Great idea. Thanks for sharing. I looked into getting the divider from Yeti, but with taxes, duties and shipping, I was looking at over $70! Your video inspired me to make my own. I bought a Faber Classic Series 10 x 14 white plastic cutting board for $7. Luckily, it only required one cut along the short, non-handled edge (with circular saw) and some sanding of three of the four edges. Fits like a glove and looks OEM! Thanks again for the idea!
a great tip for this; you can smooth the edges by using a small torch (made for electrical connections) to lightly melt the edge smooth. it will make it look factory! I realized this trimming my atv fenders for larger tires and it was amazing!
It's definitely nice...great work! Though, there is some irony in buying the most expensive cooler on the market, and then penny pinching over about 15 dollars to make a divider. :)
Thanks Josh. The cooler was actually a gift from my brother. I like to build things and don't mind saving money so I decided to build the divider. The dividers for the larger coolers get pretty expensive (up to $150) so the bigger the cooler, the more you could save.
speaking of melting, do you think that maybe using a heat gun to "soften" the edges would have worked? you would of course, have to be careful not to warp or deflect the original shape.
Thanks! It's possible that a heat gun may work. It would be worth a shot. You will probably still have to remove some material but the heat fun might make it easier to smooth out the edges.
I’m working on the same kind of project due to your video thank you , but what did you used to file down the sides to make them more narrow. I have a grinder and a metal file. At my disposal. ??💕 Great video
I used a metal file to smooth the edges I believe. You could try cutting with a hacksaw or just the hacksaw blade and gloves. The plastic will probably melt onto the grinder wheel.
solid fit and have enjoyed your videos. i personally would drill holes in the cutting board to allow what water that does happen to accumulate to be able to move freely back and forth between each of the divisions. keep that cold water equalized will keep the contents happy. just my thoughts on the divider.
Was just wondering how many man hours you had invested in making one of these??? I have two yeti coolers and want to make myself dividers for each if they aren't to time consuming... Just trying to get an idea on if it was worth it to make your own or if they time invested plus cost of materials warrants just going out and purchasing a pre made one. Love your videos they are really helpful!
Austin Wilson Thanks Austin! It's been a while since I built this divider but I don't remember it taking very long. Maybe an hour or hour and a half to build it. I think this is the sort of project where the first one takes longer but after you figure it out, it's not bad. This is for a small Yeti so it might not make as much sense to build one for a larger model. I haven't priced the larger dividers though.
Nice post. Your divider looks just like the one Yeti makes too. You might consider designing and building intersecting dividers for the Yeti 65. The 65 presently has length and width dividers, but nothing that provides quartered sections. Someone needs make use of that possibility with a simple, reliable design.
38503frank Hey Frank! Thanks for the comment. I would build intersecting dividers for a 65 but I don't own a 65.... It should be simple though. One divider side would have a slit cut in the middle, coming up half way from the bottom of the dividing board. The other board would have a slit cut in the middle, coming down half way from the top. That would let them be fitted together at 90 degrees from each other and inserted into the cooler. It's a little tough to explain in writing but I think it would be pretty simple to build. Thanks for watching!!!
God's Country Nice to hear from you. Good idea, although that sounds a little easier said than done. From the looks of your garage you must be pretty adept at making things. If you could make maybe 20 or 30 quarter dividers at a time I bet you could pay for a yeti 65 pretty fast selling them on you tube, ebay, the net, etc. Yeti is getting a pretty penny for just the single dividers. Some people don't have the skill or equipment, or, the time to make their own. Too, there are WAG's who will buy for their guys, etc. Take care, I'll be watching.
Great vid btw. Keeping it simple. My wife said shes getting me one soon so im trying to penny pinch...but have good accessories. Now trying to find the hardest chain to cut for theft prevention!
Everyone is free to do whatever they choose. If you have the tools already, its a fun project that saves a little money. The larger dividers from Yeti cost over $150. If you don't have the tools, feel free to buy the Yeti part.
Have you thought about making a cross divider, like in a t shape. That would be really cool and open up more things you could do with it in organization ways. Good luck. Keep making videos there good
+bryan lequerique Hi Bryan! Thanks for the compliment! I have thought of a crossing divider but I don't own any Yetis that are big enough to need that. It shouldn't be that hard to build though. If I ever do build one I'll be sure to do a video.
I'm still trying to understand the purpose of the divider. It's not water tight, so food is not really separate from cooler water, nor visa versa. So, what use does it actually serve? Maybe just tell if you're out of beer by checking half the cooler instead of the whole cooler?
You can keep separate drinks in each side if you want. If you want to have one side dry and one side wet, you could seal the divider with silicone or something similar. I think it just depends on what you want to use your cooler for.
The board fits in the side cracks tightly. If you made the bottom fit tightly also, I think silicone would have a good chance of sealing it. It might still get condensation on the other side though.
yeah I cant see spending the money one of these yeti coolers I have been trying to find a used one for a good price with no luck so far. but I will get one eventual but not at the new price. I seen a few on craigslist for 300.00 today but that is still out of my price range. am thinking if i can get one cheap enough it will pay for its self in the ice that i will not have to buy. after i do get one this mod will come in handy thanks for sharing
iwantosavemoney Thanks IWTSM. I agree with you that these are expensive. I probably wouldn't have this one except that it was a gift from my brother. Other than that, they are a real quality product. A buddy of mine just bought another one and he expects it to pay for itself in less ice use. He's a contractor and it will get used a lot. Thanks for watching!
If you want a roto molded cooler that looks just the Yeti...get an RTIC while you can. Yeti is suing them and the design will soon be changing. I have both the RTIC and the Yeti....very similar for half the price
+Lawrence Stevens And that's fine! No one is forcing you to build this. The smallest dividers are $25+$5shipping/tax but the large ones go up to $150. The point of the video is to show that you can build them fairly easily.
Abraham T Thanks for the comment AT! I'm really sorry but I just don't have the time to build these for people. I hardly have the time to do my own projects.... Sorry about that.
I could understand your argument on the smaller coolers where the dividers cost $25, but what about the larger coolers that have dividers that can cost up to $170? A little work/time investment could save alot of money there. Plus some people just enjoy building things.
Yes you can easily buy them from Yeti. The Yeti divider for this cooler is $25 so not a massive savings but the larger dividers can cost over $150. If you like projects, try building one. If not, buy it from Yeti.
if you spend 200, 300$ bucks for most expensive cooler why are you trying to save 10 bucks on divider????? I don't own yeti cooler , just don't get your logic behind it, it is like own Ferrari and buy cheapest tires from Walmart!!!!
Rafal Ciemski RafalC The most important reason is that I like projects where I can build things IF I can save money and have the finished product be equal or better to the purchasable part. In this case the divider works exactly the same as a Yeti brand divider would so your Ferrari and Walmart comment doesn't really make sense. The Yeti dividers are $25 so between that and $5 tax/shipping, I saved around $20. On top of all that, this cooler was a gift to me. I'm not sure that I would have spent $350 on a cooler but I do really enjoy using it. Thanks for watching my video.
@@GodsCountry I'll confirm to you in the next week or so when I get my Rtic cooler. From the looks of it the dividers look the same. I'll go and test it on the Yeti and vice versa.

