plays on example spotify or soundcloud and if it gets over it gets taken down by the beatmaker.
Curtis King, I have over 300 dollars worth of beats from a producer who has never made a licensing agreement with the beats I've leased but I have all invoices saved plus the beats saved in my email with the producer's BMI #....is this legal to sell my songs to these beats or am I in infringement danger from the actual producer if I sell without any agreements?
i buy a premium lease on REDMOSK does that mean that beat is mine?
Some producers say your song can only have a certain amount of streams. What happens when you pass that limit??
Yah i also wanna know
I've been researching a lot lately and my understanding is that you need to sign another contract with the producer or it was already stated in previous agreement and they now own a percentage of your earnings from the above streams
Right like what if the song is a hit

A stem offers more creative freedom and results, but with mine, you get a first hand blueprint to examine the common tricks and nuances that I add to melodies when I make beats, in case you also want to be a producer and make your own beats. But that is too soon to say.
MEANTIME, you can try the cheaper basic ones at $45. If it also turns out that you don't like the exclusive that I make you, it will just end up as a $45 basic one, but then it will also be open for other people to try it (something most people like you don't like), and they may even use it better (you don't want that).
Take a try at the $45 ones though (trust me you won't be totally disappointed, and use headphones please), and let me know. I'm at btendaim@gmail.com.

What about when they literally title the song “free beat”?
speaking the truth man
I need beats for my fitness workouts. This, by far has been the most stressful part of starting this business.
Benddee, hi
Hey.. bendee. Good luck with starting the business. how you doing.
JP Productions yeah because it's a basic lease
Sky Jordxn but wouldn't that be an immediate lease violation for the person who purchases the exclusive. I maybe misinturpriting the word exclusive but from my knowledge it means that only the purchaser can use the beat. So if I already have someone distributing that beat on a basic lease I have violated my own agreement the second a do an exclusive sale.
JP Productions hahaha
This was so informative and the jokes were funny as hell 👌🏼🙏🏼

What do you feel about a $100 lease that include trackouts with unlimited commercial recordings and broadcasts?
So I basically can’t use a free beat on a free mixtape????
I mean, for some producers they state that the beat is free use, but only under the conditions that you credit them and aren't making money off it.
I believe your free to post it on RUclips and Soundcloud but for No profit
I’m selling quality beats if you are interested, contact me on Instagram @hxnnid_

Shot out to The King!!
Cool Typhoon what's good my friend?! Hope all is well
Always bless King, big ups on the Airbit collabo!! Well deserved.
if i buy a lease for a beat, can i put it on apple music and spotify and make music from it?
i recently buy a rap beat but it is not showing in my fl stuidio, there is no download option in audio clip .help i dont want to loose my hard earned money
Hey what's up.. question do u get a proof of purchase like a receipt to show that you purchase the beat..
Ay BB this is what I want to know too
Rigo Cortez I ask the Producer and he told me it doesn’t matter what Version you use. However, when I downloaded the song there was another song information in my description !
Good Knowledge 💯
I love how the video ends on 808
so my question is… if i buy a standard WAV lease and someone else comes behind me and buys the same beat exclusively.. does that mean i loose all rights? or how does this work?
Simple question. I leased and unlimited Trackout lease. I get it. I don't own the beat however it's unlimited. I don't own the content Id because the producer is the master of the beats product. So what I need to know is when it comes to my actually song recording after that point it's a new song because I've put my intellectual property on it. I don't own the beat but now I own the song correct? So can I copy right the song without copy right infringement?
If u buy a beats exclusive rights. That’s it ? I can do whatever I want with it?? Write a song? Register a song. It blows up ! And I make all royalties off of that purchase?
I only release music on RUclips and SoundCloud wit a producers beat if it says I can use it for non profit which means no monetization
cuz free promo is essential for building a fanbase and I never use a beat without purchasing a lease or distributing a song without a lease cuz most independent artists make that mistake and they either get sued or get they song take it down like get what I'm saying and if I use anybody's beat for non profit use I always give credit if you get what I mean Curtiss king
What about leasing a beat that has uncleared samples
What does it means when a proudcer said "cannot use monetize video streams" in the leasing?
i recently leased a beat and put it on Soundcloud, but it got taken down because some other kid leased it as well... what do I do? Do I dispute it?
If he leased it as well, that shouldn't be an issue. Are you sure he didn't buy the exclusive? There is all sorts of grey area regarding leasing beats. Did you read the lease agreement in full before buying? How did that situation pan out?
so if i have a buyer (im a producer) what do i send him if he wants to buy one of my beats do i send him the file or ??
another great video!thx
Grabbeats TV thank you for watching!

So now the producer is saying that maybe be the owner can report copyright issue...what should i do now?
take down the song on rap on another beat, perhaps buy exclusive rights on the next one so it does not happen again.
You still have rights. You are still allowed to use the beat so long as you stay within that beat's lease agreement.
What's up AKSHAY

You still have it until you contract is up. So you'd have to post before the contract is up. Outside of that, everything falls back into control of the original producer.
what if you put out an EP on soundcloud for no money like you dont plan to make profit from it
can you tell me what do you do after you buy the beat if its mp3 ,waw, or stems because i dont understand this topic well
