the song that made me a fan. “won’t soul music change? now that our souls have turned strange” is just so fucking good. thankfully, there was plenty more where that came from. rip david
David- Hearing you perform again was a breath of air so fresh and so sad , that during some listens of Purple Mountains, I just Laid down in the Dirt. I know we are real real real real real real real....I know it, I'm pleading for it to be true
Luckily you can add Smog, Lou Reed, Neil Young, David Bowie, Iggy Pop and every punk singer to this exalted list I’ll take these uebermensch over any lame ass American Idol pop singer any day
At first I was like, whoa this live "We Are Real" is 10 minutes long? Then I realized that Dave Berman was gonna tell the most long-winded, but surprisingly poignant story I've heard in a while. Kind of a plus I guess. Either way, one of my all time favorites - "realizing is how it feels inside when it happens to you."
just heard a taste of this on FSTV Democracy Now! in between discussion about Kashmire (~made me think to say "Hi" to Shahid on the other side as well)...time and space are converging today for me...Shout-out to the Right To Symbolically Refuse Things, to the Right to say NO, or Yes, to the Right to make Choices and Change. We really are never gonna get it done...Thanks Again David for being so kind, RIP My Dear Friend.
Mr. Berman sounds absolutely awful but then again I didn't love Silver Jews because Dave Berman could carry a tune. And at least watching this video I didn't get the uncomfortable feeling that things were going to unravel at any second as I did when I saw the band live in 2006. "We Are Real" is one of my favorite songs ever and "American Water" one of the greatest albums ever. That's not an exaggeration.

all my favorite singers couldn't sing
all my favorites CAN, they just aren't sanctioned by "squares"!
They COULD sing. Everyone and everything can sing. Even the rocks cry out.
You like Daniel Johnston as well
Luckily you can add Smog, Lou Reed, Neil Young, David Bowie, Iggy Pop and every punk singer to this exalted list I’ll take these uebermensch over any lame ass American Idol pop singer any day
I love this story, Rest in Peace D.C. You are truly missed.

A hair over 3 and a half minutes is "long-winded"... It's the highlight of the video for me!

The story at the start is hilarious and extremely relatable lmao

This band is so underrated. Always been a pavement fan since day one and I love this side project
i mean it's not really a side project. and Berman definitely didn't want it considered that.
I dont think they were underrated, they got as much attention as they deserved and perhaps a bit more
The Silver Jews actually came before pavement.
Do you see anybody from Pavement here?
good one man haven't heard that one in a while
