I used to own an X-50 from 2009 till' about 2015. I just randomly searched for it and I was quite surprised to find not even a 1 week old review for it! :D It's very light, compact, and for the price, a really powerful synth with great sounds! Nice memories :)
"all keyboards should have these handles" he says, and I am listening! Considering I build my own keyboards that is lol! Yep the X50 came out at the same time as it's little brother the Micro-X. I had the Micro-X. They both have the same sounds and features with the Micro- X being only 25 keys, with a red backlit LCD. I like the X-50 better with more keys and a light blue back lit LCD instead. And of course, the handles! Can't forget those!
Yes! Keyboards are very under-engineered in my opinion. I'll be doing a new 'Gearfacts' keyboard design video soon (the old ones are very dated and I've had more ideas since then)
Thanks for the sound demo. Using this keyboard in a multi keyboard setup. I really like the harmonica , strings and the best part is you can modify the sounds for the better and been able to save the changes.
I really love this synth, and those handles........... maybe it's an interesting touchy feely thing..........😂 I have one of those and it's little brother the Micro X. From memory I think that the Micro X has different sounds or arps, backings etc, more dance/techno? Unfortunately as all my synth gear away in storage still, I do miss them. Bought myself a Modal Skulpt Synth as a little compensation, fun thing, as it was very cheap ( £149 ). Thanks for reminding me what I'm missing........👍 PS. Not sure if it's still available but there was a software application, editing thing you could download.
@David M - Your description of the Micro X as 'little brother' makes sense. Same DNA, i.e., Triton based engine. However, while they do share a lot of presets, there are some that are unique to each. If I could get decent text downloads of both lists, I'd drop them into Excel to easily extract the differences. And yes, they both use the same editor app.
This thing sounds pretty good. It would be nice if you reviews discussed the synth architecture, eg number of oscillators, waveforms, filter and envelopes and also whether there are onboard fx. Cheers Geoff
Thanks Geoff, and yep i hear what you're saying. Usually I don't get long enough with an instrument to get into that kind of detail, but in the case of the X50 I've got more time and might follow up with another vid. Cheers :)
@@werkingdadrecords Hi. My good old X50 is getting tired, so i looked for its replacement from korg. I specifically wanted the dual arps again. The KromeEX control is laid out, and operates basically the same as the X50. I miss some of the x50 patches though. I made a video on my other channel with the krome controlling the x50, then use sustain pedal and work the tweak knobs on the x50. i was mangling one of the arps realtime ruclips.net/video/-Zb2FBkdlf0/видео.html
I bought one of these from a friend of a friend who was offloading some insturments. Its a cool machine but i dont know much about unlocking the functionality of it, i cant find many comprehensive guides on youtube for it. Does anyone know of any?
My X50 has decided to no longer turn on but it was a really solid first synth. Hoping it's just a bad power supply and not something more serious. If it's good enough for Dirty Loops to use one all the time it's more than good enough for me. Lol
I'm looking for a versatile keyboard to mess around with. Is this a good option for someone starting out in composing/producing/arranging/just plain old school work? Do I need to purchase a program in order to play it, or am I able to just turn it on and mess around?
Well I think it's probably more professional than what is needed by most students but hey if there's one selling in your area for a good price then I'm sure you won't be disappointed! You don't need any software, it's completely self-driven.
You can find them used pretty cheap if you keep your eyes on local listings or eBay, and they'll cover most sounds you'd want from a versatile keyboard. The only real benefit to a computer is that you can use Korg's software to edit patches but you can do that through the menus on the synth nearly as easily.
I'm thinking about geting one of these, and I have done alot of research, and like the sounds, but I have not found the answer to one of my questions. does the korg X50 have a touch screen?
@@doordedeur no, the krome is the successor. kross does not have dual arpeggiators. read the manuals of all 3. i went through this when replacing my x-50 with a new main board. i ended up with a krome.
@@jjrusy7438 The Krome is the successor to the M50, the Kross is the successor to the X-50. It can happen that a successor looses some functions from its predecessor.
@@doordedeur you can say anything you want. compare the features. the kross is a blend of workstation and performance with things like half of the electribe stuff in it . the krome is exactly like the x-50 with some kronos features. i own them both. kross has no 4 tweak knobs, krome does. i mentioned the dual arps. I was mislead into buying this keyboard 1. The power cord is complete trash and i lose my projects at any moment, this is a problem with each and every korg x50 made. 2. The spinning navigator control doesn't function properly when trying to select sounds and other things. 3. The Sounds are bare minimum quality. 4. The Plugin editor for DAWS has some issues 5. Installing this via usb and installation files is a pain in the ass This might be the worst keyboard i could have ever purchased and it was my only keyboard ever purchased. $500 retail gone down the drain

It really is!
it was derived from the triton
@a mandelli - Minus the sequencer which prevents the x50 and Micro-X from being classified as workstations.

download the pdf manual from korg. the dual arpeggiators are really special. it has 8 combi layers like a workstation too. it's a beast.
@@jjrusy7438 I was wondering if the arpeggiators on this unit were some of the best out there? What other synths have arps to match?

Might just be the fuse? Power supply problems, although they seem serious, are usually the easiest to fix :)
The power supply contact back on it easily break on the x50. It should be a fairly easy soldering job to fix it in that case.
the power jack legs break easily, there is a youtube video on how to add a new jack socket, just fixed mine this way
Fix!!!!
What do you think about the keybed?
Adequate. It didn't forge a place in my memory so I'm sure it was nothing unusual either way :)

Sadly no

Pretty much all the same presets as the Micro X?? Just more octave range and pitch & mod wheels instead of the joystick.
on an unrelated note, where is that place you are filming that has all those flat roof buildings? I like it. Looks like Puerto Rico a bit.
It would have been around Canberra, Australia (where I live now)

Superb. I don't think any audience would be able to tell the difference between the X50 and the real thing.