I like the color I picked out for my divider it personalized is my Yeti.
Great idea! If one has access to a band saw, I think it would go much smoother with alot less filing etc.
clever ! I agree about saving $$. you can spend the $ saved on more beer!
Very true!
And you also then have a cutting board!
Peter McGill Yeah! Multipurpose.
your garage/man laboratory a pretty sweet man, thanks for the post

Blake Hall Thanks Blake! The divider doesn't seal perfectly so the water does move from one side to the other
right on. just my online observation. totally different in the workshop.

A sanding block with sandpaper also works great.
Thanks for the tip Cameron!
Totally thought you were reaching for the torch when you said air grinder. lol
Bandsaw and belt sander...doneski!

good job fella & a short, concise video.
Thanks

I spent $250 in a saw saw and dremel to make to not pay $25 on a divider. Thanks for the tip!

YES!!!!
Hey man, the Yeti are just trying ensure they can make it through the winter.
I'm not really sure what you're saying but thanks for the comment.

I have a 105 and finding it hard to find a cutting board that fits the short side... Probably going to have to pay the $35
I haven't shopped for different size cutting boards so I'm not sure what's available.
Great Idea
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Great job... thanks for sharing!
Thanks Howie!!!
Awesome!!!! I have a 50 and I can’t find a Yeti divider. Sheesh!

Hahaha! True! Have fun with it! Thanks for your comment
Hey, could you post the dimensions you used? Thanks!
I'm sorry Anthony but this was a long time ago and I do not have any dimensions. I made a template from the cooler vs using dimensions.
@@GodsCountry no worries. I got bored and decided to give it a whirl. If anyone else asks I used 33cm across the top, 30.4cm bottom, and 34cm high.
Why not just use a table saw?
Table saw should work great. I didn't have access to one in this shop. It wasn't worth it to travel to get to the table saw.
Great Idea! Thanks!
Thanks for watching Christina!
This is amazing
Thanks Nathaniel!
if there's a will there will always be a cheaper way!
I'd rather spend the 25 bucks!
+Lawrence Stevens And that's fine! No one is forcing you to build this. The smallest dividers are $25+$5shipping/tax but the large ones go up to $150. The point of the video is to show that you can build them fairly easily.

Good stuff!
Bryan Absher Thanks Bryan!
Would you be willing to build one for me?
Abraham T Thanks for the comment AT! I'm really sorry but I just don't have the time to build these for people. I hardly have the time to do my own projects.... Sorry about that.

You've got money to waste on a yeti, but not the divider???
This cooler was a gift but even if it wasn't, whats wrong with saving a little money? Especially if you like DIY projects.
Freakin genius!👍👍
Thank you!!!

The made at home solution probably cost more money…
Haha…
This cost $8 to build. Yeti dividers are $25-$50. Nothing wrong with saving a little money.
@@GodsCountry I agree, but I’m also talking about the tools needed, etc. It looks good though.
I'm just buying a divider for 24.99 on amazon
Sounds good. Go for it.
I'm sure you can use an Rtic divider for like $8-10
Have you confirmed that a Rtic divider will work in a Yeti cooler?
